    Love is the answer, because everything is made of love. Crowley and Aziraphale represent the shadow and the light present in every human being and in the world. Their love for each other means there is no separation, All is One, All is Love.

    before he disappeared from social media because of his SA accusations, Neil Gaiman said on tumblr that there had been a written scene for Aziraphale and Crowley to meet during the 1960's while they were both female-presenting, but ended up being scrapped from the final cut (not sure if it was even filmed, probably not). While there are a couple of scenes in which Crowley is female-presenting (see the flashback in Golgotha, 33 AD. Crowley is dressed like the women that we see in that scene, while Azi is dressed more like the men), this information comes only to show that their fluidity of identities and expressions aren't more "explicit" in the show because of coincidences, not because these characters are limited to the gender identities of the actors that play them.
    on what you said of their relationship probably not turning sexual, that's actually a divider in the fandom. while, yes, they're not human and that's been established over and over, they do lots of things that other immortals don't and that humans do, like eating, drinking, sleeping and other mundane things. personally, I don't care whether it does turn sexual or it doesn't. I feel like it might because of the parallels established between Aziraphale and Crowley and Gabriel and Beelzebub. Aziracrow have been on earth since the Beginning, they have "gone native". Despite them both being pairings between an angel and a demon, they differ more than they look alike.
    In Gabriel's memories, we see that neither him nor Beelzebub feel inclined to eat/drink at that pub (in the show's first episode, we see Gabriel tell Aziraphale he would never sully his celestial temple with "gross matter" aka food. I theorise that, at the start of season 2, Aziraphale gives Gabriel the hot chocolate to make sure it wasn't all a trap. To reinforce this idea, we see Muriel being reluctant to drinking tea in later episodes)
    sorry for the rant in your comments lol

      Thank you for your interesting and detailed comment (personally I don’t like you first sentence as I wanted to keep this clean from those SA info, so nothing against if you like to change that 😉)
      Yes I know this story about the 1960s scene, but understood it was never filmed. Also, we don’t know about the circumstances or the plot of this scene. So I found it difficult to put it in here. Your explanations about Gabriel, Beelzebub and Murial are as well exiting. And I never thought about that Aziraphale could test Gabriel with the chocolate. Brilliant idea!

    I agee with you. They are completely in love with each other. The actors have said they are playing it that way.
    That's why there's the story that they had to do extra takes of the kiss because Michael Sheen couldn't make Aziraphale stop kissing Crowley back.
    I know they'll be together in a cottage filled with books and plants. Crowley will also have a garden to yell at while Aziraphale reads.
    They will always be in love.
    And at 69, this is the greatest love story I've ever seen.

    I don't entirely agree with this.
    I think people making those comments haven't read the book. I think representation matters, and writing that book in the 80s it was a very deliberate decision to talk about Aziraphale enduring homophobia. One of the moments I love in the series is when he says "I'm THE Southern Pansy" Which is firmly identifying himself as a gay man. He was also a member of the same club as Oscar Wilde, a gay club, where he learnt to dance.
    Both identify as male so I do think could be seen as a gay couple, it's clearly how Nina seems them, and others in the show.
    However of course technically they're not humans so it is a human interpretation based on how they identify in the world.
    And they're not sexual according to the book, but they could still be a couple, and be asexual or decide to make an effort to be sexual. I think however that's played out it would be a valid interpretation.

    • @BirgitPa
      @BirgitPa  4 дні тому +4

      Thank you very much for your detailed comment. These are very interesting aspects. I think the main point is that Aziraphale and Crowley are not human. But they are pressed into familiar social patterns by the humans (in the show) because it is much easier than dealing with the supernatural. And we as viewers are no exception. That's why such comments come about. I also like Aziraphale's line when he refers to himself as “THE Southern Pansy”. However, I think this is a form of self-deprecation because he is aware of his public image. In my opinion, he probably doesn't see himself that way. Because he’s an angel. But of course I agree with you that the two have deep feelings for each other and that these can also show up in efforts if necessary. This “back door” has already been set up very cleverly in the book. However, this is an exciting and multi-layered topic.

