    This was a painting technique i used to use for wash painting years ago. I tried it with contrast recently and was blown away with the results. A much more subtle effect can be achieved by basing with a light base color. Shading with agrax or a similar contrast. Then dry brush up through cream to white. This will give you a much lighter tone and it's great for painting brighter colors and less "grungy looking" armies. Enjoy your first game of Kill Team. "Waaaaaaarrrrrgggg!! Let's stomp sum oomies!"

      Been wondering this as well. One should/could use a dark base color instead of black, and than go up through warm or cold grey tones, ending with white.

      Would love to see some examples/video of this alternative. In my experience contrast paints straight from the pot are way too opaque.

    As a quick and easy solution for the metallic stuff, instead of prepping the metal parts with the grey drybrush, try going straight for a metallic paint drybrush over the black primer, i''ve found it works wonders!

    Ive been doing my Evil Sunz orks for a while similar to this. I undercoat on a dark brown instead of black, and dry brush desert yellow up to a bone white. The brown tones interact really well with Blood Angels Red and Plaguebearer Flesh IMO

    I recently got a massive lot of Skaven that I want to paint up and have primed them in grey to start using contrasts but this just seems like such a better method to get em done quick and dirty!

      It's also known as "grisaille" (pronounced "gris-sai") and it's been around for hundreds of years because it allowed artists to save money on paint when they made stuff like cobalt blue or titanium white from literal cobalt and titanium. You'd do an under painting with oil crayons or using cheap pigments (like dirt or charcoal), then glaze on saturated colors.

    • @andrewamann2821
      @andrewamann2821 2 роки тому

      @@nekrataali it's in the same neighborhood as grisaille, but this method is considerably less precise, and lacks some of the in-built information (different material textures, sharp edges, and the like...) that you would expect from a proper grisaille.
      The end result doesn't look bad, by any means, but it's basically a volumetric sketch. It's been a useful tool in Marco Frisoni's back pocket for a while, now, and it gets solid results.
      Oh, and whoever tried to name this like it's something special has absolutely earned my undying enmity.
