This really shows how the channel has matured over the years. I've been watching for probably 5 years now and it's so awesome to watch you guys go from constantly flexing to talking about mental health the the philosophy of goals and fitness mentally and physically.
You can do it! I lost 120 lbs. (at my lightest). If I can do it, believe me, anybody can do it. Keep at it, man. Believe in yourself and keep your eyes on the prize.
I just turned 30 and I'm really trying to make the gym a staple in my life. You Dudes have really helped me specifically with your 5×5 and Superhero Program, it keeps me motivated to try new lifts I wasn't comfortable with and to learn how to set goals for progressive overload. I'm glad that even as advanced as you guys are, we're all just figuring stuff out together. Appreciate you Buff Dudes, stay Buff!
This is the obvious next level of growth both for the channel and also for its viewers. A broader context of where a person is going is important (especially when you hit the magic 30 mark :D )
I am on a ship doing security atm, before I came on the ship I was a fat mess, 2 months later after watching these guys, I have confidence and I am getting were I want to be, takes time and patience, like he said you have to love it, and be your self nobody else. Respect dude.
Echoing what many are saying already, but this is exactly why this is imo the best fitness channel. Talking about setting a goal, reaching it and then not feeling that satisfied is so honest. Can happen in all aspects of life and Brandon’s advice is so constructive; don’t get down, just take a step back and make sure you know why your choosing your goal and what you’d like to get when you achieve it. If you draw a blank, maybe choose a different goal to work towards. I really like the attitude of “work consistently towards your goals, show discipline, but if it doesn’t work out or doesn’t give the satisfaction you thought, that’s ok. “ Promoting both working hard at something and also being easy on yourself in those pursuits is a tough balance to achieve. I think you guys nailed it. Great work. Yats Ffub 💪
Thanks for making this video man. It is very easy to feel empty after reaching fitness goals. I know I do it. It is very easy to forget who your real opponent is. I am glad someone I really look up to is talking about it.
Been following this channel since the beginning and always loved the combination of comedy and obviously the quality information. We all get older and I do enjoy this format, it's like real, down to earth, honest talk. I wouldn't mind you exploring other topics covered in this video, such as balancing fitness with family/relationships/work, etc.
Love these types of videos focusing more on the mindset aspect of fitness and having a goal/dream for fitness and overall life, a lot of people always neglect the mindset it takes to get what you want out of fitness and life, and how you gotta stay positive and try to be the best version of YOU that you can be.
You guys have been an amazing channel to follow over the years. It's like you've been friends along my own journey. Watching you progress through life (brother having kids, his leg injury, seeing your dad progress in age in a manly and dignified way, this video for you) really paints an accurate picture of what role fitness within a life plays: it doesn't have to be everything, SHOULDN'T be everything, but it's damn important. I look forward to the videos in the future continue to transition from "how to [be a buff dude], etc" to "how to [be a buff old dude]"
I love this! Thank you so much for this really thoughtful and meaningful post. I completed your bulking plan in the Fall of 2019. My plan was to take a break over the holidays and then do the cutting plan in the Spring. I started and it was tough....then lockdown happened. Cutting was cut from my priorities list (I'm a nurse so I really wasn't in a headspace to deal with anything "extra"). It was a rough time. I did some dumbbell and bodyweight work outs from home but I really wasn't feeling it. Fortunately, I was able to do the Insanity series, picked up cross country skiing, and yoga (online). I dropped the excess fat and leaned up. This helped my energy and self esteem. The yoga and skiing were helpful with my mental health and it was helpful to socialize while skiing. What you talked about resonates with me greatly. I want to be fit and active but I don't care that much about things anymore. My priorities have changed. Still, I don't think I've ever been as happy or comfortable with my body. My cardio endurance better than it has been for years, I'm more flexible, my chronic wrist pain is gone (thanks to the yoga) and I'm now able to front squat. I still hit the gym, but less often and more full body training. Thank you BUFF Dudes. This video definitely broadens my understanding of Food and Fitness.
I could totally see a Christmas Series with the Buff Dudes by the fire 🔥 sitting in a big chair giving advice and motivation over the holidays! “Advice from a Buff Dude”
You couldn't have said it better. I always tell people not to get hung up on bulking/cutting being polar opposite approaches to your regimen. You're either in a surplus or a deficit. You're either eating less or more of the staples that were already present in your diet. No need to dress it up as something that it's not by going off the rails and eating everything or suddenly dipping into a sharp deficit. If you're a tried and true Buff Dude or Dudet, you know how you should be eating, and you know what variables will slow or foil your progress. Take your time, and enjoy the process. Your mental/emotional investments with the goal will likely persevere longer a result. Slowly been leaning out since Aug, and the work is starting to show. I'm maintaining, if not continuing to build strength and I'm still very motivated to hit my goal. If all goes well, I'll be returning in my next PL meet as an 83kg instead of a 93kg.
