i had a original turbo optima, raced it 2 seasons first season with a mechanical speed control. the originals had plain aluminum parts and the shocks were gold, i believe the springs were black. this was my first hobby grade rc car.
I love the old school Kyosho kits.
Happy RCing is universal for both channels. I literally can't turn off until I've heard those words. Cheers Glenn
Haha ok that’ll do for me then 😅👊🏻
Stunning gold and black.
Looks amazing, good build. Right, I'm off shopping!
Great vid and build in the new studio Glenn 👍.
Thanks Sean 😊😊😊
Back in '85 or '86 there was the Optima Gold that had the gold chassis, they made a limited run of 10,000 I think, it was to celebrate the sales of 100,000 Optima's. The standard Optima, Javelin, Turbo Optima, Salute and Optima Pro all had the silver chassis but the gold chassis and other parts were available as options from Option House. FYI (incase you didn't know), the rear motor guard was also an optional upgrade that only came in gold.
Fantastic information my friend 😊😊👊🏻
GSTQ🇬🇧🫅🏼. Lovely looking chassis. Can’t wait to see the changes to the body
Thanks Stephen 🤩👊🏻
Brings back memories. I had a Turbo Optima in the mid-1980's. I found it about 10-years ago in my garage and sold it on eBay as it was missing a few pieces.
Correct, the original gold chassis was an option house upgrade kit you could buy. The main difference of the original Turbo Optima from the Optima/Javelin was the body, Kyosho gold shocks, full ball bearings instead of nylon bushings, low profile wheels and the anti sway bar kit. My Javelin also didn't have the wrap-around motor guard but my Turbo Optima did.
G'day mate wow what a chassis super supreme 👍🔥👍
Thank you 😊
All that glitters is gold
Love it 😊👊🏻
that was my first rc.. powered it with a midmight stock motor with a novak esc,
Fantastic thanks for sharing this with us 🤩👊🏻
Nice, makes me want to get one of those buggys !
Thanks for watching Peter 😊👊🏻
This chassis looks awesome 😎. The gold wheels would look great on it.
Thank you 😊
6:00 gave me anxiety. Glad you fixed it 7:33. RCkicks did the same thing. I just started building mine is why I noticed. 🤞no missing parts.
Great video as always 👍 in june 2019 kyosho did email me this regarding turbo optima kit no 30619 "There was a high percentage of kits that might have been missing a part, so we had to add some supplementary parts to all of the kits as a precaution."
Oh wow thanks for sharing this with us my friend 😎👊🏻
Hobbyroom is looking plush! Not really a Kyosho guy, but damn your new studio is epic!
Thank you 😊
Happy first build in your new house mate!! Happy days!!
Thank you 🥳🥳🥳
i had a mid kit with the same part missing although there was an extra longer one, this is also my first ever experience of a parts mix up in any kit
Oh wow it seems a little more common than I first thought 🤕
Looks great, love it!
Thanks Ruud 😊😊👊🏻
This is my favorite car of all time it’s just so awesome looking and driving. They’re are so many great looking RC buggy’s trucks and street cars.
The Turbo Optima is looking fantastic. One of the best looking buggies ever. 🤩 I've yet to put mine together, hopefully soon. Great video and loving the new hobby room set up! 👍
Thanks buddy 🤩👊🏻
It looks lovely. Love those Kyosho builds. Don't worry we all have dumbarse moments during a build. From memory I had a missing screw or two in a RE-RE Ultima I built recently.
Haha yeah it’s definitely more common than I thought reading through the comments 🙊🙊🙊
One of the best looking cars in kit form! You and Keith need to go get a room (tongue in cheek)..haha Keeping the content alive for sure!
Haha thanks for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
Great Video my friend. I may treat myself to one of those Kyosho kits. My worst fear. Opening up one of my kits and finding missing parts 😬
Oh you definitely should my friend just for the build experience 🤩🤩🤩
Looking forward to the upgrades, massive thanks for the awesome content Glenn! 👍
Thank you Terence 🤩👊🏻
Such a beautiful kit and car.. awesome Glenn 😎🚴🤩👍
Thanks for watching Peter 😎👊🏻
The new studio looks amazing
Thanks buddy I’ve just about got the lighting how I want it now. It took many attempts lol 😂
A great start to the new studio, absolutely beautiful build.
