Nice to see an honest mechanic that is concerned about the quality of his work and who is committed to a long lasting repair, not a quickie band-aid repair that will fail the day after the warranty expires.
Great video series, great help, thank you! These motors are not interference engines, btw (3:04). A tip on timing belt replacement I've yet to try is if the old belt is intact, slice it lengthwise, then remove the outer cut half, slip the new belt on until it butts up against the old half. Then remove the old half and you haven't had to fool with lining up timing marks. Esp useful on DOHC belt replacement.
That's a clever trick on leaving half a timing belt on, I'll have to remember that. Any as far as I know, these are not interference engines, though I'm amazed at the number of people who insist that they are.
Good job. Informative and educational especially for people who have never done any cylinder head work. They now know its involved and not a quick and easy job, and why it costs what it does to pay someone else to do the work!
I watched all 4 parts about the Escort cylinder head...I'm doing this on my 95 Escort. Thanks for the postings and I'm hoping mine goes as smooth as your.
Thank you, to answer your question no i did not loose out, i rebuilt this motor many yrs and over 100,000 miles before this valve seat failure, now if it was something i could have prevented then yes i would have regardless of time and miles, its about a 10 hour job plus parts
Great job! Think it's time for the owner to kick in a little money for a steering wheel in better condition, that thing is really worn down. Gotta love those auto seat belts.
great video. But out of curiosity did you lose money on this job? as I remember you saying you had done work on the motor before. Now how much would a job this big cost. If you don't mind me asking. Again thanks for making these videos.
LIKE A BOSS! You are now, the "Escort Whisperer" :) In all seriousness, great videos Will, and your son is hilarious, I always hated the automatic seat belts too!
Great job. You sure know your stuff man. Thanks for the videos. Christ between the work on the cars and doing the video, do you ever find time to relax? LOL.
That's a good one, now i feel the urge to start whispering at escorts lol sir are you ok why are you whispering at my escort lol thanks again man yea he is a trip

on this engine, since you put a timing belt would it matter if you put it top dead center or bottom top dead center?
Awesome work, on the car and on the videos.