I love how this channel covers the less obvious parts of fitness. Growing up, fitness was synonymous with working out. Took me a while to understand that nutrition, planning, and mental health are as important as exercise.
When I started working out, my two main mistakes were lack of sleep and not eating enough (not being in a caloric surplus). I always thought I was eating enough and was disappointed because my weight stagnated. Then I got my first diet plan created (I think it was from Dietarize iirc). I realised that my previous food intake was way below my needs, although I thought I'm good. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 kcal in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.
We should probably also talk about the health implications of being that big, she's about doing large bulks and cuts. Other than that, this was a great reflective video. Awesome transparency.
That was VERY inspirational. I have some changes to make based on what you said. 1, I need to stop looking at healthier guys and trying to become them; focus on you. 2, I'm setting a goal to reach my ideal weight (195 lbs) by next September when I turn 40 (I'm 273 pounds now). And 3, before I used to workout that I did, but I wasn't enjoying it, because it felt like work-work-work. Now I found my workouts that I enjoy along with watching Conan The Barbarian/Destroyer and wrestling while working out.
Brandon...that was deep. A lot of us watch your videos cause you are informative and entertaining. And there's a lot of us that take your videos to heart and use it in a positive way that in turn, make us enjoy exercising again. With that said, we love your honesty and how both you and Hudson "keep it real" and entertaining. In my opinion, The Buff Dudes (and the rest of the Buff Dudes Family) have the best fitness show on any Social Media format... Stay Buff!
I just got back into the gym and this message is exactly what I needed, especially with knowing that we have to be patient to finally see a result and also be consistent of course and with work it may get a bit difficult at times but I really want to get stronger than I was back then when I was consistent in the gym but slowly but surely I’ll get there. Y’all always help me and always motivate me especially before I workout, thanks.
Excellent and well said. Ahead of everything as usual. These guys are always there with pure consistency, humor and feeling. Promotes good products and emphasize core values. Worth saying over and over again the occurence of you on the tube is very valuable and rare! Its like reading a good book. I really hope you get the recognition you deserve, you've been an invaluable inspiration over the years. Always consistent and true! Well said!
Brandon, this video was amazing! The message that you conveyed is truly important and inspiring, especially in this day & age! Real talk from the buff dudes!
Love the positivity on this channel! My son is getting into lifting to get stronger for his sports, could you all do some basic technique videos? I try to show him, but he goes back to his way, and I don't want him to hurt himself. Thanks for everything!
Awesome as always! This was really good and inspirational! I love how transparent are you guys! I'm bulking and for my own mental setting it's been hard to look the scale and the mirror getting big and not falling in the trap of " I'm getting fat, I'm unattractive" and remember to myself all the time that in getting stronger than yesterday. You inspired me so much!
Hand down, the best video i have seen in your chanel. So much wisdom that hopefully will help some people who are stuck somewhere and somehow in their lives, regardless the goal been fitness or anything else.
Should of got a home gym. Made the best gains of my life over lock downs, stuck at home like it was the hyperbolic time chamber. Bench went from 275 to 315 over like 4-5 months.
Thank you Brandon and Hudson for all of your quality content over the years. It dawned on me I have been watching you guys for SEVEN years every week. You guys are always here helping us fans along the journey. Please keep it up you guys are fantastic. P.s Brandon is a cut coming potentially?
Thank you. I appreciate the time and thought you invested in this video. Probing your motives and questioning your goals are a true sign of pursuing wisdom. I want a Wise Dudes t-shirt.
What a great video and a great message. Too me, social media is the cancer a lot of us trip into. When I quit Instagram, my goals and happiness became a lot more apparent and achievable .
You're right. I am a small dude so I really wanted to bulk up. I worked out and eat a lot of food thinking I want to become a bear. But, after about 5 years I got to a point where I liked the way I look, and found other priorities in life besides physical exercise.
Love this video. Buff Dudes inspired me to start a 5x5 programme last Monday. 3 gyms sessions Monday/Wednesday/Friday and cardio Tuesday/Thursday plus a few long walks on my gym days. Trying to slim down a bit so sorted out my TDEE, calories, macros etc etc. One thing I forgot about was the ramping up of the hunger when you start a fitness plan again. Despite eating enough, plenty of protein/fats/fibre I am hungry ALL THE TIME. Enjoying it so far though and thanks for all the videos. Stay Buff!
