I always love to watch Beasts of Chaos games. Even if they don't perform the best, I feel like half the fun is seeing if they can eek out a win.
Yea I too and my favorite units are ghorgon and cygor what is your favorite unit
A new type of beast man was created today, the Pasteigor.
That's funnier than it should be
Please don't shelve. They are my favorite army on this channel.
I love that you can have a little unit of beastmen to sacrifice. And watching BoC games are enjoyable, always rooting for the little guy (literally in this game).
Facing the Gargants is an enjoyable game to watch!
I'd like to see Sons of Behemet vs Cities of Sigmar next!
I wouldn't shelve them, I'd try to expand them and use other units if possible, and bringing allies.
Maybe try to get some Tzaangors put into the mix.
plus with the Slaneesh mortals teased over the weekend, we might get more Slangors as well
@@paulhudson8725 Be nice, but with two new units of non-Beastie infantry I'm not holding out much hope - although there was that one sculpt in the teaser recently for Underworld - or was it Warcry? They kind of blur together for me. .
There's nothing I'd like to see more for BoC than the three missing "power specific" gors, though.
@@richmcgee434 it was for underworlds, but given some of the plotline for the Broken realms we might be seeing a redo of the Hedonights, but fair points.

You Used a Ghorgon Not a Cygor
Steve, it says 2x20 Ungor Raiders here but they weren’t to be seen? Did you short yourself 160 points?
@@tommegens they had a shaman with foresight which told them to have an appointment elsewhere.
Don’t mancrusher gargants have to be a max unit of 3 to count as Battleline requirement for 2k? Unless y’all are just not using matched play rules?
@@axiseliteguard8140 no a max unit of 3 counts as 3! But they are battleline. If not the army couldn’t play haha.
Yes, it worked! Keep on bring them Moo-men!
Even before I start, the runtime of the video gives me an idea how this is going to go....
With the portholes and the sideways camera, I really feel on a ship.
Try rocking back and forth in your chair for an added nautical feel. :)
I think the key might be to attack one flank with a strong force while avoiding or slowing down the other giants for as long as possible. As it was, Steve enganged on all points at once with low to moderate force and was destroyed in short order. You need blitzkrieg, not Great War tactics. A massive , concentrated blow to kill one giant rather than weak blows at all points. Maybe combine flanking archery 2x30 Ungor Raiders?-Re-rolling 1s and 2s to hit and doing 2 hits on a 6), magic and a powerful close combat unit(30 Bestigor?) to kill one of the big fellows on a flank. Avoid battle everywhere else. In future rounds, turn this powerful blow onto the next part of the line and try to kill another big giant (rather than annoying multiple giants but killing none). This is probably easier with other armies but I don't think it would be impossible with Beasts.
This is some good advice, hopefully he looks at it and gets a chance at a rematch cause this battle was fun.
To be honest with the set up and deployment it would of been incredibly hard to pull off that tactic, I think it just boils down to BoC not having enough of a bite to pose a threat.
Do you think a cygor can beat a mega ghargant
More sons of behemath!!!!!! Hell yeah
What I don't get, with all the videos on this channel; would it be hard to put a couple of cameras on the board to cut in more close-ups on the deployements and situations? Like; I want to see the models!
Really good rep. Love seeing how much Josh is enjoying this army!
I do love the giants
Yup, this confirms it. I am making a Sons of Behemat army. Probably with a lot of help from mantic, lol.
Any luck finding mancrusher/small gargant alternatives? I've got one Mantic giant so far and it's the perfect size for the Megas, it's awesome
@@bombarded15 actually, yes! I used the hill giants from Wizkids and the Borgborimos(sp?) from wizkids. About the perfect height and they fit just right on proper bases.
Thank lord you did not shelve them love seeing you play them
This felt like that avengers scene when Hulk picks up Loki and slams him around, only this time Loki was a goat and Hulk was 50 feet taller and less green.
I just had sports drink come out my nose at the gym. Thanks for that
@@TheCrimsonSpork you know these things are a valid risk when watching batreps in the gym 😂
Till a new handbook, just say they where eaten by Slaanesh, like the squats.
While it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference this battle, I feel Steve should prioritize damaging the littles more rather than the bigs. They have a lower save and 12 damage to a little is going to make a much bigger difference than 12 damage to a big.
Bullgors at 22.37 you had two 6s - don’t they get double hits since they’re part of the battalion ?
For the Crushing Charge of the Warstomper in Sons turn 2, you roll dice for EACH enemy unit within 1". You should have rolled for the dogs as well.
Oh man that's so much more brutal
Man, that Breaker loathing choice - just mean against BoC, where a lot of the units can't run & charge (arguably their best trick) without command models. "Oi! Shut up wit' dat bloody tootin!"
Edit: Although you're sure doing your best to deprive yourself of the bonus by using the pick up and net/eat/squash attacks to single out the banners and horns at every opportunity. I can understand killing the champion to remove the extra attack, but leave the other command figs alone for cripes' sake. If nothing else, making the BoC choose them as losses themselves to remove the loathing bonus is demoralizing for them.
