I agree that there are definitely beats and easter eggs that only fans of the original series can appreciate, but at the same time, my friend who has never seen the animated series or even much X-media at all really likes the show too.

"Wolverine fans, are you okay?" I'm thrilled and want to see a Wolverine-focused spin off with him dealing with the trauma of his healing factor working properly. But I'm one of the few Wolverine fans that loved the bone claw era.
I think that's fair. I'm one of those who never cared for feral Wolverine but this show is so good I'm willing to let the writers make me love that plot line too.
As a wolverine fan, who was wrecked by this, Logan needs to be out of the fight till season 2. I honestly want season 2 episode 1 at the earliest to end with the splash page from wolverine 75 of wolverine in the danger room popping the bone claws for the first time.
I loved it too, I can admit its flaws, but I was a kid at the time so yea. I have all them issues besides the one where he got the adamantium back, he was cool as Death I thought.

I really don't think there's some deeper meaning behind them wearing their old uniforms. The mansion was destroyed so they got the old outfits from Muir island.
Seeing Storm in the intro wearing her old school costume made me smile.
While Cerebro did detect Bastion's enhanced mind, and while he was born with his modifications, the show clarified that Bastion isn't a mutant in the sense of having the X-gene.
That said, he would have been raised by a conflicted mother that would only understand his abilities as a mutation, so he saw his abilities as an affliction and himself as a monster.
Bastion is basically a cellularly integrated cyborg, and falls under that group of characters like Broo and Warlock who are called 'mutants' only because they're aberrations to their race.
Although he may very well be likened to a mutant by other characters to convince him to cease hostilitie (or experience a logic error loop), he probably wouldn't get swept up in that Sentinel logic about humans begetting mutants since he's the deliberately engineered fruit of Nimrod/Mastermold's labors.

Dang it, now I want the New Mutants with Warlock, Boom Boom and Rictor.
But with human defects, Bastion could be convinced he is the same abomination he hunts. Him controlling all of them, would destroy him.

I think the retro outfits are temporary since the X mansion were destroyed along with the team’s gear so I think the X-Men will be back in their Jim Lee suits by next season
Wolverine fan here... personally I am THRILLED Logan has FINALLY taken the back seat. Jesus it's been like what 30 years that he's been on top in a comic universe that has SO many great characters. I'm also really excited they're doing feral wolverine and onslaught. I've got full trust in this creative team to make great stories from unsuccessful comics. I think we're in good hands.

Never been the biggest Wolverine fan but I appreciated his popularity put butts in seats for movies and got a lot of new folks and main stream attention to the Xmen series when there isn’t have been to discover new chars
With that said, even as I a kid I was always surprised Wolverine never considered Magneto wud control his adamantium, I just never thought he would literally rip it out of him 🤷🏿
Didn't he only go no nose when Genesis tried to put the adamantium back in, and it all went tits up?
Love Onslaught….but truthfully, I’m biased. That’s when I started reading. Like how Bastion was a catalyst for Onslaught instead of the other way around.

Amen to your thoughts on Onslaught. Honestly I was really close to dropping comics after the Onslaught reveal which was the biggest let down of the “X-traitor” storyline. But I still held on….until OZT…the resolve of that storyline, where the biggest badass villain in Bastion gets taken down by Iceman and then arrested by SHIElD, that shut me off completely. I could not believe that BS. lol
They have really been so much better about showing female friendship and I love it.
I would say Morph got as sttong as a calm Hulk, which is a level a number of characters achieve.
Beau said in tweet right after he was let go that he had already written all his scripts for season two. So the effects of his absence won’t be known until season three
I'm a wolverine fan and I loved this episode! I hope it's leading to what it lead to in the comics (Logan getting his memories back and learning what his power does if it doesn't have to deal with the adamantium).
Magneto, Rogue, Cyclops, Sunspot, everyone snatched him bald and he doesn’t even have hair. Wheels should have stayed his ass in space with Bird Queen. To quote, Magneto, STFU Charles.

Every time Bastion is on the screen with the voice of Theo James, I can’t help but smile because that voice is so perfect for the character.

I can't believe we're coming to episode 10 and this has to end for awhile. I'm going to miss staying up late for how amazing this show has been and I can't wait for Season 2.
Never cared much about Wolverine! Overhyped if u ask me. But when the movie hit, I grew to like him!

This episode was definitely a banger. I will say that Cable being flippant to Jean grated on my nerves and I would've written it a bit differently.

