Tumblr is really the only true social media platform left honestly. There's no longer any chance of revenue gain from ads so companies mass branding or celebrities don't exist there. Regarding the windows phone, my mom had the Sprint Instinct, which was an early attempt at an iPhone killer in 2008. It worked, but it was in that same fugue state that all touch screen phones were in at the time, where there was no broad android OS to run everything on, no App Store or equivalent and importantly, was in the early days of mobile web architecture. That meant that websites didn’t yet detect whether you were accessing their page from a mobile device, and buttons on pages didn’t exist yet. To do anything, you had to find the hyperlinks, pinch to zoom, and click. It wasn’t a bad phone per say, but there was clearly things it lacked that made competing with Apple impossible.

It's all usually just luck and nepotism.

I've never used a Windows Phone, but based on the reviews I read it had a good interface and good UX. The problem is that developers weren't writing apps for it. Everything was iOS and Android. If this product and OS had come out after iOS but before Android, it might have been received better by the public and developers.
Microsoft only bought out Nokias phone business. Nokia is still a huge global network equipment company. Funny thing is that Nokia has now licensed their phone brand to another Finnish company HMD Global which went back to basic and they make pretty good Android phones under Nokia brand. Broadcast but with a membership scheme that’s a little pricey but intended for twitch streamers to be able to stream music would be an amazing business idea. Imagine like a 200-300$ a year license. Big streamers are basically advertising your site, your PR online is insane, and you have added revenue to entice the music industry to sign a contract that allows people to re-stream music by proxy if paying for this premium service That way streamers can pick a station, but not the songs. So they couldn’t just abuse that access to play solely 21 savage or solely queen. Plus I don’t mind someone talking between songs I actually like it
The winner of the AOL-Time Warner merger? Former president of professional wrestling promotion WCW, Eric Bischoff. He was released from his contract in late 1999 AFTER he acquired stock from the coming merger. No longer working for WCW/Time Warner, he HAD TO cash out his employee stock. He did and made millions RIGHT BEFORE the merger went to hell and the stock became worthless. He got fired and became an accidental millionaire because people above him screwed up.
Atrioc says that tumblr was killed when that's not true , as an avid tumblr user of many years i can tell you we're still here the only difference being most of the freak sex perverts left tumblr with the advent of the porn ban to head over to Twitter. As a zoomer who's grown up on Tumblr I can tell you that is by far the best social media platform to be on right now ( a very low bar I'll admit) and its the best it's ever been. Tumblr has become a group of people with extremely niche interests who aren't easy to advertise to and are not kind to outsiders , as if we were all old men sitting on our porches with a shot gun. So when they ask you to bring out your dead just know we're still here.

