@Peter Rahill Def. you can usually never go wrong with a honda. I've been riding my naked 500 for 3 years now and have never had an issue, and its a whole load of fun.
I might recommend a different muffler, the standard ones are usually a bit tinny, don't get anything obnoxiously loud tho

Honestly when I was looking for starter Bikes, I was hoping I could do one of those Harley Street 500s or 750s. But sadly they stopped making those. I’m still looking for a starter bike. So far this one looks like my best choice. Now it’s just a matter of money, getting a license, and seeing wether or not my mom will have a coronary over my sudden interest in driving a motorcycle.

It think what makes it so addicting to ride is it’s light and maybe the smoothest bike I have ridden to this day. Just brought the exact model, dropped from an NC 750 to this CMX 500 s.
I agree with everything this guy says.
Reason for the change, at 5"4 and short legged, i struggled with the 750, almost scared on a slippery road.
    This Bike solves the issue.
Only downfall is a small pillion seat with pegs that bring your knees up high.

    Great honest review!
I did a test ride in the same bike model two days ago and completely agree with you. Under 60m/100kms /h is quite smooth and enjoyable, steers very easily and brakes in a dim. Over 60... well not so much. Rear suspension is non existent in bumps (I got a funny seat jump in my first bump at 40m/h) and left foot engine cover is a little to much intrusive.
Perfect bike if you want to start riding in a cruiser.

@Wagner PD Great for your 250cc bike. What I mean with my comment is that this bike is great for cruising around 60mph but over 70mph (and The Rebel can easily reach 90mph) ergonomics are not so friendly.

I have owned my 2017 model since new, and bought it with the notion of riding it purely just for country side riding, and I will say I have enjoyed it very much so that I ended up selling my CB600f. My only gripe was the seat comfort, which I solved by procuring the Mustang Solo seat, and I will say that it's a real improvement over the stock seat.

    • @max_rove

    • @rjlacaillade2519

@@max_rove The new models are definitely an improvement;however, it’s marginal to be honest. I traded my rebel for a Softail Slim, but of course after trading in my Honda my wife wants a Rebel. So we tried out a 2021 left over and to be honest it wasn’t much different in the seating department. The suspension however is definitely an improvement over the 2017.

I've had a fondness for the ol' honda rebel since my very first street bike was an '84 rebel 250. I rode it for several hours with it only firing on one of its cylinders (a spark plug wire wasn't fully seated). I expected it to be pretty slow, and it was while it was only performing as a one cylinder, lol. Once I seated that spark plug wire, wow what a difference. It was still no speed demon by any means, but it was a great beginner bike. I absolutely love the way this generation of rebels look. If mine looked like this, and was a 500, I might have kept it for a second bike.

I own a 8 years old CB 500X and reliable can't eben start to describe it. Its simple, I mver had a single engine problem and while it is well maintained I am not the most meticulous rider of the bunch. It went touring for several hours at 150kph several times, I do push it on the mountains weekly and it never let me down.
So yep, these 500cc engines from Honda are great indeed and plenty enough for light touring and weekend trips but also very comfortable in the city or as an everyday bike.
As a side note I do live in SEA and even in the stupidly hot summer the engine stays pretty cool not burning your legs while riding which is a big issue for many bigger bikes I tried here over the years.

I’m not particularly a fan of choppers but this is actually a very nice looking bike. I also hear there is a 1,000cc version with DCT on the way.

I can't wait to own my own cruiser bike like this one, only thing that doesn't appeal to me is that it's all black, I think I'll get some chrome detailing on mine I like a mix of classic and modern ☺️

I"m getting one for the following reasons: low seat, foot pegs mid range where I can stand up if I wanna ride standing, Honda reliability, perfect overall size and weight, slipper clutch with light pull

A nice review Dan. I just sold my MT-07 to intending to get an MT-09 but I found being all of 5'7'' I didn't feel confident sitting on it and tippy toeing. Not sure whether I'd be disappointed going to a 500 cc bike.....I might wait

Might seem like a silly question, but how did you find the handlebars?
Did it feel like you had to reach for them? Did you find and stress on your shoulders after a while?
Thanks Dan, love your videos. Maybe the Honda Rebel (5th bike) will be the one!

I wonder why Honda has this obsession with reverse LCD?
Maybe it's just on camera but can you tell me if in the sunlight while you are wearing sunglasses you can even see the screen?
Another great video and I am very much attracted to this bike
thanking you in advance for your answer
    thanks for everything

My bro got this Rebel 2020 3 months after I got my CB 650 R last X mas and we’ve been riding and meet ups more frequently
The Rebel is one of the easiest bike to ride, especially for shorter riders or beginners.
My bro improved A LOT from riding the Rebel for 4-5 months compared to riding his older CB / CBR 300
The new assist slipper clutch pull is a heaven when featuring it in traffic for long time.
The only thing I’d change right off stocks are the seats - makes a world of difference

Sat on the 300 version in a Chiang Rai dealer yesterday. Too low for me, feet too far forward. I can imagine it being really uncomfortable. This 500 looks better than the old model. With the seat building up a fair bit and the pegs further back, it would make a good bike. I wish they'd use this engine to make a CB500R. The Rebel 500 is about 5,000 GBP in Thailand.
    Good review.

Loved the idea of the rebel, waited for the 2020 model with the upgrades. Buddy has the 2019 model. He has issues with the twisties as the bike has trouble leaning without scraping. To be expected with this style of of bike. Killed my enthusiasm for it. Cb500x is fantastic though

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  3 роки тому

Have to admit that was something I felt when riding. I didn't scrape but I didn't lean as much due to that concern. Same with all cruisers though.

I’ve been looking at Indian scout bobber sixty’s for my first bike, but seeing this it’s changed my mind a bit. Very good looking bike and like half the price of the Indian. I do have the thought in the back of my mind of will I get bored of it too quickly though, whereas I don’t feel that way with the scout…
