For you younger fans, THIS is Gambit. The way he was written and portrayed ion teh early 90's, he was on par with Wolverine in bad assery.
Facts. They FINALLY gave him the respect he deserves.
@@blaxpoitation8528more importantly the power. ppl forget the only reason hes not omega level is by choice
@@jacobmoore6874choice? How can he choose to not be omega?
@@theprodigalsun__😅 he went to Mr Sinister & had the equivalent of a lobotomy to dampen his power levels. His energy manipulation has no limits without it.
You always give an insightful, detailed entertaining reaction. 👏
This episode devastated me. When Rogue said "I can't feel you, " the waterworks started.
I have cried from watching a movie or tv series 4 times, I almost added a fifth.
Oh, I was toast long before that... No one is talking about Banshee and Marrow getting vaporized as they were trying to telling everyone to meet at the gardens😭😭
And when the Morlocks think that the X-Men didn't care about them, then Remy came flying thru the window, riding a decapitated Sentinel's head to rescue them?!?
I was a literal puddle on my couch😭😭😭
Got a tear in my eye when Madie recognized her son, my lip started to quiver when Magneto spoke in German and my old ass. ugly cried when Rogue said that.
Yup....
bro...I think anyone who is a fan of the xmen and actually paid attention instead of talking over the scene...you know who yall are youtube influencers smh...felt that shit in their soul.
That was some "Red Wedding" type shit.
It won't be that till we see Gambit's head sown onto Lockheed's body
Red wedding? Nah, this was Hardhome 😂😢
@@batman369able huh? As in, Gambits head was attached to the actual dragon in the comics? Or was this a GoT reference I don't understand because I didn't watch the show? Haha
I likened episode 5 to that, too. It was brilliant. It was a standout episode.
YES!!
Can we talk about how STUNNING the animation was during the attack crisp, clean, and pretty much MOVIE LEVEL with regards to the detail on everything in the artwork
THAT ANIMATION WAS CRAZY!
I was thinking the same thing when I was watching it ….
The people who did the score and sound engineering deserve some kind of award
I've been saying since the first episode that this series is cinematic. Ppl are really missing out because of it being animation. Real marvel fans know tho
Scott said the REAL THING during that interview.
The hint of Scott breaking bad is extremely welcome
Yeah, a prime example of when keeping it real goes wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Cyclops's reckless rhetoric in that interview is what got Genosha touched. 🤷🏾♂️
Probably why he's infatuated with telepathy. He has a hard time hiding the truth.
@@mrbrainchild7637
They were gonna touch Genosha anyway.....
If you're SCURRRED just say that.
@@TheBrothaGrimm u goofee af..lol wtf am I'm scared of? You don't know what they were going to do. Only gooffies flex and run off at the mouth like they ain't "scurred" lol ..real Gs move in silence. Even Magneto understood that.
We gotta acknowledge Lenore Zann's powerful emotion performance during this episode.
This episode is a prime example of why I don’t want Krakoa to end. They have to evolve beyond just getting their butts destroyed over and over again. Evolve the conflicts.
So much facts. I’m so sick of it
I can get behind this
I was wondering, what if there were a subset of mutants living in hiding like Inhumans or Wakandans? Having their own society in hiding at a cost to being cut off from Mutant/Human conflict troubles in the rest of the world or something(maybe it could be derivative, but it was just a thought).
The Krakoa era in my opinion is the best era of X-Men ever. I’ve been reading since 87.
Yeah it was a phenomenal run
Magneto speaking in his native tongue to leech don’t be afraid that ish broke me
Is that what it was?! Thank you! I replayed that part twice because I couldn’t make up what he was saying. Now I know.
One clarification, I think when Scott is saying "better" he means morally better, like, if the X-Men were as morally bankrupt as most of humanity, mutants would already have wiped humanity out. The only reason we're still around is because of Professor X and the X-Men's commitment to defend everyone, mutant or not.
Acceptance is difficult when 2 parties are so different
I cried like I haven't cried in a while. All the trauma of the last few years came pouring out.
Pour one out for Gambit!
Here's to the ragin Cajun and the master of magnetism.

Man’s Downed that wine of glass he ain’t leave none for Gambit
@@6annedno way Magneto is dead
Knew it was going to be a classic when Cyclops popped off on camera. And then Magneto punching the wild Sentinel with a subway train. But how Remy went out: sad but HARD.
Magneto bitch-slapping that sentinel with a subway train was the boss.