I could listen to you speak all day, Brandon, but then I would never get to my goals now would I? 🥰 I loved this format for a video! I know how far you've come, the challenges you've faced, the dragons you have SLAYED to get where you are, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally! 💪 You are truly an 🎉inspiration🎉 to me! Thank you for being such a ROCK and support for all of us who are reaching, striving to get to that next rung on the fitness ladder! Blessings always to you, Hudson, your parents and beautiful family. Vancouver, Washington🙏🌲🇺🇸 HAPPY VETERANS DAY! 💖
Stepping on the scale in your early 20s: "Man, I'm gonna bulk up. I can't wait to get huge!" Stepping on the scale in your late 30s: "Man, uh, I bulked up. Maybe too much...."
100% love this type of video. Tho I love all your videos. The talk at the end is one of the reasons I love this channel. You all have helped me get back into the mind set where working out is fun and not a chore I have to do. Really wish I had something like this when I was younger with less lingering injuries.
I love the graphical line, the way they present the content, it is funny, and they are always adding new angles to what they discuss, I love that their channel is a family business. But what they do keeps feeling more and more distant, only for very accomplished individuals with an unmovable will, like watching a Marvel movie, it's still a lot of fun. I hope they would involve "clients", regular people that get results following their methods, anyway.
TLDR: You guys helped me through a rough time and now I'm back and I'm also changing my goals. Thank you. I've suffered with constant pain my entire life but was told to suck it up and eventually just thought that's what everyone goes through. In 2015 I collapsed, realised my legs were numb. Loads of specialists and radiology later it turns out that I have a number of deformities and injuries that have taken their toll on my body. I was told by multiple specialists that they expected me to be wheel chair bound within a year. I went into a full blown depression meltdown but then I remembered how stubborn I am and decided that if I'm going down its going to be on my terms. Started to do a lot of research on strength and physical fitness. 2016 I discovered your channel and you motivated me get into weight training. I went from barely being able to squat with an empty bar to 120kg. Early 2019 I suffered another back injury. I was down, could barely walk most days. Ended up moving out of the suburbs and an hour away from the nearest gym and just lost all motivation. Of course the pandemic didn't help. I'm not in the worst shape of my life but definitely more of a Fluff Dude right now. Its time I pull myself together. Not looking at getting quite as buff as I was 3 years ago but this time it's more about functional strength and just just feeling better about my fitness level. Today was my first workout in almost 30 months. Just mobility, warmup and core. 20 minutes almost killed me but its a start.
I needed to hear that. I've been struggling finding my why again. I'm 18, 240, and been working out since my freshman year. I've always wanted to get big and muscly. Now I'm all most there and I'm just not happy with the way I look in the mirror. So I've been changing how I work. I'm starting to go for more circuit training. Today I got 135 a total of 50 time. 2 sets of 25. That a PR for me. But I want more. That was just a normal bench day. Every other day I'm thinking will be a circuit drill. I remember why I train. I've always wanted to look like Batman. But I'll need to show a friend of mine this vid. This will help him. Thank you Brandon. I need this today.
Buff Dude Brandon....great post!! I love that you guys do these type of follow-ups at the end of a series and pack it full of great content! Thank you both!
This channel is awesome! I started watching these videos last year and it helped me getting a lot healthier, considering goals, exercises and nutrition. Big thank you, guys!
Thank you for your honesty. It really makes an impact. We don’t always get it right, but we can’t give up if we are passionate about it. Let’s do what we can for a better health.
Hey, I've been watching your content for several years now. I like and appreciate the message that you guys send. When it comes to bulking, I haven't heard you guys talk about bulking for strength. When it comes to cutting; aesthetics is first in mind, but bulking is for Mass or strength. Maybe you guys could do a video or a series on bulking for strength like a powerlifting competition. Anyways keep up the good content I appreciate you!
Brandon, I follow the fitness industry for a long time and let me tell you. You have an incredible physique near peak for what you can achieve without any detrimental health effects or drugs, you should be proud of that and other things like your channel and your beard style also maybe try mastering calisthenics I think they are cool to do and it’s something I think might expand your horizons.
Very much agree with the message in this video. It took me a long time to really understand that I should compete against myself. Everyone has a different body and expecting the same results that someone else may be able to achieve is a recipe for being let down. We all have our own personal best.
I'm meso-endomorphic. I can bulk just by eating what I'd consider a normal amount of good food, and as long as I keep the weights sessions consistent it's easy to add inches and mass. Losing fat is the hard part, because a caloric deficit doesn't just make me hungry, it negatively impacts my mood to a pretty extreme degree. I found that a 32 hour fast once a week is quick and easy for getting the deficit, but without the daily hunger slog.
This really hit home. Currently on a bulk from watching Chris Bumsted but think I'm just gonna try and do the best I can without a bulk. Great video, 👍 💪
I needed a video like this, I’ve been lifting for a little over a year and been trying to get lean, watching videos on pros and cons of bulking, I also have seen myself compete in my head with other guys in the gym and know I should just compete with myself…Thanks, I’m going to set new goals and start checking them off…. Yeaaaaah! 🏋️
Dudes your videos are so well made. I love the presentation. This kind of content is so interesting too! You're just talking about your experience! You're telling a story of your life.
