    Getting below lava lakes can be done fairly simply by dropping gravity blocks like gravel there to make a column. Then you can just keep placing a ladder on the pillar to make a way down, or encase the shaft entirely with additional gravity blocks.
    There's a way to NEVER catch fire from the bed explosion. Ofc hiding behind blocks do help (especially if they're more blast resistant like basalt or blackstone/cobble), but if you're standing on a bottom halfslab (made of more resistant block like cobble or nether brick for instance), fire can just never generate there. I'm using this method in my UHC, where taking ANY damage is unwanted. If done properly, you only ever take damage every 2-3 tries.
    I wouldn't recommend using the bed the second time, I think you expose a much bigger surface if you make another branch elsewhere. 😉

    It's also a good idea to carry the material for bed-making in a chest instead of carrying a bunch of beds with you, it's more compact. Also good to put out the fire to see if Debri is hiding below it! Another disadvantage of using TNT over beds is that TNT has a smaller blast radius so it'll expose less potential Ancient Debri with each explosion.

    • @dojelnotmyrealname4018
      @dojelnotmyrealname4018 2 роки тому +6

      It exposes less per blast, but you can create more blasts per second and don't have to put down 25 fires per bed which slows you down even further. Really the main benefit of beds is their cheapness. They're higher power, but more dangerous, and higher upkeep.

    A little tip which works in bedrock but I'm unsure if it acts the same in Java. The shield can straight block a bed explosion so it's only fire damage from lava and fire sources that is a major danger. Shields are extremely cheap to replace and I find it safer than using a block as a safeguard.

    Can confirm, TNT Netherite mining is the most efficient and most fun way to do it. Creeper farms can be made quite simply these days, no complex redstone or tricky layouts required, and sand while sadly not farmable can be easily acquired in larger quantities. Plus, the quartz, gold and blackstone - if you need it for building - are quite valuable byproducts of netherite mining, and even nether rack has its uses. Keep up the good work!

    I usually swap out my boots for a gold equivalent instead of the helmet. Boots have the frost walker / Depth Strider mutual exclusivity and since frost walker provides resistance to magma blocks golden frost walker boots are nice to have in the nether. Plus with leather now being necessary for powdered snow its nice to just have 1 piece of armor to switch around instead of a max of 4 (frost walker, depth strider, gold, leather).
    Didn't realize there was a defense difference till you mentioned it though!

    It's always nice to see people who don't buy into the myth of the bed method being some kind of miracle netherite strat.
    It's good for getting netherite early game(especially if you have some blast protection armour from loot chests lying around) but statistically it's actually worse than just mining in a straight line with a maxed out pickaxe and changing direction anytime you hit a lava or gravel pocket, let alone using tnt, which isn't that expensive if you have a decent gunpowder farm, a good shovel and a desert(or a sand duper for those who don't mind using such devices.)

  • @rmzing
    @rmzing 2 роки тому +2

    I've made a spreadsheet using the formula for damage reduction provided by the Minecraft Wiki. With the set of armor Pixl was wearing at the start of the episode (full diamond with 11 levels of Protection), a hit from a Vindicator in Normal mode (13 base damage) deals a total of 2.4 damage, or 1.2 hearts. With the upgrade to Netherite boots, the damage taken will be... 2.35 points, or 1.175 hearts. However, with a full set of Netherite armor, that damage is reduced to 2.21 points, or 1.105 hearts.
    If these numbers don't seem impressive, that's because they're not. But one has to take into consideration the PvP aspect. Critting with a Sharpness V Netherite Axe has a base strength of 18, a Sharpness V Netherite Sword has 15. That 0.3-0.4 point reduction in damage means a lot in a situation like that. And in singleplayer Survival, that difference can save your life during a raid, and is even more effective if you don't have enchantments at all.
    Let's also not forget that the armor itself is somewhere along the lines of 10-15% more durable, which means a lot more for armor since the Unbreaking enchantment is far less powerful on armor than on tools.
    Knockback Resistance is another thing to consider. To my knowledge, +1 knockback resistance in the current version (1.18.1) means that you have a +10% chance to ignore the knockback from an attack. I recall that it is going to change to reducing the distance you are knocked back by 10% in a future version (I think it's from the Combat Test Snapshots that I heard this), but for now it's a chance to nullify knockback. This mechanic is unique to Netherite Armor in vanilla Minecraft, but has been woven into modded armor sets designed to surpass Netherite in their protective strength.

