- I couldn't find a video out there that helps people fix their Nyko Wii rechargeable batteries so I made a video tutorial after figuring it out myself. Hope this helps someone!
Here are some links to some batteries that will work.

That has $2.00 for shipping.
Here is a 4 pack with free shipping.

I ordered the 8 piece since I needed to repair 4 Nyko batteries.

Here is the drill from harbor freight.

You can probably find a coupon to take it cheaper. If you don't have it, use a hacksaw before trying to open it with a screwdriver.
Good Luck!
And thank you. After 8 years, I'm finally needing to replace these and this will be a big help----won't lie, very nervous when watching you drill, those suckers can explode---but, they are also dead so, there ya go.
I appreciate the tip about using a razor blade to make the cut. I used a box cutter with a brand new blade and made a nice clean cut through the seam. If you do one side at a time, you can rock the blade back and forth until it snaps through. One tip is that the center area is recessed and appears to be part of the plastic casing but isn’t. It’s a paper insulator adhered to the metal tab that connects the batteries. No need to try to get the blade down into that recess.
I removed the metal connecting tab from the old batts by sliding the blade under it and gently prying from multiple directions.
When reassembling I just laid the metal tab across the tops of the batts and put a couple drops of superglue to close the case.
The batts arrived about 75% charged. I’m going to deplete then completely before charging them.
Thanks for this. I too have a Nyko battery charger, bought replacement batteries cos mine had given up the ghost then found out they charged from a different input! Following your video I have managed to replace my new batteries into the old Nyko cases and they are now charging. cheers
you are a damn hero, holy hell i recieved a ton of super cool accessories from a friend years back, one of which being dual nyko charge stations. i was super stoked to use them until i realized the batteries were totally cooked. ill have to try this! ill report back how well it worked
In the long run, fixing the nyko batteries this way saves money from having to buy regular batteries all the time. This is a one itme fix and totally worth it. Thanks for showing this, I'll be sure to give this a try.
Worked like a charm. I was able to open the plastic case using a box cutter. Had to use foil instead of solder at the top but it worked :)
is a pretty nice fix... they made it hard using only 4/5 size AA's. was planing on doing this also for our kids wii... thanks for the vid
I guess full AA's would not fit with all the extra plastic there. It is not common for companies to use AAs INSIDE their products as well (say a notebook batery for example).
Thank you for the detailed video - just folowed your instructions and did the same thing with sodder and flux - Amazon had same batts for $8 for 4 (needed the rush delivery) - all working now 😁
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to do this fix on my controllers! Cheers from Brazil!
THANK YOU!!! This is exactly what I needed to resurrect the Wii!
Perfect thank you I was about to buy new ones worked perfectly
Thank you. Just what I needed.
Thanks Fixed all mine !
Great solution. Thanks so much.
Get a decent lipo charger and charge them with it. Most of these are not dead rather their voltage got too low for the charger to recognize them. You can use a cheap lipo hobby charger to bring the voltage up.
You are a hero! I'm definitely going to be doing this for my mom's WiiMotes, which had pretty much bitten the dust after a solid 10 years of use. We haven't been able to play anything much since they stopped holding their charge. Do you think this can be done with Lithium batteries? I don't see why not. :)
absollutly amazing video. Thank u so much dude, god bless you
and your kids ahaha
btw... i found out KRAZY GLUE (or generic equivalent) works great for electrical contacts that are to delicate to solder. probably work for this also
Thanks. I was able to use a razor blade to cut along the seam and didn’t have to have the tool. Only took five or six swipes across the seam to cut through and open it up.
David L. Barnes thanks i did the same thing and it worked. also put an c clamp to close the case back up and used jb weld on the seam instead of tape to keep it closed thanks again
Awesome! Thank you!
I did had the nyko charge base ic but the connector broke off and overtime’s I think the packs corroded
Why didn’t you get the quad charger to have back up rechargeable batteries
Did you know their is other battery charging stations for the Wii mote?
who the hell would thumbs down this??? assholes, thats who! thanks so much for saving my 4 port charger. they discontinued them new, so i'll be doing this hack myself.
I am having the same issue with my 360 packs....cant find a replacement pack now, but a whole new charging system for 25...i dont need a second charger...I think i will get the Ikea LADDA batteries to put inside the packs.
You just need to open it and see what size batteries it needs. Could be full size, could be 4/5 AA.
djtomr941 - any way I can ship my two same nyko battery packs to you and have you fix em up this way and then you ship em back?!? Just tell me what is owe you for that!!! Thanks
How are the batteries after a year of use? I'm thinking of doing this, and I'm between buying regular rechargeable AA's or doing this with the old Nyko's.
Kenny K the batteries are still charging fine. You will get 2-3, maybe 4 years out of them. It depends on how often you charge them. They only have so many cycles. Also, if you don't keep them charged above a certain threshold, they lose capacity and build resistance to being charged.
Thanks. I'll try it out
How would I go about opening these with a screwdriver? Would I just pry it open?
OhhChezy it won’t be easy because it’s pretty glued together. I would start with a knife and cut a groove and then work it with a flathead very patiently. Use a rag to hold the battery so you don’t cut your hand when it slips.
I was actually wondering if I could do this same thing, but when I saw it was sealed shut I thought maybe it wasn't. Been using my charger stand as a wii mote holder for years, going to give this a try for sure would be awsome to have this working again.
Also how many mAh did you use for the replacement batteries?
It fit in gba. Wavebird it works. There a youtuber test that battery in a gba,Wavebird
You can find those replacements on amazon
Albert .J you can but they aren’t made anymore. That means you will either pay a lot more or end up with some used batteries that may not be all that good.
djtomr941 when you find those on amazon get the one that says like new or get the one that was tested
Thx
Man this looks tough.
Inb4 cuts open the battery
Thank you for the video, and the info. The replacement batteries from Nyko have been discontinued. I'd rather attempt this hack versus spending twice the cost of the batteries on another Nyko charger (my second). My question is how did you know which batteries to buy? Also, I used the edge of my X-acto knife to help open the Nyko battery pack, then finished it with my fingernails.
David Richardson I took it apart first and did some googling to figure that you need 4/5 AA NiMH batteries.
After performing the work on 4 remotes only 1 or the 4 work. When I click the 1-2 buttons the blue lights blink? The only thing I can think of is to measure the batteries I soldered with a mulitmeter?
Nvm, all 4 remotes work after performing sync procedure.
I was gonna say that if they blink --> they work...
Good idea! Gonna try!
BTW, Y U work in the toilet?
EDIT: I wonder about amperage though. Found the battery with 1200, 1500, 1800, 2500 mah. Would any of those work properly (just hold charge for more time?).
BE CAREFULL WITH THE LITTLE PROTECTION INSIDE THE PLASTIC PACK.
Just did it. One went ok and the other one doesn't work.
I think I messed with the little protection thing inside the pack when I was inserting the batteries.
I can measure 2.5v both on the bottom terminals and the charging plates but the wii controler won't turn on with it (with the new or old batteries). This makes things even more weird.
Gustavo Neves you may need to reconnect the wires if you severed the heat sensor.
