I know what it means to lose a wonderful husband and then suddenly be in financial straits. I’m glad she found an answer to her living situation and that she has such a great rig.
When she said she "didn't have enough life insurance" and she must not have had mortgage life insurance so the house was paid off, I felt sorry for her. My mother's first husband was murdered and she had no life insurance on him back in 1942, so she had a terrible time until she married my father whose wife had died from diabetes. She always told me to have Life Insurance, since you never know.
I don’t have a UA-cam channel as I am afraid of putting my life on the internet. In January I bought 123 acres in Virginia and I’m camping on it. Life goes on lol! Happy travels!
A "Flying Spaghetti Monster" decal on her fridge! :-) Glad to know that Laurie is surviving, and thriving. Life can be a real kick in the guts, sometimes. Very nice rig.
What an amazing video! Thank you so much for interviewing her, Bob. And thank you to everyone in the comments as well. I'm not as familiar with van-life, but it means so much to me that mom is able to share her passion and her story with you all. It's crazy to think about how she used to show me these videos when I was a kid. Now she's in one, and in her dream rig no less!! :D It hasn't been the easiest journey, but I'm so proud of how far she's come. ❤️
Thank You for sharing your strong and wonderful Mom! I was with my first wife through our battle with her cancer and it is friends that still get me through each day. Please pass on my condolences, my Laurel will always be my "Better 3/4"! A safe and beautiful home for a fellow former OTRer, I always admire the woman that drive for following dreams and proving their strength. Thank You Miss Laurie, may God's Blessings always find you with rubber side down. With Respect, You and your Mom are in my prayers Hoka Hey
Congratulations on 600k subscribers. Bob you deserve all the good things that come your way! You are one of the most genuine and honest people I know! It is a honor to call you a friend!
Cheers to these strong, valid individuals. You are incredibly inspiring. As I am facing homelessness with my two dogs in October, I have a small SUV and trying to figure things out. These videos are very helpful in many ways! Thank you very much for helping me keep a real perspective as well as be inspired.
One of your biggest problems will be keeping your dogs cool. If you can find a spot to park that has electricity, you can mount a small window a/c and fix that problem, everything else will be easy peasy. A foam pad on top of a plywood topped frame that will give you a bed and storage. A high quality sleeping bag for winter. A high quality cooler and ice for product, eggs and etc. A bucket of some kind to use as a toilet. A camper stove, pots, pans and cooking utensils. You may get some ideas from another UA-camr. Watch Jonathan Yentch. He has a great setup in the back of a pickup.
my husband got Cancer,we found out November 30,2017. Pancreatic Cancer & he passed away on April 7,2018. My mom passed away March 10 2018 less than a month before my husband.Anyways, just wanted to say I know first hand. I am also totally disabled & finally now I have SSDI even though it isn't enough to have a place to live at least I have something.
What a fabulous RV. Thank you for sharing Lori. I bought a 2000 Chinook and got a 4 x 4 conversion w/6 inch lift and I LOVE it. Retiring this year and plan to live on the road full time. Good times.
Hi! May I ask how much you paid for your 2000 Chinook? My apartment is packed up and I’m ready to live in something mobile, but just curious what I should expect to pay. Thank you!
Thats a fantastic rig, Laurie! every chinook I see is in pretty sad shape and the last thing I need is another project. Also Im a bit too big for them. props for the FSM logo on the freezer
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been enjoying my 01 Chinook for 16 years now, and I just decided to go full time. Life is GREAT !!! p.s. other than solar my rig is stock & original
A V10... Whoo hoo... 12 mpg tops 😳 Almost double of that semi she drove though... Go anywhere is the key to happiness in nature and self contained luxurious comfort while your doing that...
What a lovely, inspiring woman she is! Her Travel Cabin base vehicle is truly an expedition grade vehicle with those specifications, and its absolutely perfect to put a high quality camper module onto! It is literally the very best of the best! Thank you for sharing this great person and her wonderful Travel Cabin.
Very sorry for your loss. I razor shave my head in Honor of 62 people in my life circles that have had or has cancer or leukemia. 33 died. Thank you for sharing your story. You got this! Life is too short to sit still. I'm a solo empty nester, full time RV Nomad est January 13, 2019. Keep a journal in your Chinook. Write out your new life chapter. There are Sooo many people need to see and hear your story. 😉
Thank you for your kind words. I bought land in Virginia and I’m a little afraid of putting my life on the internet. Do you have a UA-cam channel? Happy travels.
Fantastic rig! Never seen one before. Glad she was able to find it and make the best out of a terrible situation. As she says (and Bob can see through his green eyes 😉) there’s nothing to want for with that set up. I’m sure there’s room to fit a small oven in if she picks one out for dimensions and mentions it to her carpenter. Maybe a half size lift up flap on that dining table would work - just enough for extra surface area but still able to get your legs past when it’s folded down. 👍🏻
I bake pies in an electric frying pan. I haven't tried using a large pot with a lid or a cast iron dutch oven on a electric stove burner or a gas stove burner, but I think the results will be quite good.