Thanks buddy 😊😊😊
Great build so far, love it 😀
Thanks Andrew 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for sharing. Another great video. Having missing part in a NIB would drive me bat sh@t crazy especially so far into the build.
Haha I was a little frustrated at the time lol 😂
The problem is you obviously think you’ve misplaced it or it’s in a bag you’ve put in the bin 🙊🙊🙊
Beauty build! I always wanted one but still can't afford one! LOL! Keep up the great work mate!
Thanks buddy 😎👊🏻
It was very interesting and I like your humor. I can't wait for the next video.
Thanks for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
Not sure which I prefer the look of, this, or the Ninja. There both gorgeous.
Haha now that is a tough choice 😅👊🏻
Awesome build glen, Kyosho cars are just awesome fun to build. Love the gold on that rc, also your new hobby room looks really cool. Oh and I did watch your move video too👍thanks for sharing.
Fantastic thank you for watching them my friend 🤩👊🏻
Hands down the best RC build I've ever done. Quite a privilege to have had the chance to build fresh from the box. But it is a bream to drive also...it just glides along effortlessly.... really wish I hadn't sold it on. 🙄
Yeah I’ve not driven this but I did my Javelin and I absolutely loved it 😍
I truly prefer the turbo optima over the optima mid. Maybe because it’s one of the ones I remember seeing in the late 80’s in RC car action magazine..
Yeah I totally get that, I’m actually the opposite way round 🤩👊🏻
My 3rd car, I love this, Cheers my Friend!
Hey thank you for watching 🤩👊🏻
I had a Turbo Optima back in the day and you’re right, it had silver chassis parts.
Fantastic thanks for confirming that 😅👊🏻
I've been tempted to get one myself. Beatiful car. Bummer on the suspension pins. Never had that to happen either. That gold is popping.
Thanks Kash 🤩👊🏻
What a fantastic build so far bud. The new desk surface looks great during the shoot. Obviously the new background scenery during the facetime camera just blows the doors off of everything now. Lighting looks spot as well.
Thanks so much my friend 😊😊😊
One of my favorite kits, never built one..
ps the studio looks bloody great!
cheers Glenn, yr doing epic..😃
Gauranga!
Thanks Matt I’m over the moon with it my friend 😊
Way back in the day probably 1988-87 I had an RC10 graphite kit missing parts. I think it was something simple like a body mount post. But having a fleet of RC10 cars was an easy part scoured at my local hobby shop. Have had great luck otherwise since then.
Excellent thanks for sharing this with us my friend 😊👊🏻
An amazing build.... so wish I didn't sell mine 😪 maybe need a replacement 😄
Welcome back Glenn another great video 👍
Thanks buddy 😅😅👊🏻
That's one beautiful chassis, damn....The build quality, looks exceptional and that packaging, was on another level. Too bad about those missing parts, though. New subscriber, here. Good video, man.
AND BTW, that hinge pin hack was a perfect, temporary fix.
Hey 👋🏻
Welcome to the channel my friend 😊😊😊
What a work of art, even without the wheels it looked displayable.Looks very high quality 👌 can't wait for the nxt instalment 💯👍
Thanks Carl 😊👊🏻
It looks fantastic! I have only had one kit I had to wait for parts on and the was my Nova Fox build. The gear set with improperly cast and it stopped the build dead in its tracks as the whole gear box was delayed for a week while I waited for another bag of gears to show up from eBay. Tamiya did send a replacement set to me but that took more than a month! I knew it would so I had already ordered a set!
Oh wow that sucked 🤕
Glad you got it all sorted out in the end 🤩
Lovely Build Glenn 😎👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Can't wait to see what you're going to do with the body.
