"Fah-king Broodal. That's what I call middle." XD
LMAO watching a video which is 9 years old.
I died when I heard the robot voice say fucking brutal
I owe so much to this video…thanks Ola for helping me start my recording journey! Almost 8 years ago.
Very true. I still love coming back here from time to time.
"Fucking Brutal, that's what I call Metal"
The perfect sound, comes from all knobs turned to max!

"To mick my speaker"
This video is now a classic! (Also, Ola had such a baby face back then)
"hi I'm Matt Daemon." hahahah
I've been looking for videos on how to record distorted guitar, and by far the best i've seen, very informative.
@GOUDIE12 "to let the tubes color the town" :D
I laughed my @ss off at the end: "F*cking Brutal, that's what I call metal."
Gold.
Great Vid.
GREAT video! Simple. Straight to the point. Informative with a touch of comic relief! Nicely done!
I like your "tweaking the EQ to find perfect sound"
just crank everything up- very nice!!
Im new at all this... Id like to see where the wire from the mic is connected to... A PA system?
I can't believe this is 10 yrs old....

Just did it, and love it! Thanks Ola!

Hello, When does the " Move in and live with Ola for life contest end?
Are you sure it's not a fake?
Yes
@pinky5586 You'll be fine with Logic Express. All the plugins I use here are available in the express.
@CLayneFarr I plug it in to the Apogee one as shown in 0:26. That's a soundcard/preamp
Hey thanks for the video, are you doing any other EQ'ing or compressing or are you really only working with those tracks specifically? For instance, what does your master bus look like?
woops, nm, just rewatched and saw your stereo out :)
For EPIC POWER I use 7 guitars in each ear.
Still my fav Ola video. Found it years ago before the coffee.
Hey Ola, I've been your subscriber and watcher for a long time and I've got to say, your vids are just getting better and better (and also really cool and funny). Keep up the great work and have a lot of success in music! Jakub
(btw. I've been to Sweden this summer and I've really loved it there =)
How did you make Matt Damon speak on your video? :O
Love the comment at the end! F%&¤#)# BRUTAL :-D
this is 1st ola video that i watched. still watching until right now
@Greenwithevil check my other tutorial!
Which text-to-speech soft did you use for this tut? :)
It's Matt Damon
text-to-speech???? wtf bro, its Matt Damon voice, he did this video
Ola without a beard is like Ozzy with short hair
@Borges1091 yeah you have to have input monitoring on in your program. So you can monitor the signal without having to record.
4 minute tutorial and I learned more than watching other tutorials. I love you ola
I always thought Matt Damon was kind of a wuss, but he's rockin it here. Who knew? Ha
Can't you just duplicate 2 guitar tracks and then have it be guitar left and guitar right?
what you can do is move the duplicated track to start a few milliseconds after the other, that way it makes a stereo effect. it's not the same as recording 2 guitar tracks but it's a cool effect you can try with a lot of different instrument that have a mono sound
You'll get a volume boost if you duplicate. Playing twice is never exactly and then you'll have a boost on the "body" of the riff rather than an increase in volume.
No, because it will not add depth to the guitar track. Another thing to take into consideration is that the guitar tracks should be recorded with different guitars/pickups/amp so as to not sound too identical.
Just for anybody reading this for the future, duping and panning the same track even delalaying it a little will not fatten up to sound, it'll most likely cancel some the original signal out because of identical wave forms and it'll sound even weaker or you'll get a chorusing effect. No substitute for multiple tracks.
@kevenbelangerharbour don't know to much about what interfaces are good or not. I recently bought a Tascam US122 mkII and I think that sounded awesome!
@neo69hk if you copy the tracks and pan them you'll only get an increase in volume as well as phasing problems.
You don't want completely new strings on the guitar either... Break them in first...
AGPMandavel there's various reasons. Depending on your guitar, you can have tuning issues until the tension system hits steady state.
I also don't like the tone as much. This is subjective and is also probably due to the fact I dial in my tone for the majority of the play time and not just the first hour or so of play time before the strings are broken in.
You should really change strings before a recording project though.
Stephen Avery New strings can be broken in almost immediately by stretching them thoroughly during the string changing process. Even with locking trems, before locking of course. Tune up, stretch or bend your strings like you would while playing, tune stretch tune stretch, and tune. It's also important to add some pull or tension while you are.
Moses Gutierrez well you are first stringing or turning the tuning pegs with the slack on the strings. You want them to wrapped tight around the peg
Not necessarily... Especially if you have a floating floyd rose tremolo bridge. The coating needs to be broken in a little bit to get the usual tone as well, unless you have your tone setup for rand new strings so you have to change your strings every hour of play to get the same tone.
Stephen Avery But you are not supposed to record instantly after you put them, it's a little time after (a week, a few days) having 5 months old strings makes the guitar sound like shit
Hey Matt. Eddie V H always recorded with rusty strings. He never sounded that bad. What gives Matt? X
you are not EVH
Hey Max. Eddie VH always recorded with rusty strings. He never sounded that bad. What gives Max? X
@Sean1547 Logic 9 but that's because that's what I've been using for the last 10 years. If I started of with protools I would probably still be using that.