2nd watch required a bottle of pinot no glass. I was hurt the whole day. Gambit is EASILY my favorite show and comics. It felt like a real life family member passed. Them tears were flowing heavy. 4.10.24 We Remember 💔
Ain't no fucking way... thus one was gut punch to everyone.....
I had to get bent after this one to ease the pain...
I've been saying it since the episode dropped, but I'll say it again: "I thought X-Men '97 was a little overhyped, especially episode 4, but this episode told me to sit the hell back down. This single episode was better than a lot of movies."
"Gambit see your bet, and raise it"
Oh fckn chills🍻🍻
Even with the appearance of Cable meaning that some of this will likely be undone by time travel it still hit so damn hard. Full kudos to the writers.
I was surprisingly pleased when Ace of Base started playing. It really felt like the 90's
cutting to black before Rouge could finish the line was NAAAAAAASTY work 🤧
that shit was PERFECT. I applauded and cheered while my eyes watered lol
And then the sad outro music...those bastards knew what they were doing lol. Hell of an episode. Hell of an ending.
" Sugar....I can't feel you"😭

What shocked me was the fact we didn't expect to have the extinction event in the final minutes of the happy episode with expensive apples, it caught us off guard, wtf!!!??? The e is for extinction whaaaat. 🤯
I want Gambit to come back as death horsemen of apocalypse
I was like Florida from good times "damn, DAMN, DAAAAAMN!"
😂💀😭
This episode buckled me.
Facts! I was in tears swinging and punching the air like Cuba Gooding Jr. in Boyz in Da Hood! 😢
😭😭😭
This fucking episode buckled me harder than a body shot from Mike Tyson in his prime....

Gambit just earned a spot with Tony Stark in Endgame, Boromir in LOTR, the T-800 from T2, Eddie Munson from Stranger Things, and Russell Case from Independence Day (just to name a few) as earning a good death. Say what you will about that swamp rat, he went out hero.
He might come back as Death.
@@muigokublack6487 Thats not the gambit we know and love
I've seen some people thinking this will all be erased by time travel but I'm not sure. I could easily see Magneto only being assumed dead and Apocalypse bringing Gambit back from the dead as his new horseman.
I legitimately haven't been that in shock from an episode of something since The Red Wedding. Gambit was always one of my absolute favorites. I forgot that i was wearing an Xmen shirt that my wife bought me the other day until i went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and realized when i looked in the mirror that Gambit was sitting right there in the middle of it.
Next thing i know im sobbing into a towel at 1am trying desperately not to wake anyone up. This show is just amazing
The fact that Blerd knows about Ace of Base to that degree, y'all gotta put some respect on his wealth of entertainment knowledge. 💪🏾🔥
No one is giving points for Ace of Base knowledge
I can admit it. Sux to be 40. Lol
@@benparrish672 😂
Factz even I wasn’t expecting to hear Happy Nation before full on massacre. The 90s kid in me was like oh shit. Then stuff started going down I was like OH SHIT
The layers of remembering in this episode are chef's kiss. And using Gambit's sacrifice to make the viewers feel the full weight of the Genosha massacre was a phenomenal decision. Masterfully written episode.
And then the animators come in with all the cameos and hints. Instant classic among all Marevel content.
Lenore Zann found the right words for loss and emoted the hell out of them in the finale of this. A. J. LoCascio also worked some magic within that voice. Week after week it's been pretty great to be an X-Fan and to see more stories come to life through animation.
I still stand by this is great we got Maddie and cable interacting. We never got that during Krakoa
Mags had Leech on him... I'm betting that wiped his X Signature from the Sentinel radar....
I don't think Magneto is actually dead either. I think that Leech just disabled Magneto's powers so the Sentinel wouldn't be able to detect his mutant signature and therefore perceive him as being dead as a result of it's attack.
We also saw that Cable was trying to prevent the tragedy from happening. It's very possible that he will attempt a time travel based solution to the the attack.
Yeah, I had that thought while watching another review. I also agree with others that there's going to be some timey wimey BS. At least they showed us Cable beforehand, instead of pulling it out of nowhere later. Regardless of whether they undo it or not, amazing episode.
He said "not again" definitely gonna get a time change. 😂
That what I thought too.
