Silent Battles: Riding For Life
Every veteran has a story.
This short documentary follows the journey of a group of Veterans and Active-Duty military servicemen as they head out on an unforgettable motorcycle expedition: 25 days from Astoria, OR USA to Tuktoyaktuk, NT Canada at the edge of the Arctic Ocean, and then home. While on this expedition, these men share close and intimate stories about the veteran and active-duty suicide epidemic amongst the military community and it’s impact on their lives in hope of bringing awareness and aid to those in need.

On behalf of Veterans Back 40 Adventure, we are so thankful for the tremendous support of Portland Community College. I would like to personally thank my fellow Diesel Service Technology instructors and the VB40 board for their unwavering support of this project.
To my wife Lisa, I am so grateful for you and your commitment to God. You are an example to our daughter, daughter in-law and granddaughters. To my son Jared (SFC U.S. Army) you have shown that it is okay to be a warrior who is willing to share your pain and struggles.

I'm a Coast Guard vet, Elizabeth City Air Station C-130 crewman 73-77. I went through a program for alcohol and drug abuse. It saved my life. I knew some people who checked out of their own accord. What you guys are doing is appreciated
Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for sharing your amazing trip...loved the elephants 😂 keep it on 2
No wonder why you get poison oak at the ranch ! Lol..
Wonderfully produced documentary, thank you for telling the VB40 story! I was lost and feeling miserable for a few years after I got out of the Army, but once I discovered ADV riding, it brought back purpose and meaning into my life. And I think the ADV community is a great thing as well, especially for veterans, for the comradery and the "esprit de corps" as they say.
OH my,umm NICE SHOT
Thanks for sharing.
I work with one of the gents who does a ton of work with this group. He pours his heart and soul into this. It’s truly amazing the love he has for these guys and what they do. I salute you all!!
Great work all!
This production is epic. You did a great job. I after 44 years in law enforcement in CA have seen the same issues in my profession. More officers taking their own lives then KIA. I feel for you, respect you, and am fighting along side you to do whatever we can to reduce this issue. I also have done a fund raiser ride just this past month to the artic ocean with a group of retired officers to raise money for Widows and Orphans Fund and bring awareness to the families of officers that lost their lives either at the hands of others or their own. Thank you for your efforts.
Thank you Grace for this documentary. I also thank God for all who serve, have served and pray for their healing.
As I too have not served, I can’t begin to imagine what you have had to deal with, on and off the battlefield. You are the true heroes of the past, the future and the present. Personally I am wrestling with a work injury and its complications … I am a now a shell of the man I once was. I would be lying if I said I haven’t thought of the alternative on a number of occasions. If not for the love of my wife, I don’t where I would be. I am not a spiritual individual but now finding myself praying that you find your way through what must be the toughest challenges of your lives. Strength and love gentlemen, strength and love. Thank you for your service and god bless you. 💪❤️
Thank you, Brothers!
Thank you! Thank You! ♥
I’m very proud of you Karl!!!!this film was so well done.
Haven't watched this yet but looking forward to it. I'm a 31 year Army vet who tired to ride the Dempster last month, but my son crashed 50K south of Eagle Plains and totaled his bike. Keep looking forward and God bless you all and what you do.
I used to work at a KTM dealer in Warrenton OR. (Astoria) and I got to meet Brady Allen when he stopped by right before this ride.Super nice guy. I am a US ARMY VET. I wish I could have gone on this ride. I didn’t find out about it till about 3 days before hand I have “Embrace the tuk” sticker on my KTM 1090 Adventure R. I have been waiting for this video.
It was a pleasure to meet you, we had you guys work on a couple of our bikes. Thanks for all of your help.
@@MeerkatADV still rocking the MeerkatADV stick on my bike too! Love the videos too!

Thank you all for bringing awareness to this often overlooked or forgotten issue. For the veterans and families of veterans reading this comment, you are loved and valued, and we thank you for your sacrifice and your service.

Thanks for doing this, Grace. It was a pleasure meeting you and getting to know the VB40 crew at GL.
Absolutely wonderful! Beautifully told story and the beginning of another wave for saving the lives of veterans. Everyone of these veterans are hero’s and their greatest contribution of their life of service has now come from their humble confessions in this film. You have just saved many.
Wow, this was so good Grace, well done...so meaningful, US Army here......
I dont know any of you. I never served. I have absolutely no idea what you all are going through and probably never will. I cant stress enough how thankful I am for all of you. This is a problem that isnt getting enough attention. Stay strong. Stay Rad. 🤙🇺🇲
I had the privilege of seeing this at Giant loop. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. Outstanding work Grace!
Seconded!
Grace Amazing work Lady! Very emotional. A beautiful film. This film should win an Emmy Award! 👍👍🌹
You Lady are a true Angel.
👍
My brother, my bike and my black trailer went on this trip. Love that awareness is spreading.
Thanks buddy, huge help.
And we appreciated you lending all three to us!
Wow Grace this is very impactful. My stepdaughter is in the Canadian military and she is a med tech watching the stories from these guys but they are going through what they witnessed is truly impactful thank you very much for bringing this to the attention beautiful scenery love the bike, riding great, camaraderie from these guys you have produced a fabulous documentary, thank you, ride well ride safe
Thanks for telling this story. I appreciate the telling of the perspective from those that are left behind. Way back when, the 82nd had a program where if the division made it 82 days without a suicide or accidental death we would get a 4 day. During my time there we rarely exceeded 10 days, much less 82.
Million thank you's grace for documenting this.
Proud of my baby brother and his big 💜