      @@BirgitPa yes but I think his human identity is as a gay man. That's why he says that line. I think he's gone native to more of an extent than Crowley. That line about Sondheim first nights is also a very direct reference that you'd say to a gay man.

      @ohana8535 Yes, I understand you. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the biblical story of the angels, whether there are gay angels or not. In the book Good Omens, however, this is denied.

      @@BirgitPa There isn't much about angels in the bible. Mostly they are God's messengers and servants. Luzifer, the great war, the fall, the hierarchy among the angels... none of it is from the bible itself. This doesn't mean it is not relevant in a religious sense, but it differs between confessions. I recommend the German wikipedia as a start. And the Bible, of course 😀

      I think their relationship includes all of that. But I think there are also a lot of signs apart from the kiss that it's real love. However it may take place between angels.

    • @FranziskaS6364

      That is exactly how I read in the book and why I likes the book so much! There are more types of love than romantic love (e. g. the love of a parent). I read it aa a very special and deep friendship, and I thought "gosh, that's the kind of friend I want to have!" I nearly didn't watch the show because I knew it would be romantic (glad I did, though 🙂). Also, I never liked the phrase 'just friends', because it implies that friendship is less meaningful/valuable than a romantic relationship, and I never saw it that way (who gets you through a heartbreak? - Your friends!).
      In the show there is a more romantic component and it works really well. Maybe it is also easier to create that special tension between the characters that way, because romance is such a well-known trope, especially on screen. How would you create platonic tension?

    • @BirgitPa
      @BirgitPa  2 дні тому

      That’s a very good point. Exiting perspective. I think you are right that the friendship works much better in the book. And I have to overthink the wording on my thumbnail (again) because just friends is indeed a degradation. Let’s see what I can find 🤔
      And one more point. Platonic tension works also on screen. To be honest I first noticed that there’s love between them when I saw the kiss. But watching the whole thing the second time, I saw all the hints. And now I’m hooked 😉

    • @FranziskaS6364
      @FranziskaS6364 День тому +1

      @@BirgitPa Interesting. I wonder why I saw the romance in the show even though I knew it to be a friendship from the book. That's certainly something I have to think about! Maybe it was only because I had heard that there was a romantic component before watching. Or maybe I just don't remember correctly and did indeed see it as a friendship (especially season 1). Since watching the show for the first time I had several rewatches, reread the book, watched fan edits and other videos and read fan fiction (also wrote some, but they are mainly firsts drafts and loose ideas)... Maybe I just think I saw the romance because they are shipped so frequently in the fandom and I went down that rabbit hole way to fast (considering I first watched the show in march).
      This calls for a rewatch with the goal to see only the friendship 😀But this will have to wait till I finish my current rewatch.

    I utterly disagree. Sorry. They’re in love. Have they had sex? Not in either the book or the series, no. It doesn’t make them any less valid as a gay romance.
    They are queer. They’re a couple. It’s a love story.
    And that is canon.
    You can dismiss that any way you wish, to make it just a friendship, and that is your headcanon. There’s lots and lots of media that’s not a queer love story for you to play in. But this one is ours, why do you want to take this from us?
    They are husbands. They talk to each other like an old married couple. They love each other. And they are genderfluid in a very real way, since angels ( and demons) only have gender by making an Effort.
    Sorry, not watching this attempted erasure. People have tried to erase us humans who don’t fit your straight narrative for generations but we have always been here and we always will. Stop trying to take one of the few love stories around for US from us.

For me, it's the most beautiful love story since Romeo and Juliet, Rose and Jack on the Titanic, Casablanca, Pretty Woman or any other example. (Have a look at my videos on this subject.) The only thing I wanted to say is that you can't pigeonhole these two because they're not human. That's why I don't see them as gay in the human sense. I think their love takes place on a much higher level than we can imagine. That's why they are the Ineffable Husbands! You can find all this arguments in my video!
