Do a episode about your bikes. The ones you loved the most. The ones you would get back into and the ones you would buy money no option.
And the one they would never want to own again. :D
Are we still playing the drinking game?
Pretty sure they've been through each of their bike history in exactly the way you describe at least once
Only ones they currently own, so they can show us around them .
@@A_Dirrty_Bird Yeah, pretty sure I’ve watched enough of these to answer that for them, definitely been covered a few times.
Made me realize that I already have my dream garage for under 20000$
2021 Tenere 700
2009 Ktm 300xcw
1999 Goldwing 1500
😀
Spurge has turned into a grumpy old man and I love it hahaha
Can you guys please invite mike neevesy
yes please!!! excellent suggestion
That would be something
Another fun-fantastic episode. The caveat is: "Do not try this at home. This was performed by professionals on a closed track." Joking aside, ain't it a great time in history to be a motorcyclist!
Spurgeon, an honorable attempt at the pronunciation of Des Plaines... Illinois has this habit of naming their cities after foreign places and terms, but then Midwesternizing the pronunciation because they feel the original is "too hoity-toity."
Des Plaines = dess PLAAYYNZ
Marseilles = mar SAY yullz
Cairo = CAY row
Chicago = da CIT tee
Love all youse guys!!!
I was getting ready to reply pretty much the same..Dez Plainz, i still say Marsay though :)
The city north of O’Hare international airport. I work around that area.
Love the passion on the passing lane problem, Spurg. “It’s illegal!” We’ll ignore that so is driving 10 mph over the speed limit. 😂
There’s a 1995 CB1000 (aka the “Big One”) with 25K miles for sale for $2,500 nearby. I am seriously tempted (assuming it’s not clapped out)
every time you guys do a craigslist episode you gotta pray for inner strength cuz youre about to buy a bike
In the "not the news" segment on billboards advising drivers to not play games on a cellphone while driving. I'm in Australia and recently I've been seeing a significant number of TV ads for cellphone games you can download and play. Some of the games appear to be very similar to casino "slot machines" and are probably a soft form of gambling. There's a strong body of psychological research about addictive habits and how some games have been designed to stimulate certain types of attention addictions to keep people playing the games, especially if they are "pay to play" games. It's not surprising that some people won't be able to leave their phone alone while driving.
Have fun with yer smart/cancer phones...flipper here. Typing on a desktop connected via ethernet. No router, tablets lappers.
Found several VFR Hondas in my area, one is for 800euros, other for 1000euros and another one mint looking for 2400euros. Fun podcast, this is actually my fave game to play by myself :) :)
"Dad do you love me now?" "Rusty Nuts Dunbar" omg, this episode make me laugh out loud a lot
Great morning. Laying around in bed, storms raging in Iowa, and loving the picks. I've got a 22 Himalayan and want a new spoked wheel green 24 Int650.
I was on a Scram 411, and wanted to wait for the Himmy 450 but I ended up switching to a TransAlp 750
Get it the first chance you can. The INT is such a beautiful bike (especially in the Cali Green color) with a genuinely sweetheart of an engine! I have one since October, last year (Sunset Strip version) and it puts a grin on my face every time I take it out for a spin.
Jokes on you, I *do* have all day! 😅
More seriously, tho, alongside Sturgeon, I have an inclination to the bikes around the year I started riding. There’s a handful of them I would like to own eventually. 😊
Spurg just made my day!!! I have been riding that exact same Tiger 1050 in Gold for the last 6 years - it's a real ripper and super comfortable 🙂
Another great podcast! Thanks Gents! So much fun to listen to on a long ride.
Loved this episode! I picked up a 2014 1800 Honda Valkyrie at the beginning of this year and I'm absolutely loving it. Always thought highly of the Goldwing engine and this lighter weight Goldwing is a blast. Also riding a 2020 Honda Fury and that helps satisfy my chopper desires. 74 years old and got my first bike, Honda Trail 90 in 1965.
