Sweet. I've got the reload box and need to get a grip and start using this function. Sure I use it at the moment for silent cranked recording but after trying to put together an album of 10 tracks over nearly a year (I know! ) the timbre wanders a little and as you learn new stuff the tone changes. Re amping means you can reset all the tones for all the tracks to the same datum making a consistent sound throughout the recording process. Thanks Ola.legend as always.

Great video! Only one thing I'd add! I read on the Fractal Audio wiki that they recommend having a live monitor while tracking your D.I's because the acoustic coupling adds some mids to your signal that makes the final track sound less thin and more natural.

Is there a way to record the direct signal of my amp to begin with, and then use a virtual cab (without re-amping)? Would the signal chain just be: Guitar > Amp (Line Out) > Interface > Computer?

I have a countryman 85 that I usually use for recording DI into my DAW and then use amp sim & cab IR. But I am now trying to record an actual amp and then use an IR on that. I'm very confused if, once the DI has been recorded, can I then use the Countryman to reamp the signal into an amp? Or do I need a whole other box? There is an AMP output on the Countryman but looking online I see only that it is used for DI.
In the manual it seems as though you can plug the instrument or pre-recorded DI into the amp, then use speaker mode to route that sound to a cab. But since I will only be using the signal from the amp direct and then use a cab sim in my DAW, is there a proper way to do this? Can this be done with the COuntryman 85 or do I need to buy a dedicated reamp box? And is there a risk of me blowing up my amp or interface if I do any of this wrong? I've watched a bunch of videos but I am still very confused, please help!

Hey Ola. I'm trying to reamp a snare (wanting to add some effects from my guitar board, mainly compression). I'm Using Logic Pro X and an Apollo twin duo. I'm running a guitar cable out of Apollo line 4 into a pigtronix keymaster reamp box. Out of the pigtronix I'm using xlr cable and back into mic 1 preamp on the Apollo. This is creating an info it feedback loop. I'm doing something wrong but can't quite figure it out.

Does it make any difference whether you use a di box, reamp box or a load box? I want to record the signal of my Orange Micro Dark without a real cab and use the simulated cabs of Torpedo WoS instead, so almost the same signal chain as you're using. I'm not sure which box is required for proper reamping in this case. Please help me out!
so, do you record the dry signal twice like you usually do when not reamping or can you just re record the same one recording twice so you dont play twice

Is there a way to re amp with amp simulation? Instead of having the re amp box going into a real amp. So you can take your DI and apply different amp sims to it?

Im still kind of stuck. I get the concept but my setup is a little different. Im trying to reamp using a podhd400 and a focusrite 2i4 but im getting a feedback loop. I know why too but don't know how to get rid of it. I have a 1/4 going out from my 2i4 to my pod which will distort the channel and then going back into my 2i4s input to record. I'm assuming there is some sort of setting somewhere whether settings in my DAW for my audio interface or creating some sort of send or bus. Any thoughts on this?

what is the best level to record di at? should i have my dis as loud as possible as long as they don't clip? I'm just getting into reamping.

Why not use the di in torpedo reload? Also anyone know how to record di and reamp for torpedo in logic x. I was able to do it protools. But canr figure out routing in logic x.

Hey Ola! How do you deal with latency when you're recording the DI signal with the EZmix amp simulator? It's annoying as hell to hear a delayed sound in the monitors.
You can never eliminate latency. But maybe you can get it down to say 20 ms or less where it's hard to distinguish.
Reduce the buffer rate in your DAW to 4 or 5. It will solve your latency issues. or use Direct monitoring of your Audio Interface.
Line 6 POD has almost no, if any latency.

So.... what's the point of using the iso cabinet when you're already using the Torpedo Reload? I guess the iso cabinet lets you ignore the room acoustics?

Any tips on using multi-mic setup? In modelling I never got out a good sound (imo) just by one, I always have to put a second modelling in parallel, usually with a condenser mic.
I know it's an old coment, but many people usually put one mic in the middle, and another offset from the center of a speaker

same exact thing, just exchange the amplifier with a Pod. On the Axe Fx 2 you can do internal reamping using it as a USB-interface. It's pretty awesome!
Can I reamp guitars(with re amp box) but with no physical speaker cab? Only using a speaker cab simulator software on the computer? Or will something start smoking? Lol
if you want to use a tube amp - no, always have appropriate speakers connected when it's on. But you can use amp's FX Loop to send preamp signal to your audio interface
no you must allways use a cab or a loadbox. othewise your amp will blow away.

The stock amp does not have blue leds and white lines under the buttons.

