Mercedes W210: How To Properly Jump Start

Instructions on how to safely jump start a Mercedes W210 E-Class 1996-2002. Should apply to every model E320, E430, E55 AMG, etc... The instructions for jumping the car through the hood are directly from the owner's manual which I have linked. The instructions are on page 279. Theres also a negative cable disconnect in the rear passenger footwell, if you want to temporarily disconnect battery, without removing seat.

I've always done it through the back seat because I'm always using a battery jump pack and simply reach back and connect the cables from the driver seat and then when the light turns green I turn around, insert key, and start up.

Thanks for this! The diagram in the owner’s manual did not make sense with my E55 - difficult to find the correct perspective. The cover marked with a + sign makes sense but the negative terminal is unmarked.
Can you attach a trickle charger through the hood terminals or it best to attach directly to the battery?

You can attach a trickle charger to those posts. I have one attached to the battery directly with eyelets that attach to the terminals. The connecter hangs out slightly under the seat but it’s easily accessible and not noticeable. I would recommend doing that if you plan to trickle charge it frequently.

I would guess it’s around 300. At it’s current setup it should be matched power wise to a w202 c43 engine. I did get to race one and it kept up. I think stock it was rated at 275

I have a 1996 E320 Mercedes with the same positive terminal under the hood, the only difference it states something like "Warning disconnect Negative before using? Any idea what the warning message means. Also I have a second car, a VW that needs a battery charge, can I use these terminals to jump start my other car? Thank you for your video.
