I have watched 13th. My best friend and I are so overwhelmed by the information. I want everyone to know that we, as white women, are pissed that we were taught by our "leaders" to question and fear blacks. I grew up in the 80's. When watching the turmoil surrounding race relations I had no clue it was perpetuated by the system. I was well aware of the divide, and thought black people were just mad about slavery. When in fact there is so much more to it. I, in spite of the climate, still chose to treat people around me with respect. I always felt like if the black people who I interacted with could see that I wasn't judging them, that I had empathy and kinda understood, they would do the same and eventually we could work our way out of hate. Well, I see we have a long road, but a much wanted mutual destination of love, acceptance and unity!!

i come from a poor country, we had really bad times that are not very far behind when people didn't have anything to eat because everything was rationed , we had no freedom , we couldn't protest, we were ruled by a dictator but i never saw a message like this where someone would say that stealing from other people and destroying their lifetime investment was justified! This is the most stupid thing i ever heard! What about hard working or studying or just moving your ass and organize yourself into a better community ? We also had protests recently with hundreds of thousands of people coming into the street and fighting corruption and injustice , but nobody destroyed anything and people even gathered the trash they produced and lots of them stay to clean the street after. When rioters and agitators tried to turn the protests violent they separated from them and publicly separated themselves from bad people. And we managed to stop the corrupt people changing the law and at the next vote we massively voted against them. I see lots of people praising her in the comments! Why ? I never really completely “got it” - I still don’t. I can’t... because I’m a white American. Like many of the other commenters, this choked me up. I’ve watched it multiple times now... How could I possibly understand the experience of being black and subjected to the subtle yet profound undertones and undercurrents of a society which hasn’t “gotten it” either. Like many others in American society, I’ve always thought of myself as progressive, tolerant, and accepting of all races and ethnicities. But there is that “privileged” hidden part of myself that questions why so many blacks live in poverty and end up in the “criminal justice” system - surely they need to be accountable for their own actions right?? I’ve condemned the looters and disagreed with the violence for defeating the “cause”. I admit it, but this video has opened up doors for me, and I thank Kimberly Jones for turning on a light in me and for providing me with a perspective I never had before I watched this.

One that rewarded sharing and another that rewarded monopolies. _Monopoly_ isn't a "ripoff", it's a version of the game created after Parker Bros. (now owned by Hasbro) swindled the rights from Magie. Incidentally they opted for one set of rules over the other. No prizes for guessing why.

Kimberly, thank you for this. Thank you for helping us understand. I am a woman in my 50's. We were never taught ANYTHING about MLK, blacks, racism, or that piece of history in school. I will be honest...I knew there was racism but never recognized it for what it was. I never really understood. I never understood about what exactly happened for all these years. And it breaks my heart to hear the conversations moms have to have with their kids- especially their sons- just so they get home safely. I also realized it's not just our police system that needs to be rebuilt- it's literally everything. Our laws and opportunities were not created for "equality." That is evident- and must change. Thank you again. Keep up the great work. You are a leader.

And this is why truthful American history needs to be taught in school. It would go a long way to helping black and white ppl understand each other. The problem is they only want to teach about the black leaders who preached Christianity and waiting on Jesus to save us. The leaders who want to take action and condemn white supremacy are either Assassinated, imprisoned or systemically demonized/criminalized. 50 years ago it was Malcom , Black Panthers, MLK .... Today its BLM.

    • @Copaceticbuddha

So I’m 24 and while I was in school I was taught about the civil rights movement. Other students and myself were taught that the civil rights and MLK was the end of systematic racism and that everyone is equal now. They put it in our heads that this shit doesn’t exist anymore and I think one of the reason we’re seeing so many more riots and protests now is largely because of it. We have so many people in this country that just don’t understand why people are protesting, they struggle to understand BLM because they were indoctrinated to believe that all these problems had already been solved and this is so harmful to society. We need to listen to black voices because the reality we were taught is not the reality we live in.

are. I will start with me, I will be open minded to the views of others. And I hope when faced with the wrong doings of my fellow man, I will stand, and do the right thing.

I listened to this clip on John Oliver first when he was trending on twitter. And I was struck. Now having watched the full clip, I can say that the most emotionally charged moment for me is when she finishes shouting out the truth of it all and is consoled off camera. Sometimes when we say what needs to be said, we realize just how f-ed up the world is and we break.
I was 12 when saw Eric Garner die. And I was 18 when I heard history repeat and I broke. Black Lives Matter, or nobody's does. Thank you, Kimberly. We'll all pass Go together one day.

@@jhozan Well first off, we've given POC actually race based advantages for ALL government contracting, grants, university admittance, and bank loans for ~3 solid generations now. The 20 Trillion dollars of LBJ's "War On Poverty" had as its focal point the black populations - so the country could have less racial strife (it didn't work). Also, it wasn't simply giant corporations that were burnt - many stores and franchises that were burnt were black owned. They've also destroyed any future prospects the city has for success as capital tends to flee if the environment isn't stable or risky. She blames television for people stealing televisions and computers, embarrassingly treating them like children. Actually look into the history of Tulsa, it's telling about how group identity can make a person dumb and ravenous - like this woman here. I'm Italian. We were thrown out of our Newark because of racial attacks and riots; so we know first hand how racism can poison a human's mind.

The waiting list to get into America is 100000 miles long and the crazy thing is is America is 5% of the world's population yet accounts for nearly half of all legal immigration every year and Democrats are pushing for more. I wonder why that is. If those immigrants coming in here illegally were voting Republican 75% of the time those same Democrats would be manning the border with the AR-15s that they hate so much ensuring that not one immigrant crossed the border.
It would be hilarious to see Maxine and Nancy out there walking around in their fatigues with an AR over their shoulder.