Haha yeah this was an interesting one, let’s just say everything didn’t quite go to plan as hopefully you’ll see in future videos 🤣👊🏻
It's awesome man...
So are you for watching 😊👊🏻
Looks great
Thank you 😊
I agree that it’s one of the best, if not, the best looking chassis ever. Not the easiest to work on tho.. It also has a great looking body shell too. Too bad you had missing parts in yours, I’ve been lucky with all my Kyosho kits so far.
Yeah I’m sure it’ll be a one off but the car is just 🤩🤩🤩
I’m glad I’m not the only one who appreciates how awesome this buggy looks it’s beautiful really.
Glenn! Brother. Why'd you shell out 17 bucks for Kyosho's error? I wasn't going to mention this but I had a manufacturing error with my turbo optima rere kit I built a few months ago... One of the rails was about 3mm shorter than the other and consequently the holes in the top were off by 3mm. I contacted Kyosho and they sent me out a new rail for free. They asked for the mistake rail back so they could figure out what happened. I wasnt going to mention this because other than this issue the build was beautiful and I was blown away by the quality of the kit. The plastics are far and above better than Tamiya. This was the first Kyosho kit I ever built and was humbled by its quality. I always thought they were over priced but now I get it. You definitely get what you pay for... I wish that error hadn't happened though.
Yeah someone else mentioned that I didn’t know at the time so just jumped on eBay 😅👊🏻
Hi Glenn, you are correct, the turbo optima in the 80s had a silver chassis. There was a option house chassis conversion in gold. After Kyosho had sold 100k optimas they released a celebration gold edition optima. These included the gold chassis kit, sliver OT67 wheels from the Stinger along with OT66 tyres. The rest of the kit was all standard optima including body decals and red shocks.
Did I spot that you had the chassis rails on upside down at first 🤔
Fantastic information as usual David 🤩👊🏻
Oh and yes you spotted one of my mistake lol 😂
Shame about the missing parts, as you say these things happen. Kyosho are usually pretty good at responding. Something about sitting down and building a legendary Kyosho, it's very therapeutic - the engineering quality is superb.
Couldn’t agree more Matt 🤩👊🏻
I agree 100% that chassis is clean , too bad we have to load it up with all the other crap that brings her time life ,
It's a lovely looking thing for sure Glenn, the gold centre underguard does scratch very easily by the way 🙂👍 (I put one on my Javelin)
Yeah luckily I have the new Revive RC undertray so that should help a lot my friend 😅👊🏻
Stunning kit what a beautiful thing but shocked about the missing parts! That has never happen to me but l imagine it does happen from time to time.
This buggy almost deserves a clear shell Glenn with just decals so all that lovely gold shows! But looking forward to what you do with it mate😉👍
Haha yeah I’m pretty sure this was the first time for me 🤕
Thanks as always for watching my friend 😎👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 pleasure as always buddy 👍
Beautiful looking car Glenn when you put it on display have you thought of putting a nice bit of cut mirror under it to show off the underside 😎👌💪🔥🔥🔥
Oh now that’s an interesting idea 😎👊🏻
Missing parts are always disappointing. I remember many years ago my Tamiya Boomerang had a whole parts bag missing, and a duplicate of one of the other ones. Anyway, if you have anything missing, surely wherever you got the kit from should sort it? At least in the UK that;s how it works. Awesome looking chassis, a bit more interesting than the TT01E that I'm currently building ;)
Thanks Barry wait until you see tomorrow’s video my friend 🤩
Valley Parade ⚽
I put one together two months ago and had the same parts missing had to go on eBay and buy some.
Oh really wow this is more common than I first thought 🤕
Is that your first build in the new studio/ workshop Glenn, love the gold ultimate bling
Yeah it was my first build 🥳👊🏻
Tempted to buy one these cars, coupled with the Le Mans motor and speed controller…….
Oh yeah to add that combo to this car would absolutely take it up a level 🤩👊🏻
Awesome Optima! Have you got a new studio? looks like you have a lot more on display. Please can you do a video showing your entire collection.
