Many thanks! Took a bus- got on at the front- had to fight my way to the machine- of course- located at the back of the bus- 2 riders helped me get it validated. We arrive at Termini, and 2 atac workers barred the way out, to check tickets. Ours had been stamped. Thank you!
Very useful David!! Talking about transportation in Italy, I took a train in Sicily last month, from Taormina to Palermo and it was dreadful, the journey was broken, i had to take a bus, which was an hour late, on my way to the airport, almost missed my plane... nightmare! I hope things work better in Rome!!!
Oh never take the bus or any form of public transit in Sicily! We always use cars! Yeah, as long as you take the trains to get to the airport in Rome, you're good!
Thank you for the pdf! Oh my gosh you're so right about the heavy braking. I've witnessed people falling down on the bus and yes, air con on the bus is nonexistent! I've had to take certain buses to actually get to metro stops because I have had trouble reading the pallina (why not scheda elettronica or bacheca?). Another really informative video and funny☆ Plus all the atac buses catching on fire! 😱 ..I also pray I can get a seat on the bus so I don't have to hold on for dear life or being pushed up against strangers .
Tina: You could say bacheca but palina as I showed in the video is what is most used. They even use the word "monitor". I dunno why they don't use AC. It's either broken, or they don't feel heat like we do in New England!
I use Google and it works fine. I've used buses in Rome a lot and they work just fine. I know that people living in the outskirts of Rome have more problems, but I don't. The only thing is, like every where else, they are too crowded during rush hour.
In Pisa, we noticed the busses have the word “abbonatti” written at the rear door. Since our name is Bonati, we figured this was where we were supposed to board the bus! Ha! Only kidding. It basically means subscriber or annual ticket holder. Second, one bus driver looked exactly like me in my 20s. Then later, we found that everyone in Italy looks like me.
Hi! A few questions for you - I am traveling with my husband to Rome for 7 days in August. We are wanting to buy the 7 Day ticket for that reason - Does that mean unlimited rides in those 7 days, and are those rides just for buses or for metro and buses? Also - how do you signify you need your exit is coming up? Australia had an odd system for this! One more thing, do you have to buy a new ticket every time you use the metro? I might have misunderstood your explanation there.
Hi Cara. Italy in August? Prepare for some heat! Correct, you get unlimited everything with that 7 day ticket. You only need to notify that you're getting off if you're on the bus or tram and you can do that by hitting a red button near the door. If you do not use the 7 day ticket and just buy a regular one at a cost of 1.50€ then unfortunately once you use it to enter the metro that's it. You can't reuse it to enter the metro again.
Do you recommend taking a bus from City center Rome to Termini subway station. I want to visit the sites in Rime but I want to take subways to Venice, Amalfi and Florence ✈️✈️✈️✈️
Hello David, thank you for these very helpful videos. I'll be traveling there in July for the first time, and my wife and I (plus my parents) will end our cruise with two and a half days in Rome. If we stay somewhere near the Termini station, but plan to see the Imperial city and the Vatican, will it ever be necessary to use the bus?
Hi, thank you for the kind words! I'd say no. if you're going to be around Termini you can easily get around with the metro which works the best in Rome. Although if you want to catch a bus on Via Nazionale there are plenty that go by there and they can lead you to the center of town. Otherwise take the metro from Termini to Spagna and you're in the heart of the city.
Sure I think that’s a good idea. I think I may have said this in the video, after I made this well over two years ago, but it’s always a good idea to study the roads going street level things to google. I do that to this day because in Rome there are unexpected turns that you don’t see until the last minute

As usual another great video full of helpful hints and onfo.
helpful. that's what I aim for. Thank you!
Your videos are must watch for tourists going to italy honestly speaking👏🏻
Mark lester Serrano appreciate it ! As soon as I get some sign that tourism is coming back I’ll make new videos on that subject

Rome is even worse. It's a nightmare!

As a bus driver, I have found city buses a lot harder to break smoothly than tour coaches. However as David says probably attitude and speed lol
Aside from the human equation, what makes it harder?

Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience. My wife takes the bus in the morning and generally she has no problems because it’s to the center of town.
Question of the week: Ever taken the bus in Rome or any other city? Similarities or differences?
No only in a tour coach. I wouldn't want to drive there lol
Great Video as Always
thank you! What did you like in particular?

😂😂😂. understandable confusion!

Sure. It could work but I still prefer the metro

Thanks for the info! I’ll be in Rome next month! If I buy the 24 hr ticket, do I get unlimited rides in metro/bus/train/tram in that time frame?
Hey ! You’re welcome. My pleasure!
The answer is yes 😎
@@DavidsDoseofItaly awesome! Thanks so much!
How do you know if your 100 minutes is up on your tickets?
The conductor will tell you and you get a fine! But actually when you stamp it, it shows the date and time when it was validated.
Google maps offline w downloaded maps ?
Sure that’s an option
I’m more asking than anything. Headed there in a month or so. Seems like a good idea ?

Ma come va con la brexit? Ti sei ripreso o sei ancora sconvolto?
Alessandro Fabrizi Io sono americano quindi la faccenda non mi riguarda per fortuna. Però mi dispiace per tutti i miei amici che sono coinvolti in qualche modo.
Can you take your luggage in the bus?
Sure. I've done it. But if it's packed it might be a problem. Consider a taxi if necessary.
David tells no lies about Rome bus brakes.
It's that aggressive way of driving here. They may also think, "well it's not my car, what do I care?"
