The difficulty of flying into Amsterdam Schiphol with frontal conditions, resulting in an approach to minimums. Deeply fulfilling, yet a challenge that took extensive planning and concentration.
That was epic mate well done. If ever there was a flight demoing what you can do with a full IR and plenty of currency! Just coming to the end of my IR(R) out of Elstree, your videos have been really helpful.
Single pilot, single engine IFR is a challenge! Well done mate. I would consider not transmitting at 350' that you see the runway. Its too much distraction, chance that you push a different a switch than the transmit switch and who cares if you see the runway. You are cleared to land.
Awesome video. I take my hat off to you... I did my ppl in 1991 at Rochester EGTO. Ok we never had modern avionics or youtube but like most new PPLs I just flew relatives & friends in perfect CAVOK weather until I lost interest. Your videos are inspiring to any ppl students watching today. Great job
Amsterdam is one of the easiest airports to go IFR to. Radar vectors, no obstacles nor terrain, well lighted and excellent ATC. Dutch efficiency everywhere. The only difficult thing: it is horrible expensive. Try a french LPV with PCL somewhere lost in the fields.
It's not as expensive as other major airports. FRA or PAR are x4 the cost for example. I do want to try more challenging places like Bilbao or something.
Gotta give it to you boys... That took some tripple-seven-size-cojones... Gotta send a nod to Schiphol ATC as well, most places this size aren't all that welcoming to the sub 5,7 ton crowd... So what's next? EGLL?
Haha! It wasn't that intense till we established on the ILS, and you realise you've got to trust the instruments as you hurtle towards the ground. Schiphol are a very professional bunch and accommodate light GA very well.
It’s not 400 ft on the QNH - it’s 400 ft AAL. Height check is best done distance vs height, not height vs distance. E.g “we’re at 1650’ should be 5 miles” not “5 miles should be at 1650’”. If there’s a glide slope issue it might be too late!
Is that because it's an airport below sea level? Thanks for the tip regarding distance vs height. But should it not be altitude as the Jepp refers it to altitude on the range checks
Hi, Thanks for watching. It's the best place for it as I found that having the tablet on my knee was too disorientating during training. The brightness thing is because I removed the filter on the GoPro and the exposure has blown out.
No Schiphol is one of the most understandable airports in the world, there are a couple similar airports for instance dubai is also very concise and clear to understand.

Im a tower controller at Schiphol. Nice to see a video from your side and how you experience such an approach. Hope to talk to you in the future :)
That's awesome 👌 Thanks for all you do. Would be nice to visit the tower one day too.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I really loved your after landing celebration yell! That's exactly how this felt, and I was celebrating with you. Thanks for sharing.

Couldn't agree more! Thank you for the awesome comment 😀 Glad you enjoyed. Don't forget to dream bigger and get an IR.
As an aspiring modular pilot, this was awesome to watch! Nice flying 🤙 IFR at night into Schiphol is very cool 👌
Glad you enjoyed it! It really is a cool sight and was fairly challenging. Good luck with your flying

Good tip. I guess I could PIREP that after vacating rather than on very short finals.
Great piece of airmanship
WOWWW! Minimums at night is tough, well done
It was indeed heart racing stuff. Especially once on the ILS. Thank you for watching
Very impressive.
Thank you very much!

Thank you for the awesome comment. I'm glad you think so. I also hope to inspire people to do it. Are you still flying?
@@TheFlyingVLOG Left the UK in 94, Been in the US for 21..... A little but not enough to keep current.
So you don't fly anymore?
That was an ‘interesting’ approach and landing! 😊 Great video Robbie
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed the approach, as Sir Alex Ferguson used to say. Squeaky bum time.
@@TheFlyingVLOG Aviation, Bloody hell!
Great job guys !
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Brilliant video ….. well done you guys 👍👨✈️✈️
Thank you so much 😀 Glad you enjoyed it.
wow.. good skills
Very kind. Thanks for watching
Amazing video, you deserve more subs!!
I appreciate that! I wish it had happened, as more will get to see my content.
Great Job!!!
Thank you 😊
Good job buddy! 😎
Thanks! 😁 It was tough.

Now do the same approach in IMC, single pilot, in a helicopter, without autopilot into EHAM. Don't ask me how I know ;-)
nice 4K
Glad you enjoyed 😉
It’s not 400 ft on the QNH - it’s 400 ft AAL
Wow fascinating video, loved every second.
Was just wondering how do you get to land at Schipol as a single engine piston?
The do provide GA traffic , yet exspect some crazy high fees of 800 euro or more for handeling :)
You just speak to the handler. It costs about £350/€400 to land and park, incl handling fees.
Glad you enjoyed it.
For this aircraft, about half of that.

Incredible! But i do have to ask... whats the price for landing and handling?
Not as bad as you think but £350/€400. Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow!
Isn't there a better place to fix your EFB? It seems to be bright in your face during the critical phase of the approach?
Hi, Thanks for watching. It's the best place for it as I found that having the tablet on my knee was too disorientating during training. The brightness thing is because I removed the filter on the GoPro and the exposure has blown out.
Great video!
What is the cost landing and parking at Schiphol?
Thank you ✈️😊 It depends on a few factors, the biggest cost is handling unfortunately. More on that in the video and next vlog.
Great video!
What was the landing and handling fee?
Thank you 😊 Roughly £350/€400.
Is it me or are all the AMS ATC really easy to understand?
No Schiphol is one of the most understandable airports in the world, there are a couple similar airports for instance dubai is also very concise and clear to understand.
They are amazing. Listen live on LiveATC.
Very good and smooth RT.
Man I my head would be overloaded with all the talking on the radio... not job for me! thanks for sharing!
I think flying in the London TMA helped a lot. It's a busy airspace and helps with proactive listening. Thank you for watching
How much was handling? 😅
Hey! Thanks for watching. About £350/€400
@@TheFlyingVLOG Damn 😅😅👍
Not bad vs some other airports
