I bought the new Battletome last week and have never played a game of AOS so I’m excited to learn. I don’t quite have 2000 points but I’ve got 750 and some generous offers of time to learn 😊
Try 1000, i found it a pretty good spot to learn AoS mechanics and options. Only played a handful of AoS, was primarily Warhammer Fantasy player so finally done pouting and enjoying AoS!

Was it just me or did anyone else notice that the army showcase for the first 40 seconds showed the Nighthaunt but was Stormcast Eternals and vice versa?
Yes to AOS with 40k terrain rules. I enjoy AOS but the terrain usually just ends up as move blockers.

I think he probably looked at the warscroll but didn't think about the pts cost. The warscroll is actually decent if you say got 10 of them for 150pts or something like that. But 105 for 4 is where that unit becomes a joke.
@@ryancooper3629 One attack, one inch range hitting on 4s is not good at all, especially for only 4 models. Sure they have 2 damage, but there aren't enough attacks coming through.
@@matthewe.2552 at 26pts each, I agree. At 15pts each I think they would be workable. Thats why I feel its a pts problem, not a warscroll one.

Nice game, as always. Too bad that at the end, from Turn 4 onwards, the Stormcasts completely forgot the explosions of the removed units. The feeling is that the game was played a little hastily.
I really like the paint job on the Stormcast models!
You know, if you guys would just dedicate yourselves to finishing all five turns without rushing through it, the video would be more enjoyable and there would be fewer rules mistakes made. You can always edit it down later in post production if you want it to be tighter.
Nighthaunt ignore all modifiers to their save, INCLUDING rend 😉

By the way you can only dispell an endless spell with heroic willpower when it is your turn not the opponent's turn.
Minor thing, narrator said Indomitus box set at the beginning but SCE units that compose his army are mostly from Dominion, GG though!

I find it frustrating that I’ve heard you guys say there are basically no terrain rules when they literally have a full table in the rules. I find the game a lot more fun playing with Mysterious terrain rules. If you haven’t played with it recently it might scratch the itch you have.
Yeah, I understand they don't have a lot of rules, but "cover" and "blocks line of sight" are the main things terrain should do. Breachable isn't needed if you have giant holes in the side of the terrain, you can move through the holes. Why would you want a rule for guys to walk through solid walls?
Infinity is all about terrain usage and all terrain does is cover/ block line of sight, and 40k's rules just seem too gamey to me.
And yeah, I don't remember ever seeing them use Myterious Terrain, even the fun winter ones.
But I guess it's preference.
There's actually like 2 or 3 tables for mysterious terrain now, haha.
Don't forget the Nighthaunt now all can retrait and charge :D

You forgot to explode on the lady before that last roll off, you could have got that 1 wound and changed thing I think.

You’re really missing out by not playing at least one unit of Bladegheists. They’re probably the best unit for cost in NH right now.
The trouble with Bladegheists is that they are "best" in the Scarlet Doom which is highly pushing you to spam them. I doubt MWG has a ton of them painted up, and even if so, the batrep is much less interesting if its just 6x10 of a single unit. ;)
This was a pretty balanced and casual match on both sides.
But yeah, if you are intending to build power with nighthaunt, you will be running 60-90 Bladegheists and Olynder.
@@ryancooper3629 To be honest, you don't have to play them only in Scarlet Doom. A single unit of 10 to 20 buffed by Chainghasts and Guardian of Souls hits and wounds on 2s. Plus, if you manage to stack shriek from your charge, you basically have -2 rend on your attacks. A small unit of them can still be extremely powerful outside of their preferred list, and they really should be treated like Grave Guard in Soulblight Gravelords. Basically, they're often not the focal point of the army, but you take them along because they bring enough damage to the board to compensate for their cost.
I understand that MWG likely doesn't have a lot of them on-hand. I was just saying it was unfortunate they didn't get to try them out, because they really are a powerhouse on their own.
@@eviscer8wendigo243 hmm fair, though I remain unconvinced. 20 Bladegheists + Gaurdian + Chainghasts + Spirit Torment is a huge investment and it still doesn't hit THAT hard.
Personally, I think heavy investment into auras has always been a trap in Nighthaunt. Scarlet Doom Bladegheists are great because a unit of 10 is a solid threat without any support.

This was not a good battle report. You forgot the grave stalkers have 2 damage, but you were more excited about the Stormcast moves and abilities than focusing on the new Nighthaunt stuff. Please don't rush new books to get the video out for clickbait.