Hey jump on to my Tamiya Legends channel and watch yesterday’s video my friend 😅👊🏻
凄い
いいなぁ
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
👍
😊😊👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 outta my reach but a stunning looking chassis
👊💪🇬🇧
Thank you 😊
I lost a cpl major races with my kyosho cars due to those ball holders and turnbuckle rods failing . I ended up making my own in the machine shop I worked at , because even the aftermarket replacement parts didn't hold up well . Not too bad in dirt but forget it on carpet .
Fantastic solution to the issue my friend 😊😊😊
Just to add: I've had a couple of issues with my Kyosho Legendary Series buggies. Missing parts, or the wrong part included in the kit, or the wrong screws. 😣 Nothing major, but worth mentioning. Still awesome kits though! 😁
Yeah it’s very frustrating, glad it hasn’t happened to me before 😅😅😅
See you next time
Haha I like that 😅👊🏻
Bummer about missing parts! My Optima mid had a few wrong bearings. Luckily I had the right size in my shop but it was step two. If I didn't have them I'd been really upset!
Wow that sucks 🤕
I got one to build, will be using gold screws from t works and some gold pargu parts with a nip gold kyosho gold motor
Fantastic that motor will look incredible in the car 😍
Lovely chassis in gold. Do I get one having done the javelin? I think it’s got to be added to the list just for the gold shocks 💯
Oh yeah you need one in your collection 😅😅😅
What you refer to "gold" and "silver" here is really just different anodizing of the same aluminium parts right? I really want one of these................ The Optima was the hot thing a couple of years before I had the economy to get into "real" RC cars myself so this is something I've only looked at in the Kyosho catalogue.
Hey there, I have a question... I really want a javelin (I like to bars look) but they're sold out and won't be another production run till next year (I emailed kyosho). I know the optima and the javelin have identical chassis; is the turbo optima convertible to a javelin?
hi glen
are those mci stickers you had made up ?
Yes they are my friend 🤩👊🏻
Odd to see critical parts missing in a Kyosho kit. I can imagine a c-clip or other tiny part, but a suspension axle, and not one but even two?
Yeah I guess it happens 🤕🤷🏼♂️
The old kits didn't come with anti roll bars. I wonder if it would have made a big difference in competition for me. Honestly , these are amazing kits but my Eazy peazy losi kits did much better on the race track .
Haha so true it seems the simplest designs back then are the cars that did the best 😅
Are you going for gold wheels
Yes this was the plan but as you’ll hopefully see over the next couple of videos, things change a lot on this build 🙊🙊😅
The turnbuckle length in the manual is definitely not accurate. I had the same problem and had to readjust.
Oh interesting thanks for sharing this with me 😊👊🏻
I keep Hearing that these kyosho kits are amazing quality. Nice cars bjt They don’t look that special to me . Are they that good? Maybe it because
I don’t have the nostalgia for it like Tamiya .
Yeah I think that’s definitely a good point Mark, I was mainly around Tamiya cars bitd but was also lucky enough through friends to see the Kyosho cars too 😅👊🏻
They called it a gold edition back then, for an anniversary
I am cutting the Lexan shell for this today and not enjoying this part 😆
Oh yeah the front and back tower cut outs are fun my friend 🙊🤯😅
@@RCLegends2022 Exactly! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the shell...just hope it doesn't make me want to re-do mine 😆
I wish I could have one.
I’m sure you’ll get one Brad 👊🏻
My super hotshot had many things missing I had to get.
Oh no 🙈
I wish it was going to be done in box art.lol
Haha hopefully you’ll like what I do with this one. 😎. But I have to be honest it took two attempts my first go just didn’t work 🤕
So when you do your other channel you're going to be on the other side of the desk.
I’m still playing with ideas to be honest 🤔🤷🏼♂️
Allllll that effort to re release a stunning car.... And they used those HORRID front steering knuckles 🙄🙄🙄
I don’t know much about this, are they weak?
@@RCLegends2022 not sure but they look so horrid
I hope you'll run the crap out of it. 😂
Nope 🤣🤣🤣
