This is one of the first painting tutorials I've seen that not only shows a majority of the process but also seems genuinely accessible with attainable (and great looking) results. Well done, good sir! I actually feel motivated to paint today :)
Slapchop really has changed the game for mini painting. I'm a fairly decent and confident painter in the "Traditional" Method. But my god do i love this. Half the time and results are just as good. Beautiful work my friend!
I really like that flesh colour and the pink lip is a good touch and so simple. Never used any of the techniques here but its looking good especially for orks as there's so many of them
This technique really changed my confidence level for painting. Great to get it out to all the people that are on the fence about starting to paint their miniatures. And Yes,,, Scrape those Mold lines!! Nice work! Those giant goblins look great! 😉
To be perfectly honest, we did not have anything like contrast paints or speedpaints 2.0 or express paints readily available in 90s. Acrylics themselves were very limited in ranges and mediums and thickness =) Slap chop is not working as good with just thinned down acrylic paint.
Slap chop and AP speed paints has became my favorite. After the edges and highlights each mini takes me 25-35 minutes but they look great. As a board gamer mainly this is awesome.
Oh Ye Gods .... I'd almost lost the will to live with painting and now I seem to have fallen over The Holy Grail on how to do it quickly, efficiently and also to a very high standard. I salute you. Subscribed.
I have to agree with you they look cool just dry brushed. I think you should definitely try painting the clothes and leaving the skin grey on one of them 🤔
Great to see the process start to finish. I enjoyed watching your streams last week. Watched them all while slap chopping Gore Gruntas and Manskewer boltvoyz for a tournament here in Calgary, Canada.
Amazing. As a new painter and someone who has a neuro issue that causes weakness in my support hand, this is a game changer. So well presented. Thank you so much!
Looks awesome. Really like the antique looking patina with the contrast paints. Have just bought my very first miniature, an Ork Scrapjet which I will be trying this method ...
Orks have _always_ made brilliant palettes for drybrushing; 20-odd years ago, my Ork flesh playbook was dark green basecoat, drybrush up with a lighter green and then an ink wash to tie it together and add to the shading!
Thanks for the videos! I always enjoyed painting, but haven’t done it for a while. I got excited about it again watching your videos and have a plate full of minis all primed black waiting for me to try some “razzle-dazzle”! 😁
Really impressive - definitely a technique that punches far above its 'effort weight' if that makes any sense. I'm dead keen on the traditional approach for contrast and cleanliness reasons and generally dislike other techniques involving a simple dry brush or speed-paint method, however, you just cannot argue with these results - definitely would consider this for a more organic / skin / cloth type of model.
Good tutorial. Nice way to get an army done. Must agree about the skin tone, I love it. Think I'll have to have a go to see how fast I can get Boyz done. 🙂
3 - 4 hours, i can spend more than that on a single model. But i 100% agree with you, when you have whole army/box/ or just a unit to paint. 3-4 hours / model can be hard to find motivation for, and even more so if you are new to painting, and you results don't really match up with the quality of the box art. The slapchop works great with contrast paints. i have not tried it myself, but for getting an army painted and battle ready, your results are great =)
For the effort invested, he looks fantastic! Not sure it is something I'm going to adopt - I do get enjoyment out of painting minis - but still, a great technique for those who don't enjoy it as much as I do!
Wow, absolutely fantastic tutorial! Concise but also made sure to show everything you need to do, great time stamps, and great idea to print out that little painting stand. I’m probably gonna print one out later this week. Hopefully this technique will help me reduce my pile of shame, thanks!
I was remaining a bit old fashioned and stingy with the new contrast paints, barely got any, but that technique with that outcome really makes me want to invest and give it a go, that looks incredible!!
Loving the vids about this technique, just tried it with an old Heroquest Orc tonight, quickest and easiest model I've painted. Wish I'd done it for them all now, keep up the great work!
Amazing video, newly started painter and this has helped a TONNE. Question, what specifically is in the box you use for your bases? E.g. what products do I need to make that mix.
I've gone through a season of "traditional" painting (layer/wash/highlight/etc) and am getting back into some slapchop, so this was fun to watch. Question: How do get the git onto the base securely? Do you put some glue over the flocking and then glue the ork on top of the glue or just glue directly onto the grass?
Very enjoyable to watch. I knew about the slapchop technique but first I have seen it used on metalic parts like you do. The rust effect is great for the tile involved . Great work 👍 first time viewer > +1 sub
Given you flocked the base before mounting da boy, did you pin his feet or something? Because I can't see just gluing him to the flock being a secure fix.
So this technique really only works with translucent paints, right? Have you tried thinning standard paints to a translucent consistency and using those instead?
Great video!! My zombicide Undead or Alive KS just arrived and I have tons of minis to paint :) I was wondering if I could use watered down regular paints (not contrast) over the dry brushed mini and AP's washes?
Great tutorial, I’ve only recently started painting and this is definitely food for thought. Love the printed miniature holder! I the file downloadable by any chance?
Great video. Very informative. Have you ever had the soft tone dry in quite a gloss finish? It happens to me too regularly and I don't know why. Anyone else know? Is it to do with how much I shake it?
You said that you use cheap primer. Wasn't it melting edges etc? Or wasn't it too smooth for later painting? I use army painter and citadel primers but they are 5 times more expensive then standard sprays:-)
Halfords has some pretty solid primer. The white one is a bit hit and miss, but the matt black primer is real solid so long as you don't spray too much - if you do it'll goop up. But otherwise it's good.
I can't seem to get my dry brush layer to go on as smoothly as I've seen in your video, it always looks kind of dusty. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
maybe you're taking too much paint off of the brush as silly as it sounds, you don't have to go as dry on the grey layer. It could also be the type of brush, try using a makeup brush as the bristles are very soft.
No hate at all because I think your channel is awesome, just feels like the only difference with each of these recent videos has been the particular model. The commentary has been exactly the same almost word for word. It’s awesome that you’re enjoying it though bud! 😊

