Hey “Renegade Dorks”!! Loved the first episode!!Started riding in 2017 and my first bike was a 2015 CB500X … great bike and awesome to learn on. A year later I picked a 2012 NC700X which was the perfect second bike for me. Way more comfortable and capable for touring and the perfect advanced road skill bike. After riding a Tracer 900 I realized that I needed more power and I’ve been watching Ian, Ben, and now Grace too (BTW a great song by the Tragically Hip) for bike number 3 and I’m convinced the Transalp will be it.
I want to start exploring the thousands of miles of gravel roads in my Central B.C. interior backyard without having two bikes in the parkade. The three of you, Ian included, have convinced me to stick with Honda and get a bike that won’t be too intimidating to learn gravel on, while eating up the miles when touring. Can’t wait for episode two!

Hi Grace, have been considering trying adventure riding at the young age of 74. Sold my street bike about one month ago and just subscribed to your channel to help you reach 100,000 subscribers like The Dork in The Road. Yes I just listened to "The BIGGEST Problem in ADV, Dual Sport, and Moto Camping: Internet Riding Buddies Podcast, Episode 2"; get 'em! The more you and Dork talk about the Transalp the more I am leaning that way. I also was considering the 2024 RE Himalayan and KTM 390 Adventure. Since I am an old "f _ _ t" I am also thinking of the comfort factor. I am 5'9", 32 inch inseam, fit 165lbs. Incidentally your 36" inseam............ are you 7 foot tall? I appreciate the street creds in addition to the off road ability of the Honda; plus them usually being bullet proof (I have owned five) and dealer network.....that will be hard to beat. I guess I might be more of a Grateful Renegade than a Graceful one, lol. Keep doing what you do!

I plan on buying a Trans Alp this spring once things thaw out here in west central Ohio. I was bummed that it didn't come with a little better suspension or cruise control, but since it's throttle-by-wire I can easily install a McCruise or Veridian kit. Why Honda couldn't have offered it as a dealer installed accessory is beyond me, but that's Honda. Otherwise it's exactly what I've been waiting for someone to make for the last 8-10 years. The Aprilia Tuareg 660 and Husqvarna Norden 900 checked all my boxes, but both have questionable long-term durability and parts availability issues that kept me from buying either.

I took a CB500X to the Canadian Rockies. It was terrifying around those semis doing 80mph when I was at the throttle stop at 70-75.

All I've ever owned are Honda's and I have to say I'll stick to Honda. Solid, simple and dependable. Love my 41 year old Honda which still runs like the day it came off the showroom floor and love my 6 year old Honda. It was awesome on the two ORBDR rides I've done.

I love my Trans Alp, I also ride in cold weather, occasionally snow. I'm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and should be snowmobiling but this bike is awesome so I don't miss the snow.

I likewise got caught up with having unrealistic expectations about the Transalp XL750. It's pretty easy to fool yourself about your true skill level when it comes to off pavement riding.
I currently ride a 2022 CB500X and, although I have ambitions to become an advanced off pavement rider, at 53 I think it's fair to say that the odds are against me! I'm 99% sure now that a Transalp XL750 will be my next bike, but I will definitely test ride both a Transalp and a V-Strom 800DE before making that final decision.
But, for at least two more years, I'm going to stick with my CB500X so my skill level rises enough to be worthy of a better ADV bike! If I'd had the luxury of riding dirt bikes in my youth, I would definitely lean towards an Aprilia Tuareg 660 or a Tenere but either of those bikes are too pricey anyways.

I appreciate the podcast. I think it’s funny. I think y’all were very informative on your opinions. However, I’m a 63-year-old rider and lately, I’ve been doing some research and watching a lot of videos on the Touareg 660. I would love to know what your thoughts are both of you on that bike. Looking forward to the next podcast. Good job love to see it. Have a great night and a merry Christmas.

Easy to fix internationally can really vary. I am on a Honda (CRF Rally), and parts are really hit and miss, since most of the developing world get the XRE series bikes, not the CRF so anything specific to the CRF that isn't an XRE part is hard to find. The one thing BMW has going for it, is their dealer network, world wide, stocks parts for the GS bikes, even a Honda dealer you can't guarantee that. I think you both nailed what the Transalp was meant to do, and what it used ot be and that it has a very clear spot in the ADV segement, that I think actually covers a really huge segement of riders. If a lot of riders are really honest about what they want, a lot more of them might land on the Transalp.

Grace, for what you use a Motorcycle for the TA sounds like a winner. I totally understand moving to it from the 500X for the highway clout.
Amongst all the big and mid bore Italian and Euro bikes I’ve ridden the last 20 years. I still love my 500x’s and gravitate towards it. Im a dork who also love’s reliability and economic feasibility. Enjoy your new bike and that Vaca you are currently on. Share more photos ;). Peace!

Great chat dorks. I think that the Transalps biggest competitor should not be the Vstrom or the Tenere. Both are more than 50% off road biased. it's biggest competitor should be the new KTM 790 Adventure. Just like the Transalp, the 790 is designed more for touring, BUT again just like the Transalp it can go anywhere the Tenere can go, just a little slower. PLUS, it comes with a skidplate and has other nice gadgets like cruise control, cornering abs, tubeless tires to name a few. And hence thats why I veered from buying the Transalp in the last minute. I have no idea why Ian didn't include it in his excel comparison. You might say reliability issues now. But the new China made 790, has been prooven AS worthy as the Austrian made by many pros and reviewers. They are all great bikes. Just nitpicking here.

I have a Can-am ryker ace 900 cost is 15k base ... rally is 17k .. but still have reliability issue ... hard to compare to a transalp at 10k with that reliability ... I thing if I would go back to a 2 whell a transalp would interest me ... Alain & Yellow

question for next podcast discussion. When will there be MORE TA's available for purchase? Maybe discuss the supply chain of motorcycles a bit, and what's the lag time to get a new model bike like the TransAlp. I have had a deposit on one since September and still no TA. There must be preferential treatment for dealers based on volume or something? I know where I could pick up two TransAlps but they are half way across the country. Thanks for the discussion and I look forward to listening in on your new Podcast.

Mark - totally get your frustration. Honestly dealers have no control over distribution. Typically (as far as I have been told) they are informed what bikes they are going to get with the new releases and there is very little in their power to determine how many or when.
Keep an eye out. It’s a hot bike and I guarantee there will be more available

i guess i could see it being the "all around bike" like you guys are saying, it should come with cruise standard, i mean why the heck doesn't it, ya'll say its more road oriented soooo why would it not have it....other than that, it seems like a good bike, i mean its a honda....sláinte!