Tell me why my black ass started cracking up as soon as you started pouring that wine! 😂
Same
So did I lol
Another thing that was destroyed with Genosha is the idea that this was series was aimed at "kids" like the original was
It's aimed for kids. They just didn't specify it was the kids who were watching this in the '90s. 👍🏾
The original wasn't aimed at kids....dude a member died in the first two episodes. Not everything animated is meant for kids
@@dirtandsilkk Being fully serious now, I can attest that back then "aimed at kids" did not mean "shy about the subject of death". Many cartoons had a death portrayed or implied back in the '80s and '90s, but what kept them kid friendly was that they didn't have a hyper violent portrayal of the deaths. It was aimed for the teen demographic mostly, with just enough restraint that younger children could still feel comfortable watching most of it. They styled many things to go over kids heads so they'd just be enamored with the pew pew and one liners. Gallons of blood, violent vaporization and thirst scenes were not part of those first seasons.
@bajansamurai again. Going back to the 60s, many animated series were not meant for kids. The lack of blood and violence were to adhere to the laws of the FCC. Shows like Hunter, A-Team, Knight Rider, New York Undercover, etc all were not meant for children but American TV laws prohibit use of tons of blood and violence. Childhood favorites like Flintstones and Jetsons were never meant for kids from sheer subject matter. Based off The Honeymooners and Dick van Dyke respectfully, these shows were based off real life scenarios like work, bills, raising kids and having them. But because of the fact that they were animated, Americans assumed they were for kids. They even featured the same laugh tracks found in the sitcoms.. so no. X-men were marketed to kids due to American views but were not meant for kids due to subject matter
@@dirtandsilkk That's an oversimplification of what happened back then. All of those shows were aimed at kids by the "protections" described. What made them transcend the limitations was the fact they could keep (or incorporate) adult themes that weren't obvious or cared about by the children too young to understand them. Jetsons, just as one example, had the presence or the kid and staple humanized pet dog to appeal to kids, but it was parent friendly by having the intertwined adult concerns (which comes down to recognizing parents sometimes had to sit through these cartoons anyway). The stigma also was that cartoons of these types were never seen as adult animation either, so no networks were creating them to pull in adult audiences as much as they were taking successful adult live action shows (e.g., A-Team) and extending their life cycle with a younger audience. This is network craft 101.
Im going to keep it real it was perfect that Gambit died saving Morlocks. He was part of the first mutant massacre. His death was poetic. Leech will save Magneto I see it coming. We always forget Leech has a hidden power everyone forgets about. I also see a go back time to save everyone episode with cable. We saw all the events coming in the first episode we just didn't know it was from this episode. Whatever way they go. This has been the so fun waking up to watch X-Men like back in the day.
You know next weeks episode is gonna be about Storm and Forge. Dammit Marvel you got me.
I think storms gonna wrap up here, return home, hear about the fallout…and step up as leader, like she has in comics current run.
Omega level writing this episode ... gotdamn they snapped 😂
perfectly said!!
The dialogue was so great. Every bit.
I think we need to start a petition to get Bow deMayo rehired, right now son‼️💯💪💝🙏
With how the intro has been slightly changing each episode... I wont be be surprised if we dont see Magneto or Gambit in the coming intros... and thats going to sting.
This brought something out in me. I genuinely looked up from my phone in shock at Scott’s breakdown during the interview. I feel hard for the Jean/Madelynn switch (which, considering how the initial switch didn’t fool me, was a shocker)
AND I AM FURIOUS THAT I DIDNT SEE THE GENOSHA ATTACK COMING. IT ALWAYS GOES WRONG FOR GENOSHA. I EVEN APPLAUDED GAMBIT KEEPING HIS GUARD UP EVEN AS I LET MINE DOWN!
When that song started playing, my blood froze. The horrible sense that something was about to happen.
15/10 absolutely the best television I’ve watched since WandaVision
I recognized all the Morlocks... I old
Getting my cane and New Balance shoes right with yours, my friend. Lol
*we* old. We.
They're doing shit that should have been done years ago in the MCU, when this shit becomes live action it's going to melt hearts
literally makes no sense to keep watering down the movies so the children can enjoy it and for toy sales...meanwhile kids today have seen/participated in more gore and violence through video games than the adults experience, AND the adults have the larger collection of toys lol
@@rbz1 Also this is a cartoon and goes harder than the live action.
This episode had me SHOOK.
Black wall Street Massacre energy at the end!😱💐💐R.I.P.💐💐💐
"ITS SO HARD, TO SAY GOODBYE, TO YESTERDAAAAAYYYY!" 🎶🎵
Watch them play that at gambits funeral.