Thank you for your kind words and happy painting 🙂
Agreed really inspirational 👏
Great video. Straightforward and no-nonsense for those that don't like all the faffing about with typical painting (such as myself). Love it!
Slapchop really has changed the game for mini painting. I'm a fairly decent and confident painter in the "Traditional" Method. But my god do i love this. Half the time and results are just as good. Beautiful work my friend!
It certainly has made me love painting miniatures 🙂

Haha big goblins 🙂
Looking grungy and great!!!!! I keep mine dark as well, and dessert-ish..... GORKA MORKA WAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH
If we had this in the 90's...
I was looking for so many years for the perfect easy way to paint models decently. This is it. Even works on bases.
I wish I knew this a few years ago when I started this channel, oh well better late than never 🙂
To be perfectly honest, we did not have anything like contrast paints or speedpaints 2.0 or express paints readily available in 90s. Acrylics themselves were very limited in ranges and mediums and thickness =) Slap chop is not working as good with just thinned down acrylic paint.

Maybe a kill team of miniatures in greyscale lol 🙂
The AP soft tone wash gives the metal a nice rusty look. I wouldn’t have thought to do that. Thanks!
Super nice paint job! Thanks for the tips!

Glad you caught a couple, i would have livestreamed this week but still a bit under the weather, good luck in the tournament 🙂
I’m a total newbie and want to try slap chop on an ork combat patrol. Thanks for this! So good!
Amazing. As a new painter and someone who has a neuro issue that causes weakness in my support hand, this is a game changer. So well presented. Thank you so much!
Now THAT’S a paint technique I can get behind! Cheers
Looks awesome. Really like the antique looking patina with the contrast paints. Have just bought my very first miniature, an Ork Scrapjet which I will be trying this method ...

Super hyped to use this with the new vallejo paints coming november. Already keeping some hobby money aside to bulk buy a whole lot of those colours!
Awesome, I hope to get my hands on the vallejo ones and see how good they are, happy painting 🙂

Happy to see the mettalic style you've found looks great, looking forward to happens next
Definitely gonna try this out on my one big mean 3D printed Ork, or at least on his skin, because that's the one contrast paint I got.
Came here to see what your method of painting metal was whilst using Slapchop and was not disappointed. It looks great and I will be stealing it!
Wow, I am exactly like you, have a bunch of dark Eldar made up but am dreading the painting stage - not any more!
Try washing the Plaguebearer’s Flesh with Citadel Biel-Tan Green wash sometime. It makes a nice a Ork skin!
Good tutorial. Nice way to get an army done. Must agree about the skin tone, I love it. Think I'll have to have a go to see how fast I can get Boyz done. 🙂
I need to make one of those paint pot holders.
Yup a good use of sprues and Ive not dropped a pot yet lol 🙂
This is simply fantastic as a way to show people the full method step by step.
Will share this if anyone ask what I do in the hobby
It is a gamechanger and thank you 🙂
Love your attitude and the humble narration. OH and your stuff looks awesome too!

The little mixture you use for decorating the base, what is that? Really makes a nice awesome looking base in such a simple way
Great video! Can you please write down which colours you use, which one is it for the clothing? :)
I was remaining a bit old fashioned and stingy with the new contrast paints, barely got any, but that technique with that outcome really makes me want to invest and give it a go, that looks incredible!!
I've been painting for almost 3 years (not a lot of painting done though) and this looks better than most of my work. Slapchop really is magic.
Thanks for the tutoriaaaaooohmygod-a-GW-pot-cap-holder-made-by-sprues!
Thanks for the awesome vid! Heard of this tech ique recently. Will for sure try!
This is just a great tutorial and approach to painting. Thanks!
Thank you, simple is the best 🙂
Loving the vids about this technique, just tried it with an old Heroquest Orc tonight, quickest and easiest model I've painted. Wish I'd done it for them all now, keep up the great work!

