I had a crazy quilt stage quite a few years ago. I even won a second place in the fair with one of them. It was a beautiful piano shawl I made. I even made a king size quilt. It’s one of my favorite quilts I’ve ever made. My sister and I also had a lot of fun, replicating the wedding picture of our great grandparents onto cloth. Then I crazy quilted around it. I did embellish it with hand stitching. She still has it hanging on her wall and that was over 20 years ago.
“Dead” pastels 😂 I didn’t even know I needed to hear that today. Love your work, and that verse on the quilt is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing!
I actually really like the name "Dead Pastels". That is what I plan to use...as it explains it perfectly in my mind. I am loving your use of reclaimed crafts and working them in quilts, etc. It hurts my heart to see all that hard work and time sold at garage sales for usually less than a $. Thanks for showing us beautiful ways to recycle these treasures.
For what it's worth... in art school we called those *sad* colors. My mind is spinning with excitement on how to bring my grandmother's embroidery back to life. Love this. Thank you. ❣
@MerryMabelMarket oh my SAME...."grayed" ....they just feel right. I'm actually starting a NEW project thanks to you....I'm so excited. I really love what u did, and I love scrappy. Plus, I have a granddaughter who needs unlimited bebe blankies in pretty colors...YAY
Oh it is so gorgeous...what a lucky grandbaby... I have always wanted to try this,but...... I just get to nervous lol but watching your video has made me want to give it a go . Thank you very much.....
Wow! Love this. I have oodles of cross stitch from years of that obsession that I can now incorporate into my newest obsession of quilting. Great idea, and thank you so much for all the info. ❤❤
This is just gorgeous! With all the sewing, cutting - turning, It was difficult for me to envision. Honestly the angles thru me. But I have so many finished cross stitch projects 😮, trying your way, will make perfect Christmas gifts!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
So very pretty. Love all the colors you used. I love doing crazy quilting probably more than patterns. And yes, I’ve said my whole life that it’s the journey not the destination. Happy quilting.
You have inspired me! I have so many cross stitch projects that are finished and not sure how to mount them. Now I don't have to. :) I can make wall hangings from some of them. This process is awesome!!!! Thank you sooo much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. This gives me great anxiety! Lol! But I absolutely love it. ❤️ I am going to look for stitch work and give this a try. So out of my box but I know I would enjoy if I gave it a shot! Truly thank you. So glad I came across your channel.
I recently did a QAYG crazy quilt (first time) for my Mom, with a giraffe center panel, cut it on angles to start, just like you did here, and crazy quilted it back up to full panel size again, bordered the panel, then added some large crazy blocks top and bottom, then piano stripes down the sides. I've never done anything like this before and fell in love with the process as I worked that my imagination kicked into high gear ... ended up cutting out florals in tall grasses from some fancy dress netting fabric (don't know the proper term), glue stick basted all the foliage around the giraffe, then stitched it down with invisible thread (ughhh!), then I appliqued some pastel pink and blue sequin butterflies from more fancy fabric, then joined all finished sections by sashing and covering the sashing with lace, then backed with double gauze ... my Lord, what started as a simple "let's try crazy quilting" went full tilt crazy haha. Thank goodness my Mom used to sew and so she realized all the work that went into it as she kept discovering more and more of what was done. She loves it and it's on her bed. 😊
That’s really lovely! Thank you for such a great idea! I have some old cross stitch pieces, I’m now looking at in a whole new way 😉⭐️⭐️⭐️. I think you are right, putting colors together just takes practice and trusting your instincts. Playing with fabrics IS fun!
I have the perfect cross stitch piece to do this with. I had another that I made into a pillow , that is absolutely lovely. I framed it with courthouse steps not crazy quilt but I’m going to steal your idea and make the center like yours! Thanks for the inspiration!♥️👍🤓
Very nice! Precious Moments or Holly Hobbie look? I like the balanced soft colors and the wide frame of white with the large quilting. It really showcases the muted colors and adds vibrancy. If I were a kid I would probably swirl my fingers around the quilted flowers I think your "dead" in reference to grayed colors works. Although I would say for example, look at this beautiful purple fabric anyway. I look better in muted colors rather than Jewel tones.
Fantastic. Love this tutorial. I love scrappy this is just wonderful. I have done several crumb items and this would work with them. Thanks i enjoy no pattern just go for it.
Oh!!! I absolutely adore this! THANK YOU!! I have many of my great grandmother's crochet doilies that somehow I think I can use in something like this for a wLl hanging
It was fun to watch you do your version. I build mine with pairs then 4's, etc. consciously making weird angles as well. (I have a Kaffe urn that someone gave me in their scraps that has been waiting for a use, I may have just found it...)

Your quilt is beautiful! I’ve done this for blocks, but never for the center of a quilt. Thanks for the inspiration!
💜💜💜 so fun and beautiful. I always gravitate towards muted color variations. They seem serene and non-aggressive .
Thank you for sharing. This gives me great anxiety! Lol! But I absolutely love it. ❤️ I am going to look for stitch work and give this a try. So out of my box but I know I would enjoy if I gave it a shot! Truly thank you. So glad I came across your channel.
Have SO MUCH fun going "out of your box". It's a great place to go!!
So very pretty!! I would have never thought to add one of my cross-stitches to a quilt.
Go for it!
