  • Bind this way when you are binding a wall hanging or a "show piece" and want your binding to be "the best". Plus, you aren't going to wash the piece a lot, I use this method. It wears well, lays flatter and has less bulk than double binding does.
Here is the link to the "short" we made of how to tie the two knots shown in this video:
    • How to tie knots for h...
Be sure to trim your quilt evenly - before you start binding. That is always KEY to making a beautiful binding.

What kind of needle do I use? I like applique needles. They glide through!

...that extra iron on the binding, to make the X Marks the Spot... oh my goodness, why have I never thought to do that? This is why I love your channel and videos! You have a thinking out of the box brain...that can figure out all the fabric goodness for us...then we can just watch your videos, and practice what you have already learned to do! Love it! Happy Canada Day! From beautiful Fraser Valley, B.C., Canada!❤

This video would have been great for when I started quilting bavk in the early '80s when there were next to nothing for me to find as information on quilting. I was self-taught and did everything like you, except I used double thread. I feel like my great grandmother must have given me her talents as she was self-taught as well. I love your videos. I wish I could still quilt, financial issue have no longer allowed me to, but i still love watching the videos. I also always hand quilted, I'm just not a fan of machine quilting, which reminds me of a blanket.

I have a binding method with the folded corner clipper that I’ve used for years BUT wish I had know about your ironing method prior. That is genius.

I've never done single-fold binding before, maybe because I haven't made much that would be displayed and not washed. This was a very thorough and plainly explained tutorial. Thanks!

You learn something new every day! I love hand stitching the binding to the back. I use very tiny whip stitches. I do like your method of using a blind stitch, kind of reminds me of a ladder stitch. I hadn’t seen the x marks the spot tip before. Thanks.

Awesome funny how we just keep doing what we were originally taught - this is a great option love to have a use for narrower strips as well

Hand binding holds a happy little place in my heart. It's not used too often by me but it is used when I'm making a quilt full of love for a grandchild.
Thanks for the reasoning behind single and double binding!

Thank you for the "X marks the spot" trick! I've not seen that before and of course, I need to go watch Binding like a Boss (which I go find next!). I have bound many quilts using this method of 1-1/2" strips. For me its a time saver. I do have arthritis, but prefer pins over the clips.

Thank you, great video. What scissors & size scissors were you using when you cut your binding strips after attaching them?

    • @merrymabelmarket

They were a small pair of Gingher. I'm not sure of the size. Smaller obviously. I also love my Kai scissors of a similar size.
