    I am so happy for you! I look forward to seeing you build this out and take it on many adventures to come. I would love to hear more about how the ride differs between the TransAlp and the CB500X as you put miles on Gisele and get a feel for her. It'll probably be a couple years before I can finally afford an adventure bike, but I've been strongly leaning toward the CB500X or the CRF300L Rally. First hand experience from women who love to ride is priceless when it comes to those decisions.
    Good luck and enjoy Gisele!

    It's a great bike, mostly a street bike but I suppose it can do some trail riding as well. It's definitely a great bike for long distance riding and camping and stuff, I wouldn't get too far off trail with it as it is liquid cooled and fuel injected, but if you stick to the 70/30 street-trail formula it's a really nice motorcycle.

    When I was a high-school kid in 1969, I took my (bought used) 1966 Honda 305 Dream on a two thousand mile central Mid-Eastern US road tour. I modified the bike by adding a new custom black ribbed wide seat, put short monkey bars on, added a short sissy bar for backpack attachment, and repainted the whole bike, along with my Bell helmet, Candy Apple Red. The Dream had a twin-cylinder 305cc engine with 23 HP @ 7500 RPM and a top speed of around 86 MPH. On my return to Minnesota I had to put up in Indianapolis because of bad storms and heavy rain. The next day I had to get past Chicago so I headed north on I-65 in order to connect to I-94 West > I-294 > I-290 > I-90 > HWY 61 North. Somewhere on I-290, or maybe I-294, I found myself feeling threatened by being surrounded on all four sides by semi's. I can't remember if it was raining or not, but I got through it fine. I don't think any amount of HP can get you out of a situation like that...unless your the Night Rider. Ya just got to keep your eyes center forward. The Dream handled freeway driving just fine. I had no problem around Indianapolis in 1969, but Chicago is best to avoid if possible. At no point on my ride did I ever wonder if it would be cool if there was some type of cruise control. That hand throttle connection is what controls the power! Never Surrender🐼

    Saw you on Ben’s channel, congratulations on your new bike (and less so on your new subscriber [me]). Apparently Honda decided to eschew a water to oil oil cooler by way of the stalactite in the middle of the oil pan. My 21,000 mile Yamaha XSR700 has already broken one pan by kicking a rock up off a paved road. Get a bash guard first order of business. You’re awesome, looking forward to following your adventures.

    I am 100% with you on the cruise issue. I guess it would be nice for a five minute break for my wrist, but long distance use is not safe. I have used the throttle lock before, but could never trust it or myself.

    • @localrouteadv
      @localrouteadv 8 місяців тому +1

      all riding styles are different. After 500 miles making time on a freeway, my wrist becomes so cramped it becomes more dangerous not to use cruise. A similar argument has been made about always wearing your riding gear, but then again sometimes it's 115 degrees and you are slow moving. There are always times when it is nice to have all the tools available. I understand the theory, but it doesn't take every situation into account.

    Hey there, New subscriber here. I like what I’ve seen so far!
    I happen to know a lot about live streaming: You should never monitor a live stream from the same device that is streaming (that’s what was giving you most of those “feedback/echo” issues). You should also not use the same connection to monitor a live stream that the streaming device is using if at all possible (bandwidth runs out quickly).

    The first reviewer to call this bike what it is a "touring bike with light off road capabilities." The Transalp will be difficult to do real ADV riding. Congratulations on the new bike, I'm sure it's going to fit your needs well.

    • @mariner1952

      I disagree. It is certainly not a Dual Sport, but as the owner of a 2016 CB 500X with 17” cast wheels that I keep up with all my buddies who are on BMWs, KTMs, and Husky’s, I would kill for the wheels, suspension, and thrust of the Transalp. I adventure ride with my autistic son on the back , but I stay off single track when two up. I also own a Suzuki DRZ 400S and when I ride it I don’t think any of the “Adventure” models are much more than touring bikes that can handle forest roads.
      Also, the skills I have learned on the DRZ400 is how I can hound my buddies on their more dirt oriented ADV bikes!

  • @mariner1952
    @mariner1952 8 місяців тому

    I posed this question to Dork in the Road, but you are also uniquely positioned to answer. Will the factory Transalp foot pegs retrofit onto the CB500X? I am unhappy with the bolt on plates that most of the aftermarket provides and the eBay options have required modifications. The Africa Twin pegs DO NOT retrofit, but your Transalp 750’s look close!

    • @thegracefulrenegade
      @thegracefulrenegade  8 місяців тому

      I am not sure I haven’t gotten to tearing this bike apart quite yet - is there a reason you’d want those versus an after market foot peg meant to be a little more sturdy and provide more grip?

    • @mariner1952
      @mariner1952 8 місяців тому

      Because an original Honda part will have the full weight of its R&D department behind it. A lot of aftermarket stuff is kind of iffy, most just offering plates that replace the rubber, not an entire peg assembly.

    Everyone on UA-cam is buying the Transalp only because the Suzuki 800DE is sold out everywhere. Ian, Ben both did videos saying they didn’t like the Transalp 10 months ago. Now they bought one…lol and it’s an awesome bike….😅 Realize by the time you buy all the aftermarket kit and install you will spend more and have less then the base model African Twin because Honda planned it that way to protect their sales of the African Twin. Oh forgot to mention the Bluetooth issue…

    • @thegracefulrenegade

      I bought this bike because I’ve wanted one since they were announced last year. Ben and Ian have bike reviews they want to provide for this motorcycle and we had a great time purchasing these the same week and comparing notes.
      I don’t know anything about the Suzuki. Ben is allowed to change his mind. And what we want to spend our money on as far as builds go is up to us.
      If you have a question or want to contribute to the discussion constructively about the Transalp im here for it. But if you want to post presumptions that are incorrect about myself and two of my friends in the industry, please keep your comments to yourself.

    Can you please explain exactly what it is about not being able to turn off ABS on the 500X that has inconvenienced you.

    • @thegracefulrenegade
      @thegracefulrenegade  8 місяців тому +2

      Being able to turn the ABS allows the ability to lock the back tire out with your bike. To a certain degree with slides it gives you more control over the back tire in specific situations on more advanced off road terrain.
      Not having the option to do that simply eliminates another tool in your tool belt for riding. It wasn’t a huge deal for me, but I like having it available

      For me it was an issue on my 2020 500X primarily going down steep, loose, rocky slopes. I would have like to have disabled just the rear but that was not possible. While you do not list your background expertise, a person can out brake ABS. Perhaps watch (search) “Out-braking the ABS myth FortNine Ryan”. You will also notice MotoGP bikes, perhaps the most expensive high tech motorcycles, do not have ABS braking.
      To be safe, would your comment extend to NOT putting a bike in sport or race mode on asphalt either and have full ABS and traction control set at maximum influence at all times?
