Motherf**ker I'm Broke (obscure 50s music)

- Plucked out of vinyl obscurity and restored via ai music magic comes this obscure late 1950s song from Errol Pennywhistle.
The late 1950s weren’t kind to Doo Wop upstart Errol Pennywhistle. I’m Broke, his first vinyl record, never saw store shelves, instead being sent “accidentally” to a local landfill. “I spent days diggin’ every copy I could outta that garbage palace,” Errol stated in his statement to the local PD after being arrested for trespassing and theft. “How can you be arrested for takin' your own sh*t?” It would be months until Pennywhistle was back on the streets with records in hand, peddling the one by one from his cardboard box on street corners around Detroit. But like so many relationships, what started with pity eventually grew into a little something more. Pennywhistle developed a cult following, allowing him the opportunity to purchase more studio time from a reluctant Motown Records, who wouldn’t voluntarily back him until after his third release.

"Chuck! Chuck, it's Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this!”
Jeez, I've heard that b4
I miss BTTF :(
Well played, Sir
I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But.... your kids are gonna love it.
😂😂😂😂😂
The next time someone ask me to hang out...
For real. They had better be buying. Shit, I’m over here with coupons.
I remember my beautiful mother in the early 60's singing every word to this song. I was lucky to have such a young mom. We liked all the same music. Miss you, Mama.
I was so lucky to have your young mom too.
@@user-kv2vc3is8h Dad ?
I remember back in 1956 playing this on the jukebox at the diner where I met my wife. Now I'm in a nursing home that smells like poop because my kids took my money and I'm singing this song once again.
It smells fine, love you dad
Pizza rolls weren't invited until 1968. So how was he singing about expired pizza rolls 10 years before they were thought of?
He's so broke he might have actually broke the space-time continuum @@danstacks414
@@danstacks414That’s what being broke does to a man. 😂
@@brandoncastro6731 🤣🤣🤣
"You shouldn't smoke" part was so wholesome❤
I love Errol Pennywhistle! Saw him at the Cow Palace in 57.
@@BARDAKABRAMA I can't believe it myself.
I couldn't get in...MFer, I WAS BROKE.
You seen a fictional singer?

Been singing this song since the 2008 Great Recession.
2008 wasn't even a real recession.. not "great" like 1929.. it was nothing.
Wait until the next one 😎
@@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy That's why it was a recession and not a depression
"and it may not be the life for you, but I'm free, no one to answer to.
Just kidding, I'm fucking screwed"
I literally laughed so hard I almost began to choke
The AI has bars...
Ironically this song went platinum and made him a billion dollars.
i remember my grandfather pulling his old records down and pulling this beat up record out and playing this forgotten hit for me when i was a small lade. A classic.
"... and my suits are NOT bespoke ..."
Very relatable how most people feel.
I'm broke as a joke. 😞
And I ain’t got a nickel for a coke🎶
When he said "can't afford a can of coke" i felt that 😔
Right there with ya homie
Coke is expensive as hell now. I don't see how anybody can afford it!
No caffeine nope
I was raised on the classics like this one
One of his bests, I remember visiting the landfill and his record were still found to this day!
The song of my people.
Thank you for this. My Dad used to sing this everytime I wanted a toy. He died in 2016. 🙏
Thank you for the memories.
great song! my father showed me this when I was in my teens and been rocking it ever since
This is my theme song.
Damn! I just saw Errol dumpster diving just the other day.
I've been singing this for the last three years.
Everyone's worried about my safety... lol
True story: Errol Pennywhistle went to his local 7-11 store in 1961, and bought a few scratch off tickets, and he ended up winning 50000 dollars. Later on that year, a good friend told him about investing, and he invested 10k into a fledgling startup company called Amazon, and the rest as they say is history. BTW, Errol is not broke anymore.
That man...what an inspiration! 🥲
Amazing didn’t start up til over 30 years later.
@@mickeyjanowski9457 that's how much he believed in amazon
@@mickeyjanowski9457 and scratch lotter didn't start until 1985