Why didn't the vindicators explode on a 6+ in turn 4? That may have slayed the hex raiths and kept yandrasta alive.
On a 2 preators do not act as bodyguards and the hero takes the dsmage. They take it on 3 or 4

Would have liked to see a better nighthaunt list. Stalkers are actually the worst things to take. Also taking a unreinforced unit of chainwrasp seems pointless. Still happy to see nighthaunt game, sad rolls for ward saves every time 😂
Literally no point in Stalkers. They'd be worth taking if their charge rule worked vs anyone and triggered WoT. Maybe they were 2 wounds too? Definitely need a lot of tweaks for their points. 4 wounds for 105 pts? Mental.
few things, maybe I'm missing something with the night haunt army, 1 you said your army total came out to be exactly 2k. when i tossed the army into the AOS app, (even including the guardian of souls you didn't talk about, im only hitting 1885. 2nd, how do you have an army of 3 chainghasts? they are an army of 2.. i guess technically, if I include guardian of souls, reinforce the chainghast(but only by adding 1 not 2 units for reason?) and swap out Knight of shround for KoS on etheral steed, THAT hits 2k exactly? or am I missing something?
o ok i see, in the army breakdown it wasn't 3 chainghasts, it was 2 and a spirit of torment.
The charge debuffs stack. So on turn3 you made them -3 to hit.
I'm really not sure how I feel about the new NH book. It feels like the allegiance abilities are fantastic, powerful, and flavourful but at the same time I feel like a huge number of the warscrolls just wildly missed the mark.
I can't think of a compelling reason to ever consider taking 70% of the units in the book as they are just bad for the cost and fill no useful role.
I think we are going to see a ton of chainrasps, hexwraiths, and bladegheist revenants. Spirit hosts will be used to keep Olynder alive in some builds.
I want to love the coach, and situationally I think it is terrifying but 335pts for a 12 wound unit that isn't a hero and doesn't even have the elite rule is a tough sell. It has to be danger close to be effective but if it is danger close, it will get deleted.
Stalkers are as laughable as they ever were. Rules wise they seem interesting until you realize that you are paying 27pts for a 1 wound model with 1 attack hitting on a 4+. The way I see them is that their purpose is to "trigger" an extra wave of terror reliably because they won't do any damage and die to a stiff breeze but is that worth 105pts? I'd rather pay 5 more for some chainrasps.
Black Coach doesn’t need elite because it’s a totem. I don’t disagree that some of the new warscrolls are underwhelming but the book is still young and I think it’s competitive without being overwhelming. In particular the new dreadblade harrows are pretty good, the new harridans are better than they were before imo.

But yeah, I agree, I think the book is easily upper mid pack. I just feel its extremely poorly internally balanced.
One thing I've been really enjoying about Maggotkin since its new book was virtually every unit in the book is playable so there is so much potential variety. I feel Nighthaunt just won't have that. It will have a few great things, and mostly awful things. If you index into the great, you have a solid army.

How did the annihilators make that charge with an 8? They had to deepstrike out of 9 inches, so they would need a 9 🤔
He used a command ability to drop 7” if I remember correctly
Lord-Imperatant ability Guided by Lightning can bring them in at 7" - probably the biggest reason to bring that hero.

@@Enballgroda1 180 points required battle line 5+ save 4s and 4s. Have to spend essentially more than 500 points if you're not playing big yella to make a legal lists
@@Connordaboss45 yeah but that 180 points is also 20 wounds and does mortals in combat. They have such a better damage threshold for their cost in comparison to glaivewraith stalkers it is embarrassing. They’re overcosted yes but they’re better than this by a country mile.

Probably one of the worst nighthaunt armies I have ever seen 🤣
This nighthaunt list is all over the place. I know he said he wanted to show off lots of stuff. But I would rather see what they do well. Glaivewraiths are just bad. 8 of them does a potential 16 wounds. Where a 40 point cheaper grimghast squad does up to 22 has 2inch reach or the same could be said about Bladegheists. Those two overall would have been a better pick for this. Tomb banshees have been really rough the whole time. Hexwraiths lost a attack from Emerald host and are way less efficient than most the rest of the army at this stage. The Black coach isn't as effective as it once was either.
I want to put this here before anyone says anything about it. I like just watching the guys play when I am painting and that's fine. But I would be far more engaged if they were at least putting some more thought into winning in their list building. It doesn't have to be the Meta tournament builds. But especially for a first look I would like to see what they are really good at. There are legit some times I look at the lists and turn off the battle report. Maybe its just me, but this is something I been feeling awhile and wanted to see if others also felt this way?
Then find another, better channel to watch.
You know when you go to a local game store and there is always that group of hard core nerds that take everything far too seriously and like to think they are genius generals but they sap the life from any game and get obviously upset when losing.

Stormcast is so unbalanced there just not fun to watch being played. I love this game but I hate how they so blatantly make the poster boy armies so broken. Honestly I can't even understand how anyone would want to play them it has to be so boring to know you will win, because GW can't balance there game.