Feels like 2001 New X-Men to me...as soon as I saw the kids playing on Genosha. I knew what was coming and I still cried like I did when I red New X-Men
Oh man, knowing that it was coming must have been Hitchcock levels of agony for you. Wanting to yell at the screen and warn them.
Exactly !!! I didn't think we would see the Genosha this early in the season. I thought for certain we would see the Morlock Massacre and the role Gambit played in it. They also threw me for a spin when they sent Nathan to the future with Bishop instead of Mother Askani .
Bishop gotta get his locs the fast way, the show not gonna do a 4 year time skip for his hair
Leach totally neutralized Magneto's power, which made the wild sentinel disengage. He's alive.
That.... Is a damn good theory, bravo, I'll use that one, good thought fella.
So they survived the blast! That doesn't make sense
@@NeterRafi77 who said they? The sentinel would no longer detect mutants if Leech engages his power, signaling to them that the mutant threat has been eliminated since they would no longer read as mutants, but humans. Sentinels are programmed not to harm humans, and only tracks mutants by their powers. Make more sense? Ever heard of play dead?
Episode confirmed Mags as an omega level threat
Yo this episode was straight up fire it was gorgeous it was beautiful it was shocking it was heartbreaking it was amazing astonishing and absolutely uncanny
I think Leech got freaked out and his powers kicked in while touching Magneto so the metal shield kept them safe and the Sentinel couldn't read him as an omega threat and declared the threat neutralized.
i wanna believe that but the level of power that mega mastermold was putting out was insane😢 that green beam eviscerated 😔
I cant believe I forgot this is when emma gets her diamond form
This is my favorite episode so far. They're either maintaining or getting better with each episode, Bravo to Marvel for this one right here! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This one of the darkest moments in Marvel ever. Short of them showing Knulll drop Eddie off a skyscraper.... RIP to the fallen, Ernie.
Not the Stella Black.... Sip one for the Bayou Bandit 🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥
Cable will bring them back. Respect for Gambit & Magneto.
Watcher was there, so canon event. I think it can't be undone.
That scene was to let us know it can’t be undone.
@@AngryPug76 meant "can't", just a typo. Thanks.
My predictions, Gambit to become D/4 (coded), Magneto lives (leech depowers him temporarily to mask his survival)

This episode reminded me of X-Men’s social commentary on racism in the real world. Watching this made me think of the Tulsa massacre. We seem to have forgotten this critical piece of the X-Men lore. There was great depth in the 80’s and 90’s that has been lost for some reason.
This made me cry. They are my favorite team since forever. I’m glad they give Genosha more of a story. 😢
I watched that episode and cried like a little bih. Ppl don’t put respect on gambits name….. the family I grew up with is falling apart left and right…….
I feel you bro. I was so traumatized by that episode I was like oh my god. Rogue and magneto been banging. Jean is mad at Cyclops for still caring about Madeline prior who he thought was jean. Genosha was blown up by sentinels. Damn bro what's next
I wrote to the writer and told him I’m suing him for emotional abuse
So that's why they fired him ?
I have a meme saying “everyone getting settlement checks from the emotional damage from XMen 97”
Nightcrawler is an old school favorite of mine but when i saw BoomBoom i Yelled out loud lol
Watching at work last night I could not have paused a a more "perfect" spot because as soon as I resumed it went from sunshine and rainbows to chaos in Genosha
If I wasn’t feeling “legitimately” sick, I was so heartbroken, I was tempted to use an an actual sick day after this episode. Wow. I am still heartbroken 😢
Nobody seemed to notice that Madelyne Prior got killed too. We never saw her after that initial blast that she took directly on the balcony after talking to Cable
She was laid down with Sebastian Shaw with her eyes closed so not really confirmed of anything
@@hair4571 Writer confirmed she died.
Its in the comics they changed a few things but it dope !! So of the stuff is based on Onslaught Saga in the comic books series
Exodus being here surprised me a bit.
It’s Bastion!!! He was at the gala!
I'm gonna rewatch every episode because this is the 2nd episode he cameos in.
And we have to sit with this for a fucking week!
"I wasn't expecting any of this 💩 to happen" sums up everything i think we all felt
Watching Magneto holding the mutant child and creating that huge magnetic barrier around him while looking into Rogues eyes, he created a metal barrier around all of them to protect them, watching Magneto telling the child in german "Dont be afraid" then watching the explosion 😢 I'm not sure about any ones else on this channel but, I know its just a cartoon, however, since this episode aired I have not stopped thinking about it, the sacrifices they do for one another is as real as you are going to get.