    just so folks know, if they're considering using the bed method but you're early on in your survival world & don't have the best gear:
    you can use the bed method with just a full set of iron armour (without any blast protection enchants, just with fire protection II enchants on average across the four pieces of armour) & plenty of food. The explosion only does 1 heart of damage each time, and it's the fires that the bed explosion causes, and the occasional lava pocket that might take you by surprise, that do the majority of the damage, but nothing that a fire protection potion or just a stack of cooked meat can't stave off :)

    Realizing that the bed method is significantly more viable on Bedrock Edition because there you automatically block while crouching and can still hit 'use' on the bed. On Java because you have to hit 'use' to block with the shield you can't block why trying to use the bed, massively increasing the risk.
    But on Bedrock using the shield means you don't take any blast damage or durability loss on your armor, making it way more viable, especially since the bed method is very cheap in the early game. I always wondered why a lot of players said the bed method was too risky for them, but now I realize they were probably Java players. It's a pretty consequential parity difference I'm realizing.

    It goes without saying that if you want to find every block of ancient debris in the area where you are mining, you'll need to remove all the material left over from blasting, especially in chunks where blasting alone did not reveal ancient debris. That will leave a completely open and level floor at about level 10 with a ceiling at about level 20 that can be spawn-proofed with slabs. If you have the patience and materials for that, you'll find a few extra blocks of ancient debris, a bunch of additional gold and quartz, and a tremendous amount of netherrack that can be smelted into nether bricks. You can also take advantage of that open space to 'farm' some of the nether mobs, such as ghasts in soul sand valleys, by omitting some of the mob-proofing slabs. It's not the most productive way to get mob drops, but it can work well enough, especially if there's not much open space overhead, until you can build a more efficient farm elsewhere.

    The debate about mining nether gold ore with a Fortune III vs Silk Touch pick comes up a lot, and from what I can tell it's pretty much equivalent. You can get really lucky with Fortune III and have 1 block drop up to 24 nuggets, but on average you'll get 8.8 nuggets per nether gold ore mined. This is slightly less gold than Silk Touch plus smelting, which gives 9 nuggets (or 1 ingot) of gold, but this method also requires fuel and additional time. So just in terms of the gold acquired, you get more with Silk Touch, but it does somewhat depend on what fuel you have available and how much effort is needed to get it.

    I use the bed method but I always place a blast resistant block like Blackstone in front of me and under me. Also be sure to bring plenty of food and make sure your health and food are full before exploding another bed. I place the beds every 7 blocks. TNT is a great way to mine netherite but it's really expensive.

    Usually when I find blackstone veins, I mine out all the blackstone for chance of finding an ancient debris vein, because nether ore veins tend to generate near or in the blackstone veins. This is just based of my experience and I don't know if it's true.

    Today I learnt that netherite equipment is indestructible unless it despawns of course. Also I believe that placing a higher blast resistance blocks such as cobble or even obsidian between the player and the bed should make the process bit safer but I personally prefer the TNT method as well. Great video as always. Thx pix

      Netherite items (dropped on the ground) can still be destroyed by explosions, cactus, or throwing them into the void! The only thing they're immune to is damage from fire or lava. You should still protect them well, since there isn't a renewable way of getting Netherite!

    • @StarNanny
      @StarNanny 2 роки тому +1

      Except cactus….don’t throw netherite gear into a cactus. Such a weird thing…..doesn’t burn in lava but a cactus kills it….smh

      Thank you for answers to my premature comment. Kinda forgotten about few ways how to brake these. And yes it super weird that it brakes on cactus. Also as someone else mentioned below funny enough you can smelt the debris in furnace yet they are resistant to fire and lava.

      @@timohara7717 no no.. not creeper but gunpowder drop is very low from creeper, like about 1-2 only. I also tried staying up at night to kill some and get the gunpowder like that but I could only collect 10-12 gunpowder average. So that's why I wanted a creeper... At least you'd get only gunpowder in the first place and as an added bonus xp farm also... It'd be nice to have one.

    Obviously the guy who actually mined enough debris to get a netherite beacon knows better than I do, but I've always preferred just going down with a couple of picks and mining for the debris. Do the branch, then mine out all the blocks at face height on the sides, then keep going. But that's not about finding all the debris, mostly just the fact that it's the fastest way to just clear some blocks in a large area. I also really like that method because I can get all the quartz and gold ores as I go and probably even a couple of boxes of gravel if I feel like digging that out.

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  2 роки тому +1

      To each their own! Pickaxe is definitely the most straightforward way. TNT is expensive and requires the most travel time. I just think it gets a better 'hit rate' than standard mining does.
