Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, Dutch ensemble Camerata RCO, Dutch baritone Raoul Steffani and the audience in Amsterdam ánd at home form one big, happy Amsterdam family whilst singing the traditional song ‘Aan de Amsterdamse grachten’ (On the Amsterdam canals) during the Prinsengrachtconcert 2019.

Almost tearful after seeing this. Born and raised in Amsterdam but living abroad. The accompaniment put me in mind of the Hatikvah.

I can't sing this song along without becoming tearful. Love this song, the sphere and sentiment so much (I am Amsterdammer). Amazing performance, what a joy the entire concert was!

@@notaire2 Ich wohne in der Niederländen ... en général il fait bien plus chaud à Paris qu'ici, mais les provinces du sud (Brabant et Limbourg) ont eu un bel été. (Excusez-moi de vous écrire en français mais je le parle beaucoup mieux que l'allemand). Grüsse!
Thanks for your reply in French. So far as music life is concerned, I think people living in the Netherlands are now much happier than those living in other European countries, as they have quite a few world-class orchestras such as the Concertgebouw and a lot of excellent soloists such as Jussen brothers.

Prachtig, maar het mooiste vond ik nog de reactie van het publiek toen ze doorkregen welk lied kwam. En ook als uiteindelijk het publiek die emotie kwijt kan met het meezingen van het refrein op 1:45.

Eh? A nice thought, Fred, but there are loads of Roman Catholics in the Netherlands (myself included), especially in Brabant and Limburg in the South where the vast majority are Roman Catholic.
@@mfjdv2020 but it's originally a protestant country and many people in the north are having a (little) connection with it.

In Holland only 49 percent of the population is religious, of which only 15 percent is protestant. It is unlikely that they, and I (Dutch, secular humanist) would appreciate to be embraced by the Roman Catholic Church...!

Nu kijk ik en luister ik naar het GRACHTEN CONCERT en weer van die vette italiaanse Vibratie waarom niet gewoon éénvoudig en mooi het liedje zingen
om een amsterdammer te zaaain. Het publiek zingt 10 x beter dan die solisten met hun vette vibrato. Zangkunst is bij hen de solisten ver te zoeken
Michael, die 'vette Italiaanse vibrato' is het resultaat van een klassiek getraind instrument. Als de stem getraind en vrij is van spanning in het lichaam, de nek, het hoofd etc dan ontstaat er een natuurlijke vibrato, dat is de vibrato die je hoort bij opera en klassiek getrainde zangers. Zij moeten opzettelijk spanning zetten op hun stem om de vibrato te elimineren. Het is een kwestie van techniek, en voor de luisteraar een kwestie van smaak. Ik vond het geweldig!
Denk dat 95% van de mensen die daar zijn niet eens uit Amsterdam komen😆
Some cities have this: they draw you in whether you want to or not. I am a Mokummer (born Amsterdammer) who left in the mid '80s but every time I watch one of those incredible Prinsengracht concerts and see my Amsterdammers together, forgetting all the things that separate them and just letting the joy of being gezellig together, the tears roll over my cheeks. That is Dutch at its best.