So glad we had one vintage bike in the mix. I didn't think it would be Spurg. : )
I owned a 2000 BMW R1100 RS, (Sold it in 2008.), and Spurgeon was half right when he said the fuel injection and ABS were ….”horribly reliable” ! 😆. But at the time they were “state of the art”. How far we have come 😉👍.
This summarizes what I do every day
Lol ditto
Interesting concept. I think I would trade my RT for an F3T, Triumph Scrambler, and a MotoGuzzi Griso. Tough call though as there are so many motorcycles that I like and would like to throw a leg over. I haven't read Lances article yet, but Zacks' piece on sidecars was amazing. You guys are great writers as well as great pod hosts. All this distracted driving and the egos of people on the road is why I'm cautiously optimistic about the onset of self driving cars. When did Spurge become so curmudgeonly? Next he is going to trade in Sally the Rally for a Vstrom dad bike lol! Thought for sure Spurges first pick was going to be either the VFR or that Ducati he talked about a few seasons ago. I don't remember the model Ducati but it had the square headlight and he wanted it in yellow. WTF is a baby moon? Spurge go buy the Yamaha, $2,600 is nothing compared to the sentimental value. I'm rather surprised no one went with an SV650 for the budget pick. Uh...Zack I'm at work so I, in fact, do have all day! I still stand with Turbo Bruce! Wait...who let the Cananidadian motorcycle in this contest!? lol Another fine podcast in the books. See you in 2, old sports!
$3500 for an RE Interceptor is a freaking steal! I would buy it in a heartbeat if I could find one here in Sweden at that price. Great show as alwyas guys, keep it up. An episode on your favourite bikes would be cool. Favourites you have owned or biles you want to buy.
Love this type of video. Recently bought an 18 KTM super duke R for $10k. It's in great shape and so much more bike than I thought I'd get with that budget.
BUY MORE MOTORCYCLES!!!
A fine message to impart to the masses!!!
Patrick, come buy one of my bikes. Bring the truck, the beer and the eight grand. We will drink all the beer, I’ll appreciate the truck and then happily send you on your way!
Zack, buddy, you’re so wrong. I’m the first pick ranking. Patrick number one, absolutely. But Spurgeon is far away number two. If you aren’t picking a bike for passion, what’s the point? What practical? Get a refrigerator.
I loved this episode. I started as a kid on a kawasaki G5 100 trailbike but my first street bike was a 1980 yamaha xs special 2 650. I loved that thing. Someday it would be great to find one again. This was fun because i think this is how so many of us buy bikes. I wont take out a loan for a luxury, so its always about what i can afford. Currently driving a 2015 versys 1000. Love that too, but it lacks the nostalgia of that xs 650.
Tuono V4 started in '12 in US.1100 in '16 (US)
Spurgeon is right about them not being especially reliable. Anyone buying one of those V4 1000s should do a valve check immediately and be on those valves religiously, and that's one about six different potential issues you should check out upon pulling it into the garage.
Pretty good deal, though. Especially for a track bike.
ST1300
KLR650 2022 in the Pearl Lava Orange (biggest thing I miss from a drunk guy hitting me, 2nd is a working right ankle)
Royal Enfield Diesel (it was a 200cc bike I think, forget model name)
2003 XRV750 (Africa Twin before it became a 1liter+ heavy bike)
A used CT125 (2023+) or a Used Rebel 300 I wouldn't mind either even though I can buy them both new.
After hearing the rules.. ST1300, aforementioned KLR650, and KLR650 with the Hayes Diesel engine.
The Royal Enfield Bullet would have to come from overseas, and the XRV750 has a carb, if I have to deal with a carb again I may as well deal with glowplugs imo.
four years ago I decided to get back into biking. Thought about buying an Interceptor but the added fees turned me off so I went used. Found a perfect Ducati ST3 for 5K, road it for awhile and traded for a 2013 Bonneville SE. Then I caught Harley fever and bought a clean '96 Evo Dyna for 4500. Like it so much I opened FB marketplace - low and behold one of my bucket list bikes, a 2011 XR1200 for 5K. Turns out it was a little neglected looks wise so I took it home for 4500. Now I have my dream garage, two clean Harleys, for under 14k all said and done.