Yet another episode I’ll be watching 10 or so times until the next week lol.
A lighter note of this episode was Emma insulting Val’s outfit🤣 classic Emma 🤟🏾
Speaking about emma, i think it was HER communicating with scott pretending to be madiline, since she's done that before
"Happy Nation" is such an awesome deep cut. I wonder who on the X-Men '97 production team is the big Ace of Base fan. Oh and I also wore out the Ace of Base "The Sign" cd. So you're not alone my dude.
That last sob she made after she said “I can't feel you” hit hard… and gambit is one of my top 5 favorite characters
The writing alone was amazing
The animation was so on point , when magneto talks to the quiet council, and you see the glass perspire from the heat and ice melting , I was so hooked and amazed I want 20 seasons!!
Magneto's death.... I was genuinely broken. He's my fav, and he got his lick, but FUCK MAN
Secondly, this would have devastated me as a child
No one saw the watcher looking at the party you have to really look for him 😊
Eagle-eyed X-Men fans will notice that the view from the Blackbird's windshield, KNOW that, That's NOT the island of Genoaha, but the exact same image of Krakoa from Johnathan Hickman's HOX/POX. Also, 2 more notable deaths from the episode were Banshee and Marrow as they were flying. They were warning others, and directing them to get to the gardens and we're blasted outta the sky.
One more notable cameo took place, but this was s major character in the comics: ISCA THE UNBEATEN, Genesis' sister, Apocalypse's sister-in-law showed up as well!
i honestly don't care about losing screaming guy and spike girl.
...nice catches!!
Isca?? Wtf
time stamp?
It’s a Game of Thrones Red Wedding moment! EPiC!!!
This episode took me by surprise. Genosha reminded of the Wakandan marketplace in the Black Panther movie. Seeing the very human emotional trysts of Jean, Scott and Madelyne, and Rogue, Magneto and Gambit play out was engaging. Scott having the telepathic emotional affair with Madelyne was crazy. Using the mental bond he has with her and Jean, when it's been so sacred in the comics...wow! The camoes have been bananas! They've been giving Dazzler a lot of shine. I was shocked at the ending. Gambit was bad a$$!
Bro I was absolutely cooked and sobbing this morning...I can't feel you is on the level of on your left. Insane work.
Hands down best episode ever. The bars in this episode from multiple characters alone HIT! Give Beau his flowers in abundance. Oddly enough IMDB credits him along w/ Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for writing the episode. Ummmm...hooooooow? lol
Lil confused. Didn't Gambit get his powers restored back to full potential by a younger sinister? I know with his battle with New Sun his power levels went back to normal but when they indicate normal is that pre-procedure levels or post-procedure levels?
I do have one complaint if any of the episode...possibly said person was fighting on other parts of the island and the ep just focused on Mags, Gambit and Rogue...Exodus was on the island...bro where was yooooooou?! lol
Thanks for vid!
To be honest, I have a theory that the reason the Sentinel said omega level threat eliminated is because as the shield broke leech canceled out magnetos powers that way he wouldn’t die or be refinished by the scanners. I just have a feeling that Leech essentially sacrifice himself for who he saw as his savior, becoming magneto’s savior himself. I could definitely see that weighing on magneto and creating a deeper character arc.
Yeah man .....this one got me, 🍷 for Gambit!
The genuine AHHHHH I made once the credits hit
Are you wearing a Sailor Venus shirt???! I loooove it! Great vid!
As soon as I saw the Watcher in the sky, I SHOULD have known it was about to be a massacre....I should have known. 😢
It's wild because E is for Extinction was the event that got me to walk away from comics
Fall of X did that for me. Lots of parallels between them. I feel like E is for Extinction was Moira's rehearsal dinner for Fall of X, but completely unknown to the readers 😭😭😭
Episode was Awesome... But I think a lot of folks missed the Scott line... "How MANY!?"
I'm seeing the Cyclops who adopts " The Dream by any means necessary" mentality and the X Men start going HARD against every threat to mutantkind.
WOW!!! Great episode, multiple heart breaking moments in this episode. Felt every bit of it. Had to hold tears back. This series has been AWESOME. Several hours later still thinking about it.
Oh man! Been waiting on this reaction. My mans poured a FULL glass. 😂
I can’t wait till storm gets her powers and gives us a display on omega level mutants like magneto did.