I think it is not honest, because every Randall someone buys will be DIFFERENT from the one Ola uses.
Man! What's that box you opened with the SM57 inside?! It seems like a "silent reamp box" for in-door kick-ass reamping without bother the entire neighboorhood...awesome, did you build it by yourself?
It's a Randall isolation 4x12 box. Definitely helpful for silent recording. Check randallamplifiers.com for more info

do you calibrate your output reamp signal so that the level coming out matches your normal guitar level? i assume having a signal too high or low would change distortion characterisitcs!!
yes, the cool thing about the reload it that it has a match signal, meaning while you're sending the signal from your audio interface to the reamping chain, you can also connect your guitar in the front of the reload. If you play the guitar at the same time the reload has a level indicator showing if the signal for reamping is to hot or to weak

For some reason I was under the impression that you didn’t need a cab to reamp?
I don't know if I just didn't catch the explanation in the video but I thought he said the reamp box wasn't necessary. Could someone explain to me how I would reamp with just my audio interface and without a reamp box?
Just use an output on your audio interface and go straight out to the amplifier. It can work but depending on the audio interface it might not be optimal.
When I record guitars directly to my souncard "Guitar in", i get a pretty damn high noise ground, so the hush is really loud with high gain distortion.
Would buying a DI box solve this?
This is common for internal sound cards (especially those built into the motherboard). A USB audio interface (something like a Scarlet 2i2) will be crystal clear.
***** I am using Tascam US-100, an external sound card. I also tried Akai AIE Pro - still noise. I tried it with several guitars or cables. The noise is exacly the same even if no guitar is connected.
I moved once, so even changing the house didn't improve anything.
Paulius Mscichauskas it could still be ugly electricity where you live. I bought a Furman power conditioner and it definitely helped out a lot in my studio.
Ouch...Yeah, it sounds like you've got a more serious issue. A cpu's radiation can create a lot of noise on internal sound cards, but if you're getting that much noise on an external card, then something else is going on. Hope you figure out what's going on...

What's the bang for the buck?
Ok. I will have tube head soon, but have no cabinet for it yet. Also I don't have torpedo kind of hardware. So I have guitar, cable, audio interface, PC, and tube amp head. Amp has Line Out, FX Send and FX Return.
Question 1: What is correct chain for recording DI amp signal with further IR use?
Question 2: What is correct chain for Reamping DI guitar signal?
I pretty scare to try something like this with no experience, because I fucked Madonna for this amp head and don't want to destroy it. :)
Question 3: How to remove some noise like sh-h-h-h-h (like a wind) which is I don't know come in from? (it comes when I choose in DAW what input to use on mixer track, even no instrument connected. Both internal sound card and interface give that noise.)
What tube amp is it? Unless it's one of a few exceptions, you could seriously damage the amp if you try to run it without a speaker attached with the correct impedance.

Amp is B-52 ST-100A (if you want to check: www.b-52stealthseries.com/ST100A.html). Can't to spend big money for equipment, so I try to achieve decent quality in any possible way. Better musician>better equipment, I think so.
There is channel (surfacexmusic) on youtube, where one man made some videos with direct recording of B-52 AT-100A.
But I have doubts about to try this way by myself.

Nice amp! Usually, amps that can be run without a speaker connected have a "silent recording" option on the standby switch. Given that I don't see any such thing, I'm fairly sure that your amp NEEDS a speaker/load (with the correct impedance!) connected (the line out doesn't count for this). Otherwise, you'll blow out the output transformer upon switching from "standby" to "on".
Ola already explain that,
To Rec with a DI :
Guitar > DI in (IN LINE, the Jack in) > DI out (XLR) > Audio Interface IN (XLR)
The DI re-adapt the impedance of the guitar signal to go with your audio interface.
I dunno if some DI do JACK/JACK, those i use in studio are JACK/XLR
To Re amp the signal :
You can use something like Guitarig or amplitube or EZmix in your DAW
Or
You routs the track to a physical output of your audio interface and:
Line Output (Audio Interface) > Amp Input ( whatever the one you're using)
And you record with a mic that obviously goes to your audio interface.
Some audio interface already have an impedance adaptater, it's written Hi-Z on your input, that means High Impedance. If yours do that, you don't need a DI.

Ive noticed some amps have a re-amp input these days so you don't have to damage your wallet with a separate re-amp box

Creating a delay and room.
Hopefully someone can answer this, since I asked around and didn't really get a documented opinion. So, is there a way to obtain feed-back ("microphonics") on purpose while reamping? You know, like in the beginning or the end of a song? Has anyone experimented or toyed with that? If so, how? Does that depend on anything? Like gear or distances or setup or whatever?
i wouldn't think so because feedback from a live guitar is coming from the pickups. since you are eliminating the guitar altogether that means no cool drony feedback. The DI can't send a signal back to itself or isn't supposed otherwise the whole DI would feedback, but that just my guess.

Off the top of my head, here's a "minimal" rig:
-A simple interface (like a Scarlet 2i2. $150 new)
-A mic (a SM 57 is $100 new)
-any necessary cables to connect things ($50?)
Step 1: Guitar-> interface (record DI)
Step 2: Interface out -> amp input -> mic -> back to the interface.
You won't get the "direct" signal, but that's not the worst thing in the world.
A reamping box helps, but certainly isn't necessary.
You can do it really cheaply mate.
I re-amped once by using using Audacity (free) to record and the rocksmith xbox guitar-USB cable. Then put the track on my ipod, put it through a mates amp and mic'ed it with the rockband mic!
Quality will be (a lot) worse but you get what you pay for.
Alternatively, you could use software like Guitar Rig 5 to Re-amp.
@@TomNYXL I know this is old but using Guitar Rig, you can basically what record using an amp effect then take them out having only the clean sound then putting the sound through a microfone from your monitors to guitar rig again? Is that it?