Ah yes, we used to play this song over and over at the church summer get togethers.
The love the background singers, no caffeine nope.
(You shouldn't smoke!)
Cuz mfer you broke?
Grandad was notoriously racist in his day, but he always had a soft spot for Mr. Pennywhistle’s records. I like to think he helped make Grandad a better person with his inspiring music.
I'm going to send this song to my Landlord and the electric company. 🤣😭
Ngl I’m genuinely streaming this on Spotify 😭
My grandma used to listen to this song while dancing and me and my sister lunch from food she found from dumpster diving.
Brought back so many memories for me ❤❤❤
Oh god I hope it wasn’t the same dumpster Fatty Charles used…
seriously, either the AI and/or the people directing it are getting better. fast. this is absolutely killer and I would really like to know exactly how these songs are being made because it's incredible.
pretty much all these tunes are written by an actual human, and then parts of it are generated with vocaloids/synths, and at least one real, live, human involved. Various modern, AI-powered vocaloids are being developed and the tech is pretty awesome/terrifying. But somewhere in these fucking hilarious tunes there lays a compositional genius generating these under some level of (intentional) obscurity.
"And it may not be the life for you, but im free, no one to answer to"
"Just kiddin'. Im fuckin' screwed!"
Isn't that the truth?
Yup.
Being broke ain't a joke!
Beats all the music being played now.
Music like this should really come back!
in the 50's this was the song to play every christmas morning!
Lies
🤣🤣the Weeknd got Nuthin on these classics 🤣🤣
'I guess I'll swim because I can't afford no plane' 😆
😄This reminds me of the Ray Charles song, 'Busted'.
Make this the national anthem!

OMG. You got me laughing in my cubicle man.
Rip to him
BRAVO! I dont think i have EVER laughed as hard as i just did! this is the funniest thing ive ever heard in my life thank you!😆
Should make more records like this.
The rhyming scheme of the verses is unironically so cool.
0% bespoke
0% Coke
0% smoke
100% broke
2024 American Theme Song now. 😂
What's the problem, Errol? Just arrange some job interviews, put on your suit and see what happens.
No, wait . . .
I just came to found this I like it never ever thought I find something so good like this
"Everybody I know worries about my safety" is the best line
Errols got a few blowies in his suit!
And they say the music in the 50s , 60s and 70s were Innocent. This made me laugh my lungs out.
The only music that i can relate to
warning: do not listen to this song while drive. your ass will crash cause you're laughing so hard.
I hope your med-bill was low, cuz.. you know
Fun fact: This is a cover of an obscure Sam Cooke song.
I would love to see a video of somebody's grandparents dancing to this.
listening to this song I remember how my parents left me locked in the car on a hot August day , for hours. Back in 1935,
Nice backstory.
Best AI generated song yet‼️
Gold! Pure Gold! And true! Excuse me, is that the FCC I see. I'm Screwed!
This was in A Bronx Tale
Why is everyone so mad about it being restored with AI? It’s not like it was WRITTEN by AI, it was made by a person, it’s just the distortion and scuffs on the vinyl that were edited out by the AI. (To my knowledge)
Angry furries on Twitter convinced everyone AI is the devil because they’re worried they’ll lose their commission money.
Never mind the fact that AI is fine when it does their assignments for them.
@@calebm9000"ai took my job motherfucker I'M BROKE!!"
This is not restored. It's part of the joke. If he's like Obscurest Vinyl the lyrics are man made (new) the music and vocals are AI generated (Very specific instructions, many different takes/parts stitched together)
I love it.
Big love 😂
It's funny but also relatable
Love it I love it I love it I love it... hahahaha 😂!!!!!!!!
I sing this song to myself every two weeks after looking at my paycheck
This was a big hit when I was a kid. Great to hear it again!
Literally me
No way AI came up with the lyrics and the melody .. no way
They cut this from Song of the South, that Disney bloke gotta lot to answer for!
Dedicated to Antonio Brown
I don't think Coke came in cans back in the 50s.
Hes so broke he created a time paradox
There weren't pizza rolls, either. Frankly those kind of details bug me, cuz it ruins the illusion.
Unless it’s 50’s style but actually from later.
@@jarcuadanantus28 Yeah like 1980s Billy Joel
They actually first began using cans in 1960, believe it or not.
I’d like to reloop the main verse & put it on my voicemail 😅
This was was the inspiration for Nirvana's 'Something In The Way'.
Ai is crazy
Can you add this to Amazon Music and Spotify? I will deadass add this to my oldies playlist
It's now available on most services, including Spotify and Amazon.

Why do you ask that? Haven’t heard of Errol Pennywhistle? He has 7 Grammys to his name.
I jam this number every payday when bill collectors come calling.
Sounds like Sammy Davis Junior.