The 5K price point is an absolute sweet spot. Strangely enough the same I was paying for used VFR's and Bandit's back in the day (1999). fun episode !
There are two Honda VFR1200f's for less than $6K on Cycle Trader. The level of engineering, power, fit and finish is near supercar level. Yes it's a bit odd but a machine of such complexity and quality for that money is insane. This is a machine that should and could live for a hundred years.
I am totally here for Spurgeons yearly passing lane rant. It’s not that hard!
That Yellow BMW R1200S is one of those "Only a face a mother can love" motorcycle. Here is one that costs a lot less, only has 21k miles, and is just as shiny 2003 BMW R1150RS R1150 RS - $4,795 (Colorado Springs)
Go Spurge! The R1200S is an excellent choice. They are a blast to ride and will probably only increase in value. I wish I still had one.
The number of people I see on there phones while driving is depressing.. I don't understand how people can't just wait the 10-20 minutes until they get home to check their phones..
I also definitely think vehicles are getting way to big for the average person. Everyday I see people daily driving big trucks and SUVs to work and my Grom is filling the same role their MASSIVE SUV does.
The number of people who expect immediate responses to test messages and social media stuff is more concerning.
Having to tell grown adults that they are neither my wife nor mother and do not get unrestricted access to my attention is upsetting.
I tried doing this while listening, and let me tell you I am SUPREMELY jealous of your used bike markets. If I wanted three harleys, I could definitely do it here, but if I wanted a variety of bikes it would be rough.
I still have old 1979 Honda CX500, not running now. My son saw it so he got into riding motorcycles now. I now have 2021 Yamaha MT-09 & he has a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja-400.
Have extensive experience with a 2007 R1200S and 2001 Dyna Lowrider sport. Both great bikes to ride. Could say the GS is a touring bike so the best garage is touring, ADV (Off Road), and town bike. Could switch town bike or off road with track bike depending on preference.
I love the premise of this broadcast and hope you do something similar again soon. Perhaps a contest among y'all on the most esoteric and unique rides that are available out there. What do you think, a whole 'nother podcast?
Best garage in show - Patrick!
Best episode ever!
Spurg!!!!! You have to buy that motorcycle don’t let it go!
Great podcast guys, keep up with great work.
I would get
Moto Guzzi V7
BMW 650 GS
Vespa 50
😊😂
Spurg, you should definitely go look at that Yamaha. Looks to be in amazing shape and it'll be nostalgic. Lovely engine.
"Producer Chase, you have created a monster..." You know when I went down the rabbit hole of my midlife crisis known as the "Budget Bucket List of Bikes" I realized how rewarding it was having the ability to just buy any of those bikes I always wanted to try that had bottomed out the depreciation curve.
I never had a GS...I buy a 137,000 R1100GS for the cost of what most people pay in one month for a car payment and insurance.
Never owned anything Italian...2010 Multistrada with a new desmo with belts, new tires (that I like) and sitting in the dealership for 9+ months...heck, that is less than that new Monkey bike.
CX650C for $700....yep, I will take that too.
All but one bike in the list I have bought on this plan I could get my initial purchase right back if I hated it by selling it the next year or parting it out.
I had the first year of that Yamaha Triple in 1976 that cost me $1976.00 (with a free leather jacket ),,(The fueling on that bike was pretty hot ) I loved that bike but traded it in on a 79 R80 that I just loved and miss every day . My favorite of all though was a 1961 R69s .It is the the bike that I miss the most and have the fondest memories of . Incredably comfortable and fit like an old sweater . I wish they still made an Earls fork brought to medernity .... (also I do like modern brakes ) Great picks all .. I would have looked for a /2 BMW that was road worthy Maybe a late V7 and a Yamaha or Honda dirt bike W 250 of CRF300L :)
Love the episode
This is a fun episode
I would love it if you could do this one every season.
Oh the Craigslist game is so so dangerous. Thats why I have 4 bikes in the garage man... I see an old cheap bike with minor issues.... I can't not buy it! Great Pod.
