I can't speak for everyone, but I looked up to The Libertines, especially Peter. I've never done drugs in my life. I modeled myself on him by bringing my guitar everywhere, reading books and poetry. I started to get into writing because of Peter and I studied creative writing at university. He's had a hugely positive influence on my life. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and the fact that he's overcome his problems gives me hope that I can overcome mine. I just want to document the positive influence he's had, as it doesn't get talked about enough by a lot of people.
I can't believe he kept asking drug related questions and couldn't name a song of Pete's. I'm glad Pete played Last Of The English Roses at the end to shut the interviewer up 👍
The reason he couldn't name any of Pete's songs he because he is a drug addicted no talent clown . If he didn't date Kate Moss nobody would even know who he is . Stop acting like he is Kurt Cobain,
Pat Kenny's friend and colleague Gerry Ryan died of a cocaine overdose (paid for by the irish taxpayer) a year after this interview. It's a pity that Kenny doesn't scrutinise people in his own circle about their drug use, the way he is scrutinising Pete Doherty here.
as much as the interviewer was a prick, far beyond the level of not wanting to go for a theoretical pint with him, his mary whitehouse esque line of questioning did get some good / pretty deep responses and reactions from him.
It’s a difficult as I get older I see the glorification of drug use to a bad thing. However, the approach of the interview is way to judgemental and attacking to open up a conversation that shows empathy and understanding of others experiences. Also the focus entirely on Pete’s drug use negates his work as an artist. I think it’s good to challenge people behaviour but only with concern and kindness and a respect for the path that lead them their. We’re all on our own journey and don’t start from the same place.
You say that Kenny should have done his research on Doherty before interviewing him . Well Doherty should have done his research on Kenny . Kenny is a serious interview he doesn't do humour he ask his guests serious questions . Although he was interrogative and harsh at times he didn't demean Doherty, he praised his intellect and creative ability . So he was very fair in that respect. Its clear that Doherty is surrounded by hangers on and yes men as he said he wasn't used to having those sort of conversations . As for his cheerleader in the audience . She is a fully grown woman who looks like she is in her thirties and she is acting like some hormonal teenager . Her behaviour is embarrassing.
He has no responsibility for others choices addiction and drug use in general such complex thing with many factors I tend to think people use what they want use regardless if you go bang up smack or smoke stones you wanted to anyway and anyone doing whim most likely just feel very sick and not want do them again
It’s like looking into a mirror whenever I see Pete then when I hear him k’boom it’s like our lives meld together we’re so similar! My nan was even called Dolly too! Mindblown. We’re soooooooooo similar!
I can do it been sober 15 yr and been alone in very dark places but the penny dropped at rock bottom the real helps there a feel sorry for u in the way of you have a weak spirit get in wi guys that have wore the t shirt an sober
Peter did so so well to get through that, such ignorance and Pete has dealt so well with this kind of tripe time and time again. 👏
Well said, Lee from Leeds; from Danny from Leeds.