Each episode just keeps getting better than the last one. I'm loving it!
Yeah, I actually straight up stopped after Onslaught though I think I saw the beginning of OZT though not enough to understand what it was. Between that and Green Lantern I just could not care anymore and I was getting busy with entering the workforce as well.
Not a big Onslaught fan either. When the story first came out, I was ok with an evil personality if Xavier soaked by the act of attacking Magneto. Then, it got convoluted with a whole separate entity combined of darker side of Xavier & Eric. I find it funny that Onslaught is its own entity while writers work so hard to retroactively make Xavier a bad guy (if true, why do they need Onslaught). Best part of Onslauht was the build up, mystery, and revelation. After that, he was a pale imitation of Apocalpse (stretching) & sad cosmic level Magneto (who already exists).
Also was never a fan of Heroes Reborn.
I like the inclusion of celebrated X-men stories and the pacing of how they are being handled. Want more Emma!!!
I remember long ago when I got MVC2 for my PS2 in my teens, I had to explain to my parents why there were two different Wolverines in the select screen and how insane it sounded when Magneto did what he did in the comics storyline.
What were you expecting, black leather? That is a shout to the yellow spandex line in the first live action X-Men movie.

Fatal Attractions is definitely not a storyline I thought I'd be talking about again. Avalon and the Acolytes though, happen to be quite cool. I'm glad DeMayo has chosen to elevate Magneto's perspective before we really get into their philosophical divide.
Only missed opportunity I can think of is the school not being open for the New Mutants, Generation X or students. Emma Frost is around, there's a reason for there to be more students around.
Also with you on not being a fan of Onslaught, but the art in that summer crossover was great.
I'm in my 40's and I jumped up (as best as my body will let me these days) and was hollering like a kid watching this episode!
Onslaught is coming. Bone Claw Wolverine is coming. It’s super cereal right now, and I’m all for it. 😐 Eric telling Chuck to “Shut up!” was hilarious and needed. I might just go and reread Fatal Attractions now. 😊
After seeing tweets from Beau this past week about what's coming I think it will be some time before we get Onslaught. I think the finale will be Legion Quest and we're returning to One Man's Worth to take out Bastion in the past and things go wrong
Kinda feel like DeMayo should've recommended Marvel TV episodes about time loops as homework for the finale to keep it consistent. Lotus Eaters from Cloak & Dagger or As I Have Always Been from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Maybe even Cheat The Gallows from Runaways.
I think a good nod to Onslaught should happened at the end of next weeks episode just the X-men celebrating the win, hopefully getting Logan so medical attention but Xavier sitting by himself for a moment and looking at his reflection then for a brief moment just seeing Erik
Then next season have Xavier slowly start to crumble under the pressure and maybe snapping at President Kelly or another mutants human parents until he finally snaps and becomes Onslaught
Like they should simplify Onslaught as just Magneto’s mind fused with Xavier’s dark side that he has kept repressed for years
They don't have to introduce anything to adapt Onslaught. They already stabilished that the Avengers exist in this universe. Spiderman, Captain America, Hulk and Thor have been teased, there was a Fantastic Four show in the 90's and Spiderman's show made clear that all the heroes exist in the same universe. The only character not introduced yet is Nate Grey, nothing they can't fix in season 2 or ignore it completly. They have everything they need, they could just do it.
Have a huge wolverine fan when I read this the first time. Now what I missed from the episode that the comic head was more of a dialogue between magneto and wolverine before he did it where he mentioned that they always been a kind of unspoken agreement that was broken with backstabbing

I kind of liked the Onslaught arc. The moment in the comics when you see the avengers arrive to help… peeks of them through the smoke around the battlefield… that gave me the same chills as Captain America wielding Thors hammer in Endgame.

Exactly I’m happy lifedeath got right to the point rather than having it drag out. That was an arc that I felt wasn’t necessary to have a full season dedicated to storm getting her powers back and building up her relationship with forge. But maybe like a 3 part episode arc in s2 with wolverine getting his adamantium back and becoming a horseman of death would be cool and much more interesting.
X-Men 97 is killing it !!!!!!

I agree, you don't need to do Onslaught in the exact same way supposed S2 ends with The Scarlet Witch invoking Decimation to kill Onslaught and to prevent another Onslaught from coming into existence, S3 is then about the mutants who still have their powers and the team created to protect them. S3 ends with the birth of Hope leading to Messiah Complex & Second Coming
My thoughts is that we will see Onslaught, but go into an Age of Apocalypse like storyline because Apocalypse showed up in that Arc with the Watcher.
Also, look at Morph, he looks more like his Age of Apocalypse variant and Rogue, if i recall correctly, is in the same color clothing as her Age of Apocalypse variant. Maybe a hint?

When Magneto told X to shut up, I felt it in my bones.
X-Men is a ensemble. Wolverine was one of my favorites. But Storm,Gambit,Rogue, Bishop, and my boy Synch! As I read the comics and Chris Claremont's stories I became a Cyclops fan. Marvel definitely oversaturated Wolverine. I love this series because they are giving the other characters their shine . I agree he will get a storyline similar to Storm's lifedeath arc. I am a little in between with Onslaught the character concept is dope, but I am interested to see what this creative team does with it.