A FAR better episode would have resulted from "You have 20k to add three bikes to your existing garage." so the result wasn't, "I'm gonna basically rebuild what I've already got."
Engine guessing game: That same basic engine was used in early GSXRs, all the non-iconic Katanas, and both the little & big Bandit. Dropping the liter+ engine into a Katana 600 frame is a relatively common swap. Bolts right in, as the cases are the same.
1:22:30 That's not far off for a price. That era, early 2000's, has caught the nostalgia bug. About 6yrs ago I bought my bike, a 2005 Ducati Monster 620 with 10,000 miles, for $3,500. I still get random offers today, 6yrs and over 20,000 miles later, for the same price or more. But I love the thing, and have no intentions of ever letting it go.
Zac, I have the exact same Aprilia (year, colour etc).
Check the gearbox, in particularly, 4th.
Just picked up a clean 2003 RC51 for a little over 5 grand 🥰
All these announced bikes will be sold more quickly now hehe
Back in '06, my new Ducati S2R1000 was dropped by the mechanic doing it's 1000 km first service, so the owner of the dealership loaned me his new R1200S for the 6 weeks we waited for parts to repair my Ducati. That BMW was a pig compared to the Monster...just sayin'...I did have a go on the HP2 Sport in 2008, and liked it almost as much as the Monster.
FB Marktplace is my kryptonite! I am trying to stop at 4 bikes....smh
Yes!
Hah! I'm pretty sure I met the guy who owns that Scrambler 900 a couple weeks ago. Spurge if you come to NC to buy a bike you won't regret it!
Did you see a picture of the Rev Trivia mystery bike? My guess was a bandit 1200 with a fender eliminator. I was off by 50cc, but I know I heard the jank rattle of an Amazon license plate bracket.
Did Spurgeon suddenly become 44% more handsome?
(Good podcast by the way)
Its the glasses
I bought my current 2007 Suzuki DL1000 VStrom w/43k miles on FB Market Place for $2800! Is it my "dream bike"? No, but it's fun and has everything I need here in Western Washington. 👍😀
Patrick, I hope you realize that ALL of the LC8c engines appear to be susceptible to premature wear on camshafts. 790's from 2019 all the way to 890 R's and Nordens through current year have been found to be affected. Honestly I hope Zack covers this topic in more depth because a lot of owners are getting screwed -- Deserves a dedicated video.
$20K, I'd just get one Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak. The depreciation on those has been huge.
I was really thinking Zack Courts was gonna pick a honda grom because of how much $ he had left and his love for scooters and growing up with his put bike. Also how much he just loves to have fun on machines of all size.
Cool, now do a Reliability Rally version!
Stator and/or Reg.Rec. is probably shot on that Aprilia haha
NAILED THE REV TRIVIA.
But I cheated because I used to own one. Mine had an aftermarket exhaust on it though and didn't sound so thin. Definitely an underappreciated bike.
would love a follow up ep about the bikes that you actually ended up buying because of this ep.
Wow. I originally guessed the right trivia bike, but with the second clue, I was thrown off, and chose a different bike.
Funny Spurg brought up the RS. I have a 2017 RS. It is pretty damned good... but LOW re sale or trade value. Its a bike where if you own it, its not worth getting rid of because you can't get the money out of it to buy something better than that lol....
$20K to spend? That's easy! RG500 or RZ500. Bucket list for a guy with 12 all running and plated. '67-89 Yamie two strokes, the rest 21st century ottocycles.
I had the R 1100 S a few years older also yellow, it was a good bike I liked. Then one time I had a VTR1000 super hawk, except a friend had repaired by "updating" front forks to a newer different model bike's and i think it ruined the cohesive handling of the bike, it pogo'd over bumps.
Zac was so funny beating up Spurg! I would have bet he would have bought 3 triumphs! Or 3 KTMs glad to see that Yamaha! lol Spurg had the WORST taste in bikes which cracks me up! He does however loves the SuperHawks. And for me I agree!
