I found NW at 67 years old thanks to a UA-cam random recommendation. These musicians are incredible

Tuomas Holopainen: The Maestro himself, yet so humble. I really wonder if he realizes the true impact that his gift has had upon the world.

I think the same thing all the time. I was a huge Jim Steinman fan. And discovered NW only last year. I often think to myself..."Did they know the impact they have on people's lives"

The moment he reminds us, subtly, we old fans and the band, are aging and won't be here making magic forever, and you're suddenly very saddened at the thought.

Really good interview! The audio is a bit poor, maybe add an external mic / mic pre-amp?

Interesting he mentioned Elvenpath as somewhat distant to his current taste. I've been a fan since 2004 and Elvenpath is one of the songs thats stuck with me, it just finds its way into my mind at the most random times.

I still think that the best albums are Oceanborn and Wishmaster...and the peak show is in concert "From Wishes to Eternity" in 2000 after releasing Wishmaster.

Oceanborn is indeed outstanding. So is Wishmaster. I also love Angels Fall First. :)

_"Hey let's experiment with this I can always study later."_ Isn't it nice how possibilities open up when studying doesn't turn you into a dept slave?

How come? If anything, the orchestra enriched and deepened the Nightwish music even further. I really doubt one could ever create something as mind-blowing as "The Poet and the Pendulum" using only the keyboards and the occasional flute on top of the "mandatory" metal instruments.

incidentally, it's the guitar work that makes that song truly great.

Yeah, that too, but there's so much more to it than that. I mean, take the demo version of it for comparison. All the guitars are there - if I remember it correctly - yet it sounds nothing like the symphonic tapestry of the final version, in terms of emotional impact.

@@MetalPersonJ maybe you should just listen to the guitar tracks