Great video and even greater message. The "why" of our goals has to be strong enough. Beyond the superficial, it needs to motivate through those days when we don't want to continue. This mindset perspective is what I am currently focusing on with my channel.
One of the best things you can do as a natural lifter is to study the philosophy of Old-School bodybuilders. Old-School bodybuilders were ingenious physique architects. They had a profound knowledge of the principles of proper nutrition, smart supplementation, exercise science and muscle adaptability. If you combine Old-School bodybuilding wisdom with modern, evidence-based science, it's the best, safest, most effective way in achieving a strong, sexy, healthy and aesthetic physique. Vintage Physique by George Kelly is a nice book on this. It includes 3 lean bulking protocols (diet + training + supplements) depending on your training level.
This is why I’ve been following for years. Can y’all make a video about weightloss for a big guy like myself? Started at 415 and currently at 265 but I feel like I hit a wall. Trying to get down to a weight that is aesthetically pleasing.
this channel is like a friend talking to you, really quality content

This really shows how the channel has matured over the years. I've been watching for probably 5 years now and it's so awesome to watch you guys go from constantly flexing to talking about mental health the the philosophy of goals and fitness mentally and physically.

That was very inspirational. Goal setting is something we should all consider in life cause when you don't know where you are going you end up nowhere

You're right. I am a small dude so I really wanted to bulk up. I worked out and eat a lot of food thinking I want to become a bear. But, after about 5 years I got to a point where I liked the way I look, and found other priorities in life besides physical exercise.
Thanks for sharing those honest thoughts. "Consistency is key"
Thank you for the final message, I appreciate it so much :)
I loved this format for a video!
Vancouver, Washington🙏🌲🇺🇸
HAPPY VETERANS DAY! 💖
Love the format. Best video of 2021.
This is just what I needed to hear! Been stuck in the same mental space when it comes to goals and needed to switch it up! Thank you!
Absolutely!
I love these dudes they motivate me so much. I work 5 days a week because of them and I feel happy doing it thanks buff dudes YEAAHH!! 💪
Gotta have core values to make it through anything in this life -- building a better 'you' remains no exception. Great motivational vid!
Stepping on the scale in your early 20s: "Man, I'm gonna bulk up. I can't wait to get huge!"
Stepping on the scale in your late 30s: "Man, uh, I bulked up. Maybe too much...."
In your 40's: hey watch me eat this burger and gain 5 lbs.
You following me, brah?
Very true
Hey man. Great message, this is way more honesty than most fitness UA-camrs give
Love the honesty in this video and the almost philosophical touch!! :) It's cool to see your reflection on life choices
Always staying real! Love you guys!
Definitely liked this format. Pls keep making these.
It has been great to see you and Hudson bulking up and the lessons you yourself having now learned, Thanks for the content!
Buff Dudes videos are always helpful and motivational! Thank you!
Buff Dude Brandon....great post!! I love that you guys do these type of follow-ups at the end of a series and pack it full of great content! Thank you both!
Despite buff dudes being informative its kinda very motivational as to get up and make a difference with yourself
I’m doing some homework while listening to this, and man I would love it if you made a podcast
It’s such helpful advice
We order hello fresh almost every week and we always love it. A lot of the meals you get is ones I have already tried.
Great video. Lots of good things I need to hear, especially consistency. Wouldn't be working out nearly as a effectively without you guys
Totally agree
One of the best videos, you guys have ever made.
Awesome video, I appreciate the honesty and straightforwardness!
Yeaaaaah! 🏋️
Great video guys. Haven't watched your stuff in a while but this one was great.
Super level headed information, super personal, man thank you for the information.
HelloFresh pro tip: get multiple portions and freeze / alternate. Changed my life: more variety, no waste.
I've got nothing but respect for you!
I have just started going to the gym two weeks ago, and your videos have been really helpful and your advice has been on point. Thanks!
Sound advice and very motivational. And yes, I did like this style of video, please make more. :)
Love the challenger! Got a charger myself and couldn’t be happier with how awesome it is!
This was great. Always awesome content from this channel
Very good message presented in a very good manner-nailed it!
Time + patience + consistency = goals achieved. Got it!
I really want to see him go competitive. I think if he put his mind to it, he could do well in classic physique. He has the size.
This is why I’ve been following for years. Can y’all make a video about weightloss for a big guy like myself? Started at 415 and currently at 265 but I feel like I hit a wall. Trying to get down to a weight that is aesthetically pleasing.
