Amazing content Captain Dreyer! Please keep on creating those. Ultra informative, so clear, so well explained. A big salute from an ultralight sports aircraft pilot here from Italy!
Thanks for this informative video. I'm finishing up a project to capture and display ADS-B traffic visible from home, first putting together a radio to capture the pulsed carrier wave information being broadcast on 1090 MHz and then developing software to decode and display in various formats. Of course as I'm doing this, since ADS-B is a subset of the S mode traffic being transmitted I'm capturing all S mode data in my area, including the aircraft avoidance information. Since that was not the intent of my project I was not paying much attention to it, my software discarding the frames when it determines it's not ADS-B. But I did notice that although I could see the traffic avoidance response frames I was not seeing the query frames to which the aircraft was responding and was curious as to why. From your video I learned that the query request are actually on another frequency, 1030 MHz, so it is a mystery no more as to why I was not seeing them. 😃 After putting a few additional features on the ADS-B project I think I'll add a second receiver for 1030 and set up a display for the traffic avoidance queries and responses. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot captain. Nicely explained. Let me go do some questions now. Vielen Dank. But I didn’t understand what you said about South Africa, are they good or bad?
Who squawks 7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣ and when? If pilot violates TFR and pair of fighters intercept then which or both pilots use that code? Or neither? Why or why not? Provide appropriate authoritative cites to help resolve for pilot who actually flies intercept and led discussion at Sun ‘N Fun yet unable or unwilling to definitively clarify.