@noWandthENnnn that's a dynamic shure sm57. I'm using Logic 9 for recording.
@xena778 uhm don't know to many, Ibanez RGA7? at least you can buy one and upgrade the pickups when you get more cash.
Very nice tutorial! You helped me out alot!
Btw, your songs sound great, ( Not just the riffs, your tones kick ass too! )
Keep up the good work!
Greets from Belgium
@ac23AQ when bands record 4 tracks(quadtracking) you usually pan 2 of them 100% left and right. The other two are brought more into the center so say 60-80% panned left and right.
@fazbotguitarguy I think for this one I used a cheap Kodak Z8i camera. I've updated though to a Nikon D7000
I've watched alot on recording guitars but this one of the best thanks Matt Damon..
@xMETALLICAROCKERx With Superior 2.0. A tutorial using Superior 2.0 is coming next week!
Great tutorial man! You always have quality videos.
@Borges1091 but you can controll that with your interface. Just back off the gain on your audio interface and you'll be fine.
Thank you for this awesome video. Simple and to the point.
Thanks a lot man. You made me go out and buy a recording interface, sm57, and now logic pro.
Im not really into your kind of music but I love your gear and mixing tutorials and rewies. Respect man : )
@ModernProductionss If you get noise, get a noise gate and check all cables. Problem solved. I usually put on a noise gate in logic.
@JuulYT As it says in the video. Logic 9. If you meant the video then iMovie HD
@pesciro Yes I own metal foundry as well. I'm probably going to do a preset for that as well.
@ChernobylXChild dude, check any of my other videos, I'm a SM57-addict :D
Thanks! I was looking for this!
@ModernProductionss if you get a lot of noise while playing you're either using WAY to much gain, or have a shielding problem either with your cables or the electronics in your guitar. And the amp is not supposed to buzz, better check it!
@jpstudio21 Apogee One interface.
@Ellinarkkari As it says in the video. Logic 9
hey bro the compressor settings are PERFECT. i screen shot the settings and applied them on the audio suite compressor in Pro tools, and it was perfect. it evened the levels without neutering the tone. thanks bro
Hey Ola! greetings from canada. Man I know this might be way fuckin late but I stumbled upon your channel, man I fuckin love it! I love your playing, your style, just phenomenal dude. New subscriber right here!! I'm already learning new shit thanks!! Looking forward to more vids🤘
Another amazing video Fearedse, thank you, what did you use before you had the apogee 1 and since having it did it make a difference in the quality of your recordings
Thank you Matt!
thx for the tips! i have the same mic, so gaining such a nice sound wont be a problem now
Lol it’s funny I started watching your videos this long ago 10 years ago and it has taken me this long to get recording equipment and now I’m back to the beggining of all the UA-cam recording stuff
@codyysb420 to the Apogee One interface. It's a USB sound card.
Dude awesome video, and I love the narration =D
Awesome and original! Thanks!
Ooooh, metal right here, lovin' it!
Hey, thanks a lot for that video. It's the first of yours that I've seen and I thought it was excellent. It really gave me a more crystallized view in my head of what to head for with my guitar playing. Can't wait to check out your other videos! Fucking Brutal!!!!
THANK YOU! THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH!
great job man bloody entertaining as hell
@fearedse hey would really appreciate that. Your drums sound awesome.
That compressor thing on guitar track really helps a lot man!
@TheMrShiNoDax I don't do that but a common way of doing it is 2 tracks 100% left/right panned and two tracks panned 60% left/right
This vid has helped me so much
Thank's Matt!!! ...
Thx for the tips Man!!! You're a Badass musician!!! Awesome!!!
Hey Very Good Tutorial not just for metal but electric guitars in general!! Also the added comedy is great too!
Dude, Ola, love your stuff, I have your albums and your, Jeff's and Keith's signature packs on jamup. I am finding it hard to get the sound I want exactly with my recordings because I am poor as hell and have no compressor or filter. What were the programs you were using for compression and filtering and can you recommend any good, affordable ones?
Thank you Damon! You are a really metal guy.
Thanks, Matt.
Wow. Quick and awesome. Brutal
greeeat love your channel keep up the good work and stay heavy
2020 here, never gets old
Thank you for this very nice tutorial
At least one guy is really showing the differences between the mic positions
Excellent demonstration! This is the result recording a mesa boogie mark III - 2 guitars using audacity
That was pretty entertaining and it even had some substance too (which is generally hard to find on utube), thanks!!!
@djrewind5 Apogee One
@grazianism Logic 9
"Fucking Brutal" perfect.
Im loving the thick tone your getting
Great tutorial and very entertaining! Your album is great too BTW.
Great tutorial man props!
This was ahead of its time
Awesome stuff mate! I just very recently started learning on how to produce my own tracks so this really came in hand! Just a quick question mate, everybody talks about mixing one of the guitars (i.e. rhythm guitar) which as you pointed out should be panned hard left and hard right, but what happens when we have a second guitarist (not lead) to add to the mix? Should we also record the second guitarist twice (even for the parts where he is doing the same as guitar one) ultimately ending with 4 guitar tracks (Guitar 1 L+R and Guitar 2 L+R) ? Very newbie question I know, but I am just learning! :D
Thanks for making the video, it helps a lot. Which software do you use for recording? answer please :)