But it is refreshing to see him take a back seat and let some other characters shine.
It was 20 years ago at least, when I bought my first ever X-Men comic book, along with a Vampirella, and Eve Protomecha #1, and it was exactly the number when the real identity of Onslaught was revealed; and it was also when I realized about the big publisher's racket: how they make a plot happen at the same time in multiple books, so you can't get the whole story just by following one comic series, but you have to follow various to get the whole story.
Aside from that, if they weren't hinting that they at least have hopes for a next season in which they could play with the whole Onslaught mess, I have no idea of to what else would they go the way they did.
Yoooo. Mags telling Xavier to *shut up* was so satisfying. I have theories aside from the fact we're getting Onslaught. I think we're getting Phoenix to return. I think the conversation between Jean and Storm on the jet was a little bit of foreshadowing.

They already have Established Onslaiught heroes outside of X-men imo. The show is canon to the other shows and we got Doom cameo and spider man and we know captain America and the avengers are a thing. I feel like they would have to spend S2 building it with Cameos and finish it in S3
Idk how they’ll even reconcile defeating Onslaught since that was very much Avengers centric. Obviously with Cap popping up they exist, but idk… guess we’ll see
0:58 Despite having other episodic writers he was fully entrenched as showrunner for all of S2 and part of S3, so I'm sure he knows all the story beats that inspired the episodes.
I’m an Onslaught fan and I totally understand why people don’t like the character but as a kid Onslaught was my first X-men comic book villain and I only picked the comic up because I thought it looked cool and I’m stoked to see him/it animated and how cool they make the battle look.
The Penultimate Eps. was wild so I expect the Finale to be even more INSANE!
Wolverine is going to be fast AF without all of that extra weight. The adamantium nearly doubled his body weight.
Onslaught was my jam!! I followed all the issues of Age of Onslaught, and X-Men: Onslaught, and Marvel: Onslaught. I hope we do get him, this will be great! This show has been killing it each week! I liked Sunspot rocking the O.G New Mutants attire.
Onslaught was when I stopped too! I switched to indie books after that and didn't come back to X-men fully til Krakoa.

Although I love the possible coming of Onslaught, I'm just more excited that Disney has gotten out of the way and has allowed Marvel to give us an X-Men that we've craved for. All of these intricate details about the costumes, storyline etc doesn't matter to me. I just wanna see some great storytelling and action and so far they have not disappointed

For me, wanting Storm powers back quickly, was due to fear she would get sidelined. Give her big moment at the beginning the slideline her for rest of the season.

Remember you don't actually see Jean die... next episode she powers up with the Phoenix force and beats/saves Cable.
So, I am sure Ep10 was written before the current Weapons of X series, but it would be a funny curveball if Jean survived Cable and was the one to shut down Magneto’s psyche and be that other version of Onslaught (it'd be a way to revisit the dark aspect of the Phoenix since the prior 5 seasons already did the Dark Phoenix Saga).
I wonder if Onslaught will be this series Phoenix saga, but Age of Apocalypse may be that. I'm not sure if it needs to be simplified or they'll drag it out or not. I agree that they're wisely cutting the fat that a lot of comic runs propagate...cuz comics. I smiled when they mentioned the gold and blue teams though. I don't think we'll get to Krakoa, but I hope so. I wanna see Storm truly represented outside of comics, and her relationship with Magneto...especially given recent events. Missed opportunity to release an updated version of the Konami X-Men game given the history. All those gorgeous Capcom sprites left on the cutting room floor too. I know Gambit apparently isn't coming back (cause and effect?), but I would like to see the story of how Sinister curtailed Gambit's powers.

When one Marvel Girl plans to die, a Phoenix was planned by her to rise again. Maybe she might stop the time loop with Cable altogether, in the right point of time.

I am SO with you on Onslaught. He strikes me as having been a plot device to move to the Heroes Reborn line. Which you know.... was a bad move. Heroes Reborn is not widely considered a good move. As a character, Onslaught strikes me as paper thin. A plot device. I don't care about him.

I didn’t mind the retro fit. Not my favorite but it was definitely nostalgic. Brought me back and I definitely love the black Air Force energy reference.
I wonder if they'll bring in Dr. Stasis, Orbis Stellaris, and Mother Righteous to X-Men '97. I wouldn't mind seeing how the Essex Dominion arc translates into animation.
I wonder if they'll use Onslaught to spin off the other 90s cartoon reboots. Have the cameo heroes (Spider-man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, etc) show up for the fight against him and get 'killed' only to return a season later in their own shows.
It would be fun to have Bishop coming late to the party straight from the future and sorting things where Cable failed. Thna bad Cable could go rogue and became Stryfe somehow. if Bishop show up with Rachel or Hope (who i think may be outed as some sort of jeans clone anytime soon in the comics) i will dance naked at the streets on a live stream.
