Spider-Man Scroll Saw Art! (SPOILER - it took over 2,000 saw cuts....)

- I’ve always wanted to make a picture of Spider-Man out of wood. But I also knew that this was going to be the most challenging scroll saw art project I would make.
I started by making a custom picture frame. I didn’t want to spend so much time scroll sawing and then put the workpiece in a regular picture frame. My picture frame has multiple layers stacked upon themselves. I made it from walnut and then added some blue mahoe inlay. I then placed another piece of walnut on top, which gave the picture a really cool geometric look.
The Spider-Man picture came from a piece of artwork in a Spider-Man comic. I loved the picture and saved it just for this project. No paint or stain was used in this scroll saw project. All of the colors are natural. I used bloodwood and blue mahoe for his suit. The background is birdseye maple. The negative space is wenge. The buildings and Spider-Man’s webbing is holly.

Great job 👏 my favorite superhero since the 80's 👍

Thanks for showing the process, this turned out awesome
That’s some piece of work magnificent
Absolutely love your scroll saw art. Definitely want more
You have the patience of a saint my friend. Lovely work.
Haha it was a test in patience for sure.
I love the frames as much as the art work
Awesome work! I will never do this with a scroll saw 😅, your patience amazes me 😂. But clearly this can be applied to a laser cutter as while. Love your work!
How do you keep your blade from flexing when you resaw ,, I have a table but it has slack in the arbor, I don't know what to do 😔😔
That looks really great. I'm a scroll sawyer and would love to try that. Where do you get those print outs?
I make them. I have a video on making templates and a free class on my website
I know this video is a bit old to comment now but is there any chance on letting us know how you make your patterns?
Check out my website and go to the R&D lab. I have a free course that shows you how. No sign up required.
How big are your panels?
Depends on the artwork. Usually about 11"x14".
How do make a cutting template that is 24"x24"?
Check out the Inkscape tutorial on my website in the Research and Development page. I have a video that shows how to make big templates.