DCT Goldwing tour, 90s 1200 Sportster, 50cc scooter.
$20,000 would get me two bikes I’m looking at adding to the garage long term. A reasonably low mileage Multistrada 1260S and a dedicated track bike.
Xr650l, Triumph t120, ktm 350exc-f
Spurge get that Yamaha get it!!
from what I understand, a salvage title for a seemingly un-wrecked bike just means it was stolen and recovered almost 100% of the time
Or light lay over. Oem fairings can total a bike out very quick.
Given that you seem hooked to the used market, can you redo season 2 episode 9 (motorcycles under $3k)? Given the change in the market due to COVID, what will be the new barrier: $3k or $4k? Cheers
Left lane campers are a nightmare. When police pull them over they essentially never know that they were breaking the law and they feel entitled to it and say things like "I was going the speed limit so nobody could have passed my anyhow!".
Ugh.
It's dangerous to drive in the left lane when you are not passing because it means cars passing you spend more time in your blind spot, and because you are clogging up the left lane there are more lane changes happening around you and lane changes are the most common factor in at-speed highway crashes.
Seriously considering a Ducati 848 some really nice ones under $10k.
Re: the distracted driving cell phone thing, i'm told that that is NOT enough reason to pull someone over as in they need to be doing a 2nd thing wrong to initiate a stop. Anyone have experience with this?
That Dyna picture is from '93.
Spoilers for the Rev trivia game.
I don't know why the owner of that Bandit 1250 thinks it's some unicorn that comes from a long line of blocks. GSXR 1100, Bandit 1200 along with his Bandit 1250 is all that block was used for. That's it. That's all.
You can love your bike as much as you want, but don't lie for it. There's PLENTY of bikes out there that have the same engine used for three or more models, even concurrently, unlike his bike.
Early GSXR 750, all the Katanas (well, all the non-early 80's / non 2019 retro reboot ones), the 600 Bandit. These are all the same basic engine as the big ones you listed.
Please play this again, but with the added premise that you have been removed from your current location and set down in a ( randomly or at the selection of another panelists choice) new location. Will the locals think you fit in? Would you care....
Rules seem to be three letter brands you already own or ride all the time.
This episode was a lot of fun. Much, much better than the game show trivia stuff. It was fun because it was relatable. I feel like most (if not all of us) motorcyclists or even car enthusiasts do this kind of skimming through online ads on a regular basis, daydreaming about what vehicles we could potentially purchase.
You have to add 9k more to that list well I have to because of I am in netherlands and bikes are a luxery so more expensive!!
The 1200 bandit is a cousin of the old air oil cooled GSX 1100 engine maybe that’s what he means.
I can’t believe nobody chose the little donkey KLR650
2020 500 excf - $8,000
2006 990 adv - $6,500
2011 530excf sumo - $5,500
Now I just need $20,000 🤣👌
But more realistically not being tied to 3 bikes. I'd get a used 890 R rally, swap the suspension with my 890 S and use what ever money I had left in modifying my S down to 400lbs as I can.
Make the R Rally a street bike, and turn my s into a heavy enduro bike. I already have the 1.6-21/2.15-18 rims and the radegarage gastank on my s
I have a 2014 Aprilia Tuono v4. It has 42,000 miles on it with just regular maintenance. That is the stock seat. I changed mine to a RSV4 rear end. Great bike, but all their concerns are valid. Oil and filters are more expensive.
Spurgeon picks the three most hipster bikes possible, yet still makes fun of hipsters lol.
Very weird seeing my local BMW dealer on HSLS 😅
20 grand? I’d add another 7-8 bikes for sure.
1:30:30 - Initial thought is a 2001 Honda Blackbird
Ok, after second hint i'm going with the Suzuki GSX-S1000
or Honda CB1000R
Did Spurg buy the Yammy?
You guys need a KTM intervention..... creditability hovering well below average. Love the content but I wouldn't want you guys picking out bikes for me.😁😁
I had one of the Yamaha XS750....hot center cylinder , very touchy throttle I'm sorry I passed on the Suzuki GS750.
