- Elvis Presley the king of rock n roll is not someone you would associate with Scotland. yes he touched down at prestwick airport back in 1960. but is there more to the story? yes Elvis Presley directly descends from a small village in Aberdeenshire. his tale is the tale of thousands of people who left these shore's for a chance for a better life in America.
Nice story!
I'm connected to Elvis, he's my 5th cousin. He does have a connection to Scotland, but it's through his great grandmother Rosella Elizabeth Presley who had a few illegitimate children, one partner was John Henry Wallace, who is Elvis's great grandfather and their son Dee Presley is Elvis's grandfather. Back in the day, illegitimate children took the mother's surname. John H Wallace is the Scottish connection, his gggrandfather, Hugh M Wallace came from Ayrshire, Scotland. The Presley's are descended from Germany, Presley/Preslar/Presler/Bressler. I have quite a bit of Scottish blood, mostly from Renfrewshire and Aberdeenshire, damn proud of my Scottish roots!
Who knew I'm all shook up
The Beatles pre-fame were the backing band to Johhny Gentle, in 1960 they did a 7-date tour of Scotland and played venues in Keith, Fraserburgh, Peterhead, pretty much surrounding where Elvis' roots are. Freaky
Great video. I was told that Elvis's mothers father was called Robert Smith, he was from Inverness shire.
Another Scottish connection, thanks for the heads up. Glad you enjoyed the video

Interesting, several parallels to Elvis and my father Leslie Keith.
Both twins my dad was #2 twin to Wesley Keith. Born Jan. 8 n on n on. There are about 20 close parallels. Hearing this I think I'll find more. Thanks SK
Lots of parallels, how interesting. Glad you enjoyed the video
Short but sweet. Only one issue, that hip swing needs work 😝
Our family history takes us back to the same family line from Lonmay.. 😎 We Descend back to the brother that stayed in Scotland rather than immigrating…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That's pretty interesting, good company to be in.sorry for the late reply. Happy new year
Enjoyed the video. While Elvis certainly had Scottish roots, especially on his maternal side, his Presley line is well-documented back to Johannes Valentin "John" Pressler (formerly Bresseler/Presler/Presslar) born 1669 in Hochstadt, Südliche Wienstrasse, Rheinland-Pfalz. He arrived in New York in 1710, and died about 1742 in Maryland. His sons anglicized the spelling to Presley. A grandson Andreas anglicized his own name to Andrew, which may cause confusion. Another descendant is former President Jimmy Carter. My clients include Presley descendants, and I had the experience of singing at the funeral of one of his cousins, who strongly resembled Elvis. In fact, half those attending either looked like or sang like Elvis - not unusual in Appalachian mixed-blood families! There's a hill dialect which is a mix of Elizabethan English, Scots Gaidhlig, and Overhill Cherokee, which is sadly fading as mass media homogenizes the language.
They didn't need to change the spelling of Presley. Coming from Scotland the church records state Presley written exactly the way Elvis family spelt it.
