- Christian Cooper was birdwatching in New York’s Central Park when he encountered a woman whose dog was loose. He says he politely asked her to leash the animal, but she became agitated. As he filmed her reaction, the woman called police and told them: “There is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening me and my dog.” Cooper and his sister believe the woman was using Christian’s race to get the police to respond.

I have to agree with you - because suddenly - when he took the glasses off - I realized despite my efforts to the contrary (I'm not even American) I harbored irrational racist prejudice I was not aware off. I saw him for a split second as more of a threat than he is obviously, despite his gentle voice and all I knew before.

I'm with Christian's sister on this one, I think that at 40 years old, Amy Cooper was well aware of the implications of what she did, in fact he went as far as to warn (threaten) him about what she was going to do before she did it. Better believe that there is no particular look that a racist has, it could be, and it was in this case, a harmless looking, little white woman walking her dog!
First of all I have a Hispanic friend who looks white. His white friends doesn’t know that he is Hispanic because he is half white. Well guess what? He went over to their house and his friend (white woman) who is also an elementary school teacher say that the black kids in her class are dumb. She purposely fail them. She was laughing at their demise and bullying her own black students. When you see her in person you would not know that she’s racist. This was just on Newsmax. They read one of Cooper's social media posts, where he boasts about carrying dog treats to lure strangers' pets away if they're off-leash. That's NOT healthy behavior. Seriously - who does this?? He made threats about what he was going to do - and that she wouldn't like it. Then, he called her dog, "Here doggie doggie", and waved the dog treats. It was all she could do to hold onto her pet. No wonder she was terrified. The dog treats could've been laced with poison.

An old bird watchers trick is to give the unleashed dogs a treat. Thus, the dog owner would have to grab the dog and put it on a leash or allow the bird watcher to give the dog a treat!

stating: “when I saw that video, I thought, I cannot imagine if he approached [Plaintiff] the same

Dogs are often easily distracted by food. Owners are often oblivious to the threat their dog may pose to others. ("My Poopsie would never bite anyone" "Why are her teeth in my ankle")
The bigger question I have is why did she think she could ignore the rules and why didn't she put her dog on a leash when her infraction was pointed out. And why do so many people think it is A-OK to ignore rules and that the people who want them followed are some kind of jerks?

Most police would have laughed in Amy Coopers face because most police are not racist. The high incarceration of African-Americans has more to do with income, family structure and bad laws, not race. Crimes by poor people in cities is easier to prosecute than crimes by rich people. Income inequality and family structure, as it relates to race, is another debate. If your goal is a more homogenous prison population, then focus on inner city poverty, family structure and getting rid of stupid, non-violent laws.

I think everyone is missing the fact that he was pretending to feed poison to the dog. In the interview above at about 1:15, the interviewer lady asked him if he said to the girl, "if your going to do what you want, now I am going to do something...and you're not going to like it." His answer was YES, that is true. Then he attempted to feed something to the dog which she rightfully believe could be poison. That's why she freaked out. Why does that not matter? I mean, she was the one walking her dog minding her own business until he came up and harassed her.
Even if she thought he was feeding her dog poison, how does that justify a call to the police, where she states that a Black man was threatening her?

She was clearly trying to talk him into leaving her alone. He was indeed pretending to be the victim because he was recording the incident and wanted to cast himself as the innocent victim. She briefly moved towards him to try to talk him into getting away from her before she backed away out of fear.

Ive completely changed my mind what happened. Christian Cooper was the first one being a Karen demanding she put her dog on a leash. it was a nature reserve, which is the main reason why dogs aren't allowed there, kinda a danger to what's trying to be preserved there, she should have left or put it on a leash.

The villain is the person that calls the police crying and stating that an individual is threatening them, when in fact, they approached the person recording.

Interesting... I have been been a "bird watcher" for years... Traveled out of country with fellow "bird watchers"...ha ha... Never heard of bird watchers throwing treats to dogs. In fact, I would consider it rude if someone threw a treat to my pet without permission given my dog, had allergies.

Because being such a dog hater as to request someone leash what is clearly a kind playful dog... And then wait to make sure they leash it...and video tape the entire thing... Is creepy stalker activity in my opinion. If you want a dog, leashed say so and move on... Live and let live... She leashed her dog... And he wasn't satisfied... She then requests he stop filming her...and he still is not satisfied... instead of calling it a day...and watching his "birds"...he escalates with another threat... He was already doing what he wanted when he decided to complain...and again when he decided to video tape her and her dog... clearly he gets off on harassing people and pets he feels power over and clear from his confession he knowingly wears glasses because he thinks nerds are not threatening...which is a ridiculous statement because most nerds I know female included are more than capable of defending themselves.