Great video, just curious which contrast paints you used for the brown and black please.
Can’t wait to try this!
Speedpaint and Citadel Contrast have mediums you can mix with other paints to make them sort of behave like the speedpaints and contrast paints
Datz a propa ork he iz, ready fur krumpin’
I just wanna know how you put the grass box together!
You've taken a big shine to the method!
Haha, just a bit 🙂

Thanks for the video great fun and enjoy the Orcs LOL. 🙂Thomas over at The Model Hobbyist
Cheers Thomas 🙂
Nice technique, but can I find some site or app to combine collors?
Love painting but I’m short time I only have Saturday too paint.
Great tutorial, I’ve only recently started painting and this is definitely food for thought. Love the printed miniature holder! I the file downloadable by any chance?

Show us the paint pot holder!
what type of makeup brushes do you buy for the dry brushing is there a certain type?
Looks great
Whatsup w that citadel paint can holder? A catapult?
Looks amazing for such a quick technique. I love the grass box you have. was that sampled from different bought products? if so, which ones?
Cheers, sorry what grass box 🙂
@@MiniatureHobbyist haha I was talking about the grass you glue on the base at the end.
Hi there, I'd love to see this done on age of sigmar lumineth as they are usually clean scheme and well curious can slap chop work on them?
Shout out to Rob @ Honest Warhammer for starting the trend 🤙🏼 - you may have mentioned it but I didn’t hear it
Solid video 👍🏼
In the description I mention him but as Im painting so may minis Im not going to shout out in every video 🙂
Awesome video! I just ordered speed paint to try this. Can you share stl file of that handle?
Wow just wow
Thanks for a great guide! Could someone list the paint names used in this model?
You said that you use cheap primer. Wasn't it melting edges etc? Or wasn't it too smooth for later painting? I use army painter and citadel primers but they are 5 times more expensive then standard sprays:-)
Halfords has some pretty solid primer. The white one is a bit hit and miss, but the matt black primer is real solid so long as you don't spray too much - if you do it'll goop up. But otherwise it's good.
Yup its the cheapest primer on amazon, never mentioned melting or not smooth lol 🙂
Instead of dull blade, you can try to use the unsharpened side of a blade, it works for me
What brown did you use for the leather straps? Also why is your drybrush so smooth? It looks really good that way.
PERFECT I.M.O ! 👍👍👍
Pro tip, Orc mouths are way easier if you do your red first, then paint teeth
Great job sir!
Great video sir.Well explained 👏. Would it be possible for a similar vid but beginner's using an airbrush if possible. Keep up the good work
Thank you, I dont have an airbrush unfortunately 🙂
You don't thin the contrast paints?
I like to put more white as speed paints are very translucent.
We no longer have an excuse not to paint, excellent result
Brah...i got no hands.
Indeed and I cant stop lol 🙂
@@ands1983 there is a guy on you tube that actually paints holding the brush with his mouth
Great job!
Looks good
My plaguebearer flesh came out a completely different shade of green, more camo green than a green brown.
Ok, slapchop it is then. Good tutorial.
i love the little paint holder you got , did you print that yourself or buy ti somewhere ?
I made it from sprues, there is a video somewhere on my channel lol 🙂
Anyone recommend some brushes? Maybe a tutorial on care of them also. I am finding my fine ones split. Very much a new painter.
Note for drybrushing, dampen your brush before getting paint and do not use a paper towel. It will get rid of that chalky look.
Where did you get that thing to hold your paint! Anyway nice vid
Cracking job!
Cheers gromit 🙂
Ah the magic of dry brushing
yeah nice video
What black gor belt and colour legs?
Been a sub for a hot minute, can't believe i haddn't dropped a like on this video yet. Whepl, i got it fixed today.
I can't seem to get my dry brush layer to go on as smoothly as I've seen in your video, it always looks kind of dusty. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
maybe you're taking too much paint off of the brush as silly as it sounds, you don't have to go as dry on the grey layer. It could also be the type of brush, try using a makeup brush as the bristles are very soft.
ubeeeer speeeed paint :) so cool :D
it is sooooooooooooooooooooooo quick 🙂
Good stuff. What if I want to paint a D&D miniature though? ;-)
Ahh sorry it only works on Warhammer minis 🙂
Great vid!
Cheers 🙂
As someone who has over 120 ork infantry models........I could have used this awhile ago 😂
No hate at all because I think your channel is awesome, just feels like the only difference with each of these recent videos has been the particular model. The commentary has been exactly the same almost word for word. It’s awesome that you’re enjoying it though bud! 😊
Yup sorry but I am loving painting miniatures and each video is seen by different people as well as all my regulars like yourself 🙂
@@MiniatureHobbyist honestly bro, keep up the good work :)
