The Wylde chamber today only has meaning to US Service Rifle Competitors, shooting VLD Bullets at 600 and 1000 yard slow fire, single load stages. The Wylde chamber supports bullet seating to the lands for best accuracy without problems of under or over purchase of case neck that will exist shooting a VLD bullet from .223 or 5.56 chamber.

The .223(inches) wasn't designed for civilian use, it was designed by Eugene stoner when he invented the ar-15 which became the m16. The 5.56(millimeter) nato(north American trade organization) is the NATO (rest of the world uses metric system) version of .223(inches) and is loaded to slightly higher pressure.
The saami spec for .223 cannot be changed, therefore a new designation of 5.56 NATO was used for the higher (slightly more modern) pressure version.

Sorry G2niverse, you’re completely wrong about the 5.56 & .223 rounds having no physical difference, except the pressures of each. The 5.56 NATO round has a .125″ longer throat than the .223 Rem does. The reason you shouldn’t shoot a 5.56 in a .223 barrel is because of the longer throat. It creates pressure that the .223 Rem barrel can’t handle continuously.

@@LKaramazov I’ve done chronographing of the rounds in 556 barrels and .223 wylde barrels.
The .223 wylde barrel results In more consistent powder usage in both calibers. Noticeable if you bench rest at 300 yards. Good ammo will get you to under 20SD. Which can keep you at about 1.5 MOA ish.
In a 556 barrel you get loose unoptimized powder explosions and results in wide SD. Moa of like 3moa from same ammo.
Offhand? If you shooting in an SBR under 50 yards. Get a 556 barrel and shoot .223 rem ammo. It’s actually cheaper.

With the optimization of the Wylde, does that result in increased jams or failures with the 5.56?
Is it true (heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend on another youtube vid) that the 5.56 barrels were redesigned with the wider tolerances due to increased jamming. Maybe it was due to the powder also, but I had to ask.
    Cheers

if you are going to war stay with 5.56 its less fussy feeding with a dirty chamber. For most people I would go with tighter wylde because they are shooting off a bench not sleeping in a desert with a dirty chamber.

    • @alecubudulecu
      @alecubudulecu Рік тому

      Yes the 556 is wider.
That’s also why the 223 caliber in a 223 barrel actually performs ballistically about the same.

From what I’ve seen elsewhere the Wylde tightens some tolerances that were sacrificed in the 5.56 to accommodate the higher chamber pressure vs the .223. Apparently a 223 will be more accurate at range than a 5.56 because of this, and the Wylde compensates for that so you get 223 accuracy out of a 5.56 cartridge

Depends on use. The short answer for your question - all else equal - you will get better accuracy out of .223 wylde - when shooting 223. 556 marginally better.
But they are more expensive and often heavier.
Long lasting - for same price - 556 barrel.
If you shoot JUST 556 then get 556.
If short barrel. Might as well get 556. You can get a nice pencil barrel lightweight. POA shift from heat won’t matter much up to 100 yards in an SBR.
