    Thinking back this explains a lot. I had an eating disorder years back and I lived off of eggs, protein yogurt and half a citrus. I had consistent constipation to the point I literally tore my asshole. Yeah that actually happened. It bled a lot and none of the adults taking care of me at the time wanted to do anything about it so I just dealt with it.

      dairy, in particular pasteurised dairy has been known to play a major part in constipation. not as much as fibre does but still dairy can for some. Also note some of those yogurts will contain weird manmade sugars that can cause the increase of bacteria that may also cause those issues (the same goes with some of the sugars used in ice cream). Carnivores tend to not have constipation except if they do not handle dairy well.

    1:22 - "the food is ground and churned in the stomach where it's made into smaller particles" - I thought that this was done somwhere upward with the teeth.

    • @darkscienceyt
      @darkscienceyt  5 років тому +25

      The teeth for the most part physically breakdown food into smaller pieces. There are some enzymes in your saliva that will breakdown carbohydrates. Mastication (chewing) doesn't convert large proteins and lipids into smaller components...that's what stomach acids are for, and then bile salts and enzymes do the rest in your intestines.

Cutting down on sugar and carbs and eating more fats, especially full fat probiotic yogurt, is what helped me the most. Fibre bulks up your stools making it harder to pass. Not saying fibre isn't beneficial, just that the amount we're told to consume is too much and can actually cause constipation.

      You need a ratio of around 3:1 or 4:1 of insoluble vs soluble fiber. Vegetables, nuts and seeds are very good sources. If you're constipated, add some soluble fiber (e.g. flax seeds). If your stool is too loose, add some insoluble fiber (e.g. chia seeds).
      Try not to exceed 35 grams of fiber per day. 25-30 grams should be enough for most people.
      Be careful íf you previously ate a low-fiber diet. Get your stomach used to fiber slowly by adding a few grams, and then another few grams on the next day, until you can safely eat 25 grams. Always make sure to drink a good amount of water during and after every fiber-rich meal.
      If this doesn't significantly improve your digestion, that means you're doing a few other things wrong. You might be eating too much sugary/starchy food, which in large quantities can cause digestive issues.

      everyone's body is different and you may just need less fiber than the average person, and that's totally okay, but you still should try to get fiber in here and there, from whole plant foods, where and when you can, because not only are they just beneficial in the short term, but have a HUGE effect on longevity.
      people eating whole grains - primarily legumes (beans) - on average live up to a decade longer than those who don't. because at a chemical level, they're repairing tissues in your body that suffer from oxidative damage (which just comes with living - known as our "aging process") with potent phytochemicals, they can slow down aging and reverse disease processes. it's good to get some in, even if it's not a lot! just having small adequate amounts that suit your body personally

    • @darkscienceyt
      @darkscienceyt  2 роки тому +2

      I'm not really sure. Just a little theoretical speculation on my part. People who under go harsh antibiotic treatments that kill off alot of bacteria have to get a fecal transplant. Literally the placement of someone else's feces into your intestine. This is to repopulate the intestines so the good bacteria can grow. My thought is if a patient has to undergo a fecal transplant for that....then my guess is no, you can't repopulate, as the e.coli would be too dominant/numerous. Then again, this is science so ultimately we'd need an experiment or some published studies to really prove this.

    Curious: if you try to eat fibrous foods while still having SIBO, what happens? • @darkscienceyt

      My thought is the bacteria if your SI would probably break it down, and continue to break it down as it passes through your GI tract. If you eat a 100% plant based diet, then you must be artificially supplementing with various things. I am not here to tell you what to do, I honestly don't care... but fair warning. I know all of 2 people who insisted on forcing themselves to eat a vegan diet. 1 is dead, and the other is no longer vegan after hospitalizing himself. It is literally not sustainable without some sort of industrially processed 1st world pill. Meanwhile, you can literally get every single vitamin/mineral/amino acid/fatty acid you need in roughly 2 eggs. Animal products are simply far more nutrient dense than vegetables will ever be.

    • @lordfumblesquid

I get my doctor to test blood levels for all those vitamins as well. Being vegan is only feasible in the modern world and I'm loving the privilege of being able to order supplements delivered to my door so I don't have to eat animal products. Animal products have never really tasted good to me and don't really register as food to me so I'm very happy with my diet. I tried eating eggs from a friend that treats them like pets (doesn't kill them after they stop laying, feeds back most of their eggs to replenish nutrients) and noticed zero difference in mood, memory, concentration, overall health, etc so I stopped.
      I usually recommend people to go half vegan if they can't go full vegan. Just making more plant based choices is better than nothing! Beans are excellent. I spend my life rescuing rats and it just doesn't ethically compute to spend hundreds of dollars on rat vet bills then use other animals for food. I love all animals, not just charismatic domestic pets, so it just makes sense for me. I understand not everyone cares this much about chickens, cows, and pigs.

    The supposed health benefits of fibre have never been proven empirically. These are just assumptions by so called “experts”.
    There is only one controlled study that was ever conducted on fibre, and what they found was the complete opposite of what fibre is meant to do. They found that a 100% of the subjects who cut out fibre experienced less gastrointestinal issues and more bowel movements. This was the complete opposite of those who were on moderate to high fibre diet.
    The study even went on to conclude that too much fibre can actually cause constipation. Mechanically it makes sense. You can’t expect an easy bowel movement when your colon is clogged up with all the waste. It’s like a traffic jam. The more cars you have, the more traffic you will have.
    Fibre is a waste product that our body can’t breakdown. So it essentially just goes right through us.

      I honestly doubt it, fiber is not going to solve your problems. If you have GI issues, you might want to do the exact opposite and eat far fewer plant foods. Fiber + starch + sugar = terrible gut health.

      What the fuck are you on about? Where the fuck are you supposed to get your nutrients from if you just take out all fruits and vegetables from your diet? Wtf?
      I feel like you are in the wrong direction, to have a healthy microbiome you need multiple nutrients and how do you get a flourishing guy microbiome? By eating fruits and vegetables!!!! Now please, tell me your reasoning for infiltrating the comment section with this nonsense with no evidence to provide for it?

    Question. How is it that before Europeans arrived the Inuit survived on a diet of 95% meat and fat from land animals and fish? They had almost no metabolic diseases until the Europeans arrived. They were almost strictly carnivores. And why do you assume that non-fiber eating humans are going to eat sugary, processed food?

    • @lucasmforestier

      the inuit got their nutrients by eating the ENTIRE animal, including the organs. As for the 2nd question, i guess people who dont eat fiber tend to be fat slobs
