good video, Im doing this to my 2019 Abarth in a couple weeks. The covers are going to get wrapped factory color instead of paint- cheaper and easier. Most conversions I see have LED's with resistors put in the pig tail harness, your method looks easier. If anyone is looking for these parts with a plug and play harness Speedmotive sells the entire kit for $519. otherwise you can purchase everything off ebay for around $300 or so and do it yourself.
Hey good job. Hello from GB 🇬🇧👍🏻. Since I’ve watched your video I’ve ordered these lights for my fiat 500, because I didn’t know you could get standard bulb versions. LED’s are a nightmare and lots of resisters involved. Plus reflectors and reverse I’ll sort out to 👍🏻. Cheers for clear info. I’ll keep watching
I think I got an explanation for the electric - connection issues some of you guys are facing. In Europe and UK, the tail lights (old design)until 2015 have the following: Reverse light on the LEFT. Fog (red) light on the RIGHT. In the US of A both old design tail lights have a reverse light... So, if one day I decide to do the conversion to the 2016 new design - in the UK - I will post a video.
@@theevolvingworld Rats! I wanted a 2" receiver for my luggage carrier/bike rack and thats what I thought you had. I know I can use 2" to 1.25" adapter, but thats not ideal. Enjoying your mods-keep them coming !

The finish will be better, it doesn’t cost that much more, plus you spare your time and health. -The lights doesn’t need to be original, I can find them for under 130$ Thank you for making the video, and sharing how you did. The red cable from plug goes direct with a splice to the red cable from the LED...so what is the problem? Please any help! :(
Thanks pepper for taking on the project. Many will not even try. I will point out a couple of things: first, the video is showing the left side, the right side wiring colors are different. Second, "canbus" LED bulbs aren't necessarily going to work on this car. To fix: I would unplug the new right side assembly completely & plug in the old right side assembly, see if that fixes the left. If so, then the right wiring needs to be re-wired correctly. If the backup lights still don't work, then try using the factory incandescent bulbs first. They should work, indicating the wiring is good. Reinstall each LED backup bulb just on the left side first, it should work, if not then pull out turn 1/2 turn and re-install for correct polarity. Once the left side is completely working then proceed to get the new right side assembly to match. If the backup lights stop working with the new LED bulb installed on the right side, then it's the bulbs. You will need to go back to incandescent bulbs, add high wattage LED bulbs, or add more LED bulbs (notice in the video, there is a 3rd single center backup light wired on the same circuit). Hope this helps & Don't give up!

Sorry now that i have a second look, (video distorts color) the signals are colored, Also are you planning to put led bulbs in, I would think they would conserve a bit more energy.
We're back from 28 days in Hawaii. Yes, we like & use amber for all turn signals. No, no plans to do LED on this CANbus equipped car, other than what has already been done.
Thanks. They are NOT designed to fit U.S. cars. Either way, the reverse light is still separate in the bumper for E.U. cars & would require that modified in some way or for the matching rear bumper to be fitted with lights & reflectors.
Yes, since the reverse is added at the turn signal lenses location, it was the easiest to wire using the splice connectors to the harness. All the others were soldered from harness wire directly to the steel bars that hold the bulbs in.
Wait so what happens if you go in reverse while having a turn signal on? Will anything break or will it just not work? I'm thinking of worse case scenarios here.
I don't know what crazy person would use the turn signals while reversing. But, FYI they would simply both come on & blend together. Kind of a amber flashing white light.
Very nice, looks great and the reverse set up is brighter. Any plans on back up camera or a stereo swap? I seen someone had a dual din swap that moved the a/c vents to the side(still functional direction). Love my 500e, the lease return buy is a no brainer.
They do/did. You're a few years late to the party to get one though. there is a European company that makes converted lamps ready to go, but it makes the upgrade so costly that it's literally not worth it at that point. It's not that hard to make an adapter cable. The 500 owners forum has a post listing all of the proper connectors, pins, and pin-outs for the existing, as well as the series 4 light. For $30 in parts you can make the conversion. You don't need a resistor on the original lights (not sure who started the rumor that the Euro lights are already LEDs... that's just BS, they use the same bulbs as the old lamps)

How ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH did you get the solder to stick to the metal on the tail light? I've been trying for about an hour now and no matter how much flux I use I cant get the solder to stick to it. I'm using a new 100 watt soldering gun and everything just balls up on the metal and drops off- nothing sticks!
Yeah, it was a bitch. It's not soldering copper to copper, that's for sure. As I recall, you really have to make sure the solder tip is closest to the point & as much contact area as possible. Since it's steel, it's not the best heat conducter, so you have to hold it longer than normal. Don't give up, it does work.
Completely left out how the euro tail lights require a resistor in line for the parking light to work. Not even sure how you got these to work because you didn't explain any of that.
