  • Today I’m showing you how to make shower steamers. Shower steamers fizz & release amazing scents into the air, providing aromatherapy in the shower. If you’re un-sure if you want a shower or a bath, no worries- I’m giving you a recipe that can be used as both - a shower steamer or a bath bomb!
    RECIPE: 1 cup (250 grams) baking soda, 1/2 cup (100 grams) citric acid, 1/4 cup (30 grams) corn starch. 7.5 milliliters fragrance oil, 7.5 milliliters carrier oil (I used sweet almond oil), * (optional) 20 drops essential oil. For BOTH (steamer & bomb recipe): 7.5 milliliters fragrance oil, 5 milliliters carrier oil, 2.5 milliliters polysorbate 80, & *20 drops essential oil.
    Sieve dry ingredients together. In a small cup, whisk wet ingredients together. Add wet to dry very slowly while whisking. Then rub mix between hands to ensure ingredients are thoroughly & evenly incorporated. You can add any type of color that you want. I’m using a shampoo bar mold. Relaxing rose has a calming blend of sandalwood rose FO & stress relief essential oil. I’m adding a ½ cup of mix for each tablet (so they’re the same size). In order to get the mix in tightly, twist the top a bit while applying pressure. Then, scrape loose mix on sides & pack it once more. The more pressure applied during packing, the sturdier the tablet will be. Painting is optional. Add alcohol & mica to a cup & swirl it around to mix. The rose steamers don’t need to be painted especially if you’ve already added other elements. Zesty orange has a lively blend of citrus fragrance oils & alive essential oil. If you’re using a citrus slice, I have a few tips: choose a very thin citrus slice, make the tablet a bit thicker than normal, if there’s damage- repair it, if possible, & shrink wrap this tablet & let it dry 24 hours. I painted the inside lines, the round edges, & added a few leaves. Sleepy lavender has a hypnotic blend of lavender fragrance oil & sleep tight essential oil. Drop a few scattered lavender buds or place them in line like a sprig of lavender. Slowly & carefully add mix so the buds aren’t disturbed, then mold as usual. I recommend painting this tablet. First make a light outline, then fill in lavender buds. Last, add the stem. Peppy Mint is a shower steamer ONLY! It has an uplifting blend of peppermint & happy essential oils & menthol crystals. Same dry ingredients + [7-10 grams menthol crystals & 15 milliliters carrier oil (I used hemp seed oil or avocado - I FORGOT!)]. Microwave until crystals are completely dissolved (about 40 seconds). You can also add about 20 drops essential oil to the liquid. To make the sparkly salts, dip them in alcohol & mica.

    Is there a way to do this without any fragrance oil and only essential oil? Would you have to increase the EO amount or can you increase the carrier oil?
    Also, I'm curious as to why the fragrance plus the EO - does it make the smell stronger or is it a way to save onuse of only the EOs? Thank you for these great videos.

      Designs (images, text, flourishes, patterns) - they're all super tricky. The ONLY thing I know to do in this situation is play around with the recipe... I've tried different things like more wet, less wet, etc. & it just depends. FIRST, don't add anything extra, especially like petals, exfoliants, lavender buds, etc. Get the mix as uniform as possible. Next, always make small batches at a time. Lots of times my first few come out then once the mix starts to dry, it's downhill from there.

    I have watched most if not all of your awesome videos!!! I saw the comment below my comment saying something about a candle drip anyway it made me think of something that I saw on a dyi the other day. You probably know about this or you do these!? I saw that people make lotion and massage oil candles and I thought you might be interested in doing a dyi on a lotion candle. It’s basically just soy, beeswax, Shea butter and oil with of course fragrance or essential oils. I am going to make a lotion candle this week or next week. Most people do the massage oil candle but I think the lotion candle could serve as both massage and lotion. Anyway the lotion candle dyi was done by Mrs. Soap and Clay if you want to watch it. I’m sure you probably already know about this but l just thought you could do something awesome with maybe the look because you are great at making things look so cute or so classy! Anyway if you do one I will be definitely watching! I hear these candles are very popular and sell fast! I watch dyi’s on a daily basis because I love to get new ideas and because I am slightly color blind it helps me with choosing colors for different projects. Have a good day my fellow Cajun! :)

    Hi Dora , what would you add to the steamer to make it more wet so it stays together better?

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  2 роки тому +1

      Lots of people like to spray alcohol and/or witch hazel, but I find that dries out the mix more than anything… personally I add polysorbate 80 in small amounts and in large amounts I would add a light oil, like sweet almond

      @@CreativeBathLab Since I saw your rock hard BB vid, I'm thinking to try adding the 5ml of water to the melt recipe to make harder melts. I have more success "blooming" water in the soda first, and blending in the citric acid last. 👍😊

    Dora! HEELLLPPP! I’m trying to perfect making the menthol shower steamers. Is there a way to make them harder? They’re functional, the menthol is perfect but they’re fragile. A few batches I’ve had to rematch bc they’re crumbly and don’t stay together. I’m thinking I need more moisture? Maybe something to firm them up? Sheesh . Tried a puck mold, they wouldn’t stay together. I’ve thought about adding a lil Vicks to see if that helps. Any help would be appreciated. Btw humidity level in my house trying now is about35. I’m afraid to turn on the humidifier 🙄

      Yes- try more moisture & pack that mold as hard as possible (like stand on it). Also, mine were a bit crumbly too- the main thing is to touch them as little as possible right after. I made a little cardboard disc thing then moved it carefully on there, then shrink wrapped them. Otherwise, several of them would crumble the next day when I went in to tough them

    Hi dear.. why you use polysorbate 80??

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  2 роки тому

      Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier. An emulsifier helps oils & powder colorants, like mica, mix in the water. With out it, oils & colors separate, float on top the water, & will likely cause a nasty ring around the tub (instead of mixing in with the water & going down the drain).

    I recommend only use Essential oils if your certified to as there are many that can’t have certain types. The type of lavender with botanical name lavendula Augustifolia is highly toxic to those on warfarin, the elderly, pregnant & breast feeding mums and newborns to children of 7yrs.
    Also pregnant & breast feeding mums can’t have Rose EO, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Fragrance. Lavender with botanical name Lavendula Offisinalls is the Safest (NOW Foods brand)
