To be fair, since it wasn't an impression that involved speaking, a lot of credit goes to the costume department, because that getup actually looks like something Elton John would have worn at the time.

Loved Andrea's performance in "Club Paradise," which had a few other SCTV alumni in it. Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty... led by Robin Williams and Peter O'Toole.
Pity it wasn't a bigger success. It's always been one of my favorite movies of the 80's. =)

Great love for Andrea Martin but Katherine O'hara was a powerhouse comedian even then and her decades long career has been filled with great performances. I consider Ohara/Levy to be the funniest and most consistent comedy duo of the last 40 years.

I was born in 1964 and got to see SCTV from the very beginning. We lived in Sudbury and didn't have cable TV in the early years so had few channels. I always thought it was hilarious and wondered how it would ever be bettered. Nothing's even come close. Andrea Martin is my favourite. The way she commits to it like her performance here. They're all excellent but I laugh harder from the first moment with her. Or Catherine O"Hara when she does Lola Falana and shouts out loud to the audience "I want to bare all your children." Funniest line ever. It looks so easy. Just a bunch of goofs getting together and clowning around. How come nothing like this has been done since? And with the nonsense going on in the world today a person in a coma could write perfect scripts. Bob and Doug even did an excellent Christmas album. I couldn't get into it when it went to NBC. That's most of what's available today so I watch some of it.

Lee's outfit, (by 'Louis Speca.') at the end - the red-sequined Santa number, with the ostrich-feather trim - so big, he's almost unable to see the piano, as he's playing (and then, when he stands, and it's got even MORE feathers by the waist) is hilarious. He looks like an over-stuffed bird in a Santa suit.

I remember watching it away back in the late 70's when it first premiered, late night of course, and thought it was great and quirky, liking the fact that it came from Canada. I miss this show, as well! I remember staying up until 2:00 am on Friday nights, audio-taping the show, as it ran on NBC! It was always the high point of my week. Thank God I have the whole DVD collection! Thanks for posting!

Damn can you imagine if he actually did a dueling piano thing with Elton John? I wonder what Elton John thought about Liberace.

Perfect impersonation of Elton. Who played the part? Was it Rick Moranis?

People associate SCTV with improvisation, but impersonation is a better fit. This show had so many fantastic mimics who could actually excel at singing or dancing or acting, making almost any premise seem real.

This show laid SNL to waste even in the SNL glory days in its first 5 years. Thank God for UA-cam.