Shoutout to all the real ones who were still watching this live even as the subathon ended. Kind of lame to see the chat blow up at the end, but big A still ended it strong
One of the best Marketing Mondays and we all know it’s because it was filmed on a Tuesday
this man looks like he gets absolutely fried before stream
Regarding the windows phone, my mom had the Sprint Instinct, which was an early attempt at an iPhone killer in 2008. It worked, but it was in that same fugue state that all touch screen phones were in at the time, where there was no broad android OS to run everything on, no App Store or equivalent and importantly, was in the early days of mobile web architecture. That meant that websites didn’t yet detect whether you were accessing their page from a mobile device, and buttons on pages didn’t exist yet. To do anything, you had to find the hyperlinks, pinch to zoom, and click.
It wasn’t a bad phone per say, but there was clearly things it lacked that made competing with Apple impossible.
my dad worked at BoA when they bought countrywide... wasnt a fun time
I actually had a nokia lumina. Can confirm came with the standard nokia screen. Was able to throw it across a entire basketball court no case, not even a scratch
I love the absolute glee in Big A's face when he is playing the Time Warner AOL clip.
My new obsession is this channel. Loving Atrioc's content. That little laugh he has between every sentence cracks me up.
9:46 - a strangle is a bet on presence of or lack of volatility - it has no directionality unless the count of put vs call or price of put vs call is different.
found that analysts Linkedin lol
"Job included seeking early-stage opportunities as well as established players in the Internet industry and providing IPO and secondary financings. Wrote in-depth investment reports on public stage companies (e.g. Yahoo!, Amazon, Ebay, etc.)" He "left" Bear Stearns in 2000 and doesnt list another job until 2008, I wonder if that had to do with anything
The Bear Stearns guy wasn't an idiot: he was literally just the more modern version of a boiler room telemarketer. All he's trying to do is get people to buy whatever because he wants the commission.
But then again, his call on Amazon was a "sell"
@@JohnYoo39depends on what his goal is as a stock picker, if he's trying to be good at his job, aka pick good stocks, then he failed. If he's trying to just get commissions, then he's great
As a proud Finnish person I'm happy that we scammed Microsoft
I remember leaving tumblr because they got rid of the porn. It was never the same after. I never knew why they did it, until now. Imagine if Twitter did that. Lol.
Honestly shocked at no mention of the Disney Parakyo acquisition
Might need to remake this one with a certain 40 billion purchase
Happy birthday atrioc!
i actually had a windows phone, there was a bug where plane mode turned on for some reason and decided to never turn off again. never, even after factory resetting it. wasnt able to call at all. BUT i did throw it at the wall once, 0 damage done to the phone and actually chipped the wall
Yeah, a lot of the "Sharks" on Shark Tank made their fortune by basically scamming other people into buying their company for insane evaluations when they weren't worth a fraction of that. A lot of the business people we tout as being highly successful have failed their way to that success. Successful people aren't superior to the average person. It's all usually just luck and nepotism.
1.1 Billion with tumblr seems so cheap now that we have Twitter
I mean X
good video, just cannot deal with the constant "kuhuck"
17:41 The man in the news clip was not Ted Turner, but Gerald Levin. Ted Turner founded CNN and AOL, and lost about 5-8 billion of his net worth following the AOL merger-crash. Levin (the dude in the clip) became virtually unhirable following his huge mistake, despite at one point being one of the most powerful people in the media business.
I own their XR20 which is one you can throw at a wall or drop in a beer glass without damaging it and I have been very happy with mine. Don't like bulking up my phone with covers so works great for me.😅
Atrioc is a hidden gem of youtube, you earned yourself a new sub :)
Best subscription of my life :D
to give everyone who doesn't use tumblr an idea, they had been making fun of yahoo for trying to buy it since they announced they were going to. everyone who uses that website knew it was a bad idea, so when they bought it the site was just full of memes shitting on them
45 Billion for a company thats hardly worth 5 billion 🐦
aight ive been on tumblr for years and ill be real, it got better post-porn. it was like excising a malignant tumor via decapitation, except that tumor crawled out of tumblr's rolling head and moved onto twitter, tiktok, and reddit. the vocal minority of truly horrible discourse has been reduced to a whisper, a faint echo in between fanart and pretty decent memes.
is tumblr a shadow of its former self? a horribly broken platform in every way? absolutely. would i have it any other way? absolutely not.
Scott Eherens, the contrarians hero
windows phone was actually really good right up until they killed it with the 8.1 update because the update wasnt compatible with the existing apps and no one wanted to remake their apps for such a small market
I think Google bought Motorola specifically to get Motorola's patents and collect the royalties on them that everyone was using as well as help with the Pixel development. Not so much for Motorola to make them a phone.
I actually had both Microsoft phone and a Motorola in this era.
I just love the hobnob guy in chat at 6:56 who's all like I HAVE A MOTOROLA and is freaking out 🤣
Broadcast but with a membership scheme that’s a little pricey but intended for twitch streamers to be able to stream music would be an amazing business idea.
Imagine like a 200-300$ a year license.
Big streamers are basically advertising your site, your PR online is insane, and you have added revenue to entice the music industry to sign a contract that allows people to re-stream music by proxy if paying for this premium service
That way streamers can pick a station, but not the songs.
I called my friends to tell them about the new tumblr lore, I didn’t know that very entertaining thank you CEO Brandon “Ewing” Atrioc
Atroic playing a video older than a minority of his audience at 4:32 haha. 01/24/06, a relic of golden age UA-cam.
Still a dog water acquisition on yahoo's part tho LMAO
Tumblr is the new myspace, it's still around but nobody is using it.
It's kinda funny. Now that Lenovo owns Motorola, they actually produce relatively good quality phones.
im mostly sad because i grew up sinking time into Diablo, its the only game my group really got together for in recent years (we are older now). Was looking forward to D4 good or bad.
And then came Musk
Just goes to show that losing everything you think you have is nowhere near the worst thing you can lose
"Maybe you remember something that happened in the 2007-2208, this economic thing"
Some 5head troll in the chat: "The Hulk Movie?"
I especially remember the tines around 2100, good times...
but BoA bought countrywide in an attempt to cook their own books and it worked. BoA mortgage backed securities and derivatives there of made more than $800B dollars internationally in-between buying countrywide and the market collapse.
He should totally remake this list and add the musk Twitter purchase
Motorola was actually one of the best purchases ever. They got a giant patent portfolio and it allowed them to defend themselves from apple/microsoft lawsuits (one of which had already cost them 1.5 billion).
mondays have gone from the worst day of the week to the best due to marketing monday
I hate how Nokia was just blown into pieces... It's almost like something is missing from this world when there is no Nokia.
A kid in my PreCalc led this mic unmuted and you could here this vid playing, nice one Big A
Motorola force z2, was my favorite phone. I dropped it into a toilet once and off the second story of my apartment twice( smoking 🚬 over the ledge) worked great for 2 years
The strategy Mark Cuban used is a collar, not a strangle. A collar is the equivalent of selling your stock, but using options so you're not actually selling the stock
Don't disrespect my boy Windows Phone like that
I went from only clicking on marketing mondays to clicking on an Atrioc vid not even knowing it was a marketing monday
this video needs an update
Glad to see the new 🥶Marketing Monday🥶 Big A 💸💸💸 Keep up the vids and you'll be at 💯k real soon
I think you mean that tarkiting Tuesday
Losing the porn of tumblr surely was one of the greatest downfall of the entire rule34 community.
Had a friend with a Nokia windows phone. He got laughed at by everyone else.
honestly microsoft phones werent bad it was a problem of the microsoft phones having like no apps that apple and android phones had
I used a windows phone for a short stretch of time and I can just tell you, it was.. not great. Umm.. turns out taking the cumbersome and obtuse windows eight and putting it on a 6 inch screen made ya kinda wanna huck the thing into a wall at times.
Well Scott Ehrens was an analyst for bear stearns, which famously imploded
I had a windows phone once. It lasted two weeks before I yeeted it into a lake and bought an iPhone
I'm sure there won't be a company buyout any worse than these down the line
no way
not possible
High key, what if some company bought the rights to Nokia and not only resurrected the brand and started producing phones, but also resurrected the unbreakable phone meme onto Tik Tok and other social media, producing a very high quality and close to indestructible phone that would use the meme to kickstart a massive ad campaign that would hopefully push them into relevancy
It feels like so long since he uploaded a marketing Monday man
Musk buying Twitter tops this list if made today
probably not tops, but it's up there for sure
