Going to be doing my mom‘s oil change this afternoon. Thank you so much for this video man! I really appreciate how you laid out all the needed tools and parts in the beginning.
that oil actually looks fairly clean as it was coming out. also there is no guesswork when tightening the oil filter housing, you just turn it until it stops.
Yup! I'm in the process of changing the oil from conventional to synthetic so it's being changed sooner rather than later. True but Keep in mind everyone has different strength levels so some people think it stopped turning when they can turn it a bit more and some people can maybe over torque it
Perfect. Thanks for explaining why you didn’t use that pre drain feature. I agree. Have you considered filling the filter cup before reinstalling? I can’t see it mattering much but some people swear by it.
Yes, I used it previously, but it is a bit of a challenge to open the pre drain, and makes no difference since I am going to remove the filter cup in a controlled manner anyway. Yes, in all of my other car videos I do prime the filter (pre-fill with some oil). I didn't for this one because this filter doesn't come like the other ones that have their own housing. In hindsight I could fill the cup halfway like a normal filter but it threw me off. Yup, it's probably 4 ounces of oil at best, so I can't see it making a tremendous difference, but in the UA-cam world it has to be by the book
Kind of surprised you missed the filter drain before removing the filter housing. That's what the 3/8-inch drive disc on the bottom of the housing is for. Your filter should come with a little plastic adapter that pushes on the ball inside of that tab to drain the oil out of the filter housing
@@Striker50_ Thanks for the vote of confidence haha. I am still confused on a couple of points though. 1. Where do I dispose of the oil and does it cost money? 2. Is the jack included with the car sufficient to get under there? no ramps here haha
@@humanerror7 local AutoZone or O'Reilly's lets you recycle your oil for free. Filter too. Nice video you got!. I changed my vehicle (es 350 2009) Top gasket due to over heating. After the top gasket burn. I replaced it and changed the radiator to double face and changed the water pump. I further replaced the AC compressor. Is there any other advice you have for me? For now the car is very stable and I'm always watching the temperature. I don't have money to get another one for now. Your advice is strongly recommended. Thank you sir
Thanks! Yes, they're on the pricier end but I do love how light they are (about 3 lbs) and will last decades. I did get them for about $135 at Walmart years ago but they have gotten pricier. As long as you're using jack stands (not a floor jack) and wheel chocks, you'll be good
Thinking about fine Lexus ES 250 and I need to know if there’s a possible way for me to know if the water pump is bad and the timing belt cover leak concerning with the problems that this particular vehicle has would need to know how to diagnose these problems before I buy. Thank you.
Strongly recommend finding a mechanic in your area to inspect the vehicle you're going to purchase. They usually charge $150-$300 but it's WELL worth it because they can catch all kinds of things we're unaware of
A full synthetic is going to provide more additives and more protection. It never hurts to go with the higher quality. For example, we have the LML 2016 diesel Silverado and it asks for certain oil but since then oil quality has increased so the newer stuff is better
The crush washer on mine is stuck to the oil pan pretty good. Have tried removing it with a small screwdriver and all, but no luck. Any suggestions? Also, the Fram Ultra is an excellent choice - what I'm using as well.
Try using some sort of plastic card, and tap it with a hammer where it's wedged between the washer and the pan. Try not to use metal screwdrivers because you don't want to dent the pan, and it could leak in the future. Perhaps a flathead is a good option if you're careful with it Maybe also hitting it with a little bit of degreaser will help just make sure to cover the open hole
@@Striker50_ It wouldn’t budge no matter what I tried, but it came off with the oil drain pan bolt during the last oil change. Was pleasantly surprised, but glad it came off.