What a great house on wheels. Its a sad state of affairs that when someone decides to go into business to create something of superior quality that they have to compete with corporate thieves who steal their ideas and then sell mass produced inferior quality knock offs. RIP Chinook.🙏
God Bless this strong woman. My heart goes out to her. Growing up my family had a similar Chinook but smaller. It was from Toyota. We got is used. It was full of old horse saddles, hornet nests, dead birds and just a mess, but it sure did clean up nice! Loved that thing!
What a nice story. Sorry for Laurie's loss. But she is living the life that I'm sure her husband would want her to live. Her Chinook Baja is awesome. Thanks you for sharing this story. My wife and I are close to the same adventure. Been RVing since June of 2003. Thanks Bob. Take care, EM.
Looks like a nice rig Laurie. For all of you folks watching don't forget to pledge $1 a month to HOWA, it's less than a cup of coffee. Keep the good stuff coming Bob.
Chinook, Born Free, Coach House and Holiday Rambler were all high quality. I had a Holiday Rambler Augusta 235S that was great. Aluminum framed. May the FSM be with you!
Lazy Daze just shutdown their factory In California A wonderful 50 plus year family run rv manufacturer. We drive a 2000 rear bath 26 foot and love it. The quality like Chinook really stands out.
A home is a not a home without a doggo and she has two beautiful doggos and therefore has a super home on wheels !!! So wonderfully compact with everything one needs on the road !!! She is a lovely soul !!! Wish them all a beautiful and safe journey ahead !!! 🚌🐾🐕🏡🐾🐕🦺👍🤍
Definitely surprised at how few views of both interior and exterior amenities were shown in this video. Bob seemed at a loss for words with this viewing. Overall, a bit disappointing 😕
She seemed like we were invading her privacy and Bob didn't want to push her... I mean, That's alright... Been nice to really see the setup and the capabilities of it... Approx., Price paid and mileage would have been helpful to us too...
I think you should add Coach House as another manufacturer that makes a high quality, reliable rig. Seamless fiberglass shell on Ford or Mercedes chassis although I don't think they offer a four wheel drive option. I own a 2013, Platinum 261XL (27 ft., Ford V10) and can attest to its quality. Lived in it full time for six months while our house was built and only problem was a water leak where the cab joined the shell at the windshield. Easily sealed with RTV and hasn't leaked since.
Gosh Bob, if you ever get a second chance to tour her wonderful rig, could you ask how much she paid? Could you do a much more detailed tour, exterior and interior? I was left with so many questions….no detail, everything was glossed over. It sure is an awesome rig. I’ll just research it online 🤗. Thanks for posting this and pointing me in the right direction!
Excellent rig and great interview! I wanted to say THANK YOU BOB for everything you do for the nomad community, you are literally my hero. You need to know you are a bright light in this dark world to so many. Without your videos I don't know if i'd still be here. Looking towards the future for the first time in a long time. Keep up the amazing work and thank you again!
💚💙💜 Many of us around this beautiful Earth have and are going through similar sad Life events and financial situations. It is a courageous leap to not do what 'others' suggest we need to do for Our own futures. You GO, Girl. And I am, too.
The Jenson balboa was similar to the basic Chinook. Jenson was a boatbuilder that decided to try the RV market. We owned a 1972 Balboa and I’m so sad we sold it.
Bob! I hope you see this comment. I’m in north central rural Illinois. I saw a Chinnok on a E350 Ford chassis. So no 4 wheel drive. For sale roadside. Today! It’s a 2000 with only 61,000 miles so there’s that. I asked to tour it and it was everything you said except WOW on this private owners price tag. 34,500 asking! This seems ridiculous to me!!!
You don’t need a lot of money to live on you can get creative with food especially if you make it from scratch most expensive thing is fuel so the more you move around more money it costs we prefer to hang out in one spot soak it up for a few months then move on , great to step off into real living , It’s such a flexible lifestyle you could work for a few months then live of that by a small piece of land grows and produce
Chinook built great vans but the four wheel drive obsession baffles me. Cost weight and complexity to travel where? I’d love to see all these four wheel drive vans showing us where they use their off road rigs.
Right!! 100% I’ve got a 2001 Chinook, and have been touring 6 months of the year for the last 16 years. Yes, clearance has been an issue 3, maybe 7 times, as I exclusively off-grid. So what? Twice now I have had to cut and replace the black & gray valves. The work takes an hour, and the parts cost about $35 . Why in the flying f would I spend $15k to $30k, or more, for FWD? I’m sure my mileage would suffer too. The most I am willing to consider is a 4 inch lift .. and maybe a suspension upgrade. Heck I still haven’t bothered to buy those traction boards that everyone who has 4x4 feels compelled to buy and strap on their roofs 😂😂😂 p.s. I just started full-time 8 months ago , and my only mod is doubling my solar. Other than solar my rig is 100% stock & original.
Yes so nice to see this video of a sweet lady and her doggy pals in a great rig. I get why Bob is green with envy!😂 Happy days on the road and hope you make sweet memories along the way❤
Thnx...Bob and Lorie..great video...Love the rig...Bob,jealous?? Your ambulance(you showed me at 2021RTR)IS FABULOUS...hope to see you all in The Q...I,m easy to find....18ft,brite yellow Skoolie, with tie dyed..curtains..knock and say ,HELLO...I LOVE,meeting new people
Dogs are the best company and protection also❤️

She solved it quite nicely.
Lovely home
I'd like to see an update on this solo traveler. Great van.
I don’t have a UA-cam channel as I am afraid of putting my life on the internet. In January I bought 123 acres in Virginia and I’m camping on it. Life goes on lol! Happy travels!
Sorry for your loss ( husband) absolutely love ur rig…and I hope you have happy trails… wishing u the best ❤
A "Flying Spaghetti Monster" decal on her fridge! :-) Glad to know that Laurie is surviving, and thriving. Life can be a real kick in the guts, sometimes. Very nice rig.

Fantastic camper and of course my favourite brand a Ford...happy travells
Thanks! You too!
Mine is a Dodge but it is a chinook it looks just like this inside except the fridge isn’t as big as hers.
WOOOOOOOW! I am in love and jealous of that Chinook RV! I would LOVE to have one too! Perfect size! (not too small, not too big)
Luv to come upon such a great find as this too……
A V10... Whoo hoo...
12 mpg tops 😳

Wow. I’m in love with the Chanook
I agree with Bob - That really is perfection!!!
I love how you showcase such good, strong, and resourceful people. People like her are great examples to follow

Very nice rig. Chinook eh? What impressed me most was your Dog adores you. I recognize that look.
Two happy dogs. I know her husband is looking out for her. Cancer must be cured. Research not wars.
@@scottslotterbeck3796 The medical industry is not remotely interested in curing cancer. Way too much profit in treatment and big pharma.

Great Rig!
What a nice story.
Sorry for Laurie's loss.

Definitely a nice rig, & it's wonderful she's able to enjoy nature full time now.
I live in a Concourse and I really need that upgrade on her rig...... That awesome sticker on the fridge!
Such a beautiful rig! No problem getting to where you would want to go in that beauty. Wishing you well in your travels Laurie.
Laurie, if you ever sell it, give Bob first dibs. I think he’d really like that.
Awe. What a wonderful strong person she is. Love her rig,dog and just her all together. Thank you for a glimpse into your life:)
I'm sorry for your loss...

At the end of the video was a picture on the wall. Tell her please how sorry I am for her loss! I will say a prayer for them both.
I know. May he RIP, knowing his lovely wife is living life to the fullest.
Chinook, Born Free, Coach House and Holiday Rambler were all high quality. I had a Holiday Rambler Augusta 235S that was great. Aluminum framed.

The economy is a REAL MESS now. Some are very, very rich, lots of middle class folks are going under.
Cute dogs. Hope the Van is insulated so not too hot for the dogs.
I love that her husband is travelling with her. Safe travels
Thank you

I agree!
The cabinet maker could easily put a drop down piece that she can pull up to eat or do and drop it back down when not in use.
So many things to try!

Jayco actually has a lifted class C Ford F600 diesel 4x4 coming out this year, called Seneca XT
I loved it! Chinooks are great! I have a lazy daze and just love the quality. If I wanted to go a little smaller I would look at a Chinook.
I love Chinooks when I look at used RV's and this has inspired me to get one - I think I would have U-Joint Off-Road do a conversion to 4x4.
I had my 2 wheel drive Chinook Baja converted by Ujoint
I love the Chinook's . She seems to be very comfy in it.