This is why you bring Bullgor lists.
You can still bring a decent number of fast chaff regardless, but Beasts is a glass cannon army that needs something that can hit hard to take objectives off of enemies. He says it himself in this video that the Bullgors were the only thing he was afraid of, with good reason!
A second line of 4 x 6 units of Bullgor would stand a good chance of singling out and bringing down garrgants. If you go Gavespawn, the unique artefact you can give a Doombull or Shaggoth makes for 3 3+\3+ attacks at dmg 5 with rend -3/-4, and a if there's a spawn nearby that can be 4 attacks with a command point, or even 5 on the Shaggoth with the Titanic Fury spell from a Bray Shaman. Which gives either of them a decent chance of bringing down small garrgants or even almost finishing off megas by themselves.
This is what the match up could have looked like
ua-cam.com/video/3hFCVr4Cp4g/v-deo.html
Does anyone know what miniature they used for the one, unique looking Mancrusher?
This would have been absolutely hilarious if they spent the full 50 minutes of this video just dicussing the rules of their army after determining objectives and then they just guess who wins and pack up
Taker tribe is awesome. Counting as 30 and 15 makes them really hard to get off an objective. Kick some of the objectives to the middle to make enemy come more towards you
More Sons of Behemat content!!!
Devolve is one of my favorites for making things come at my warherd. Nobody wants to be forced closer to 18 bulls when they arent ready. It is helpful vs flesh eaters or really anyone who wants to pick when they get to engage as the bulls are only slightly faster than most infantry.
lmao, A for effort Steve! I would like to see this same match up on a game with 4 or 5 objectives.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the Minotaurs and ghorgon both rolled 6s to hit so shouldn’t they have had extra hits? That way both big giants would have been much worse off. I’m also feeling that any - to hit is a big help in this game is there any chance to get more-1s in the beasts? Also also, from what I see here the key to beating the sob’s is dog pile on one until death, summon and repeat?
Not sure about their rules as I don't play them but isn't that ability based on being in enemy territory?
I love those poor goats
How many dice would you recommend having for a Sons of Behemat Army?
I'm running Breaker Tribe. 2 Gatebreakers and 2x3 Mancrushers.
One thing that might help with the bodyblocking of Gargants is that their Longshanks only works if they start 3 or more inches away from your unit (to qualify for a normal move) AND they have to end over 3 inches away. So that's 6 inches movement PLUS your base width so it;s at least 7 inches movement needed in a straight line to clear your screen.
At max health the megagargants have 10, 11 or 12 inches of movement so some careful placement screening from further away or deploying in double depth or two separate screen lines, etc. will allow you to hold them back.
A retreat is also a normal move. From the core rules - "Moves made in the movement phase
are referred to as normal moves, to differentiate them from charge moves (made in the charge phase) and pile-in moves (made in the combat phase). A model making a normal move can move a distance in inches equal to or less than the Move characteristic shown on its warscroll". The retreat is still a normal movement, but simply prevents shooting/charging (unless an ability states otherwise) - again from the core rules; "Units starting a normal move within
3" of an enemy unit can either remain stationary or retreat. If a unit retreats, it can move within 3" of an enemy, but must end the move more than 3" from all enemy units. Models in a unit that retreats can’t shoot or charge later in the same turn".
This means they're actually much harder than you may give credit to keep them pinned down. You have to make "layers" of screening, to ensure that their huge base size means that even with a big run roll, they can't clear the unit they're in combat with and anything behind it. Once people start to get an understanding of this, they're easier to play around.
@@Jamesharrison1990 Sure but none of the megagargants can retreat+charge (unless there's a command trait I am missing). So if they're busy retreating from a combat to move somewhere then they're not fighting that turn. So if they're running away from your screens then they're sacrificing the combat potential of ~25% of their army. Plus if they're doing that it's probably not that tough to charge them again in your turn to tie them up again. It does mean they can retreat onto some objectives to capture them with their 'high bodycount' though.
@@sirbobulous Yep, the retreat onto objectives is the only reason you'd use this. But it's incredibly powerful with their bodycount. The thing you don't want to be doing for most armies is having to get multiple units into combat with these guys, because you will lose some, and it cuts down your board presence elsewhere. I played SoB quite a lot recently (probably racked up ~10 games with varied builds), and weirdly you don't necessarily want to be in combat all the time. It forces your opponent to have to fight you while you sit on a vast number of wounds. Sure, some armies can remove the models quite easily, but most struggle. Meanwhile you hoard objective points.
It's quite counter intuitive, but SoB's real strength is their objective game. Their goal is to cap and sit on objectives, and use their huge wound count to last long enough to win on points. Mightier Makes Rightier gives them such a huge advantage on several maps that you really need to have the tools to remove them quickly and without losing too much yourself in order to compete.
@@Jamesharrison1990 Yeah I've not found the Megagargant damage output all that impressive. It sounds scary and can be disheartening if you're running elite stuff but something like a blob of skaven or freeguild just kinda shrugs when a Megagargant hits them and removes 25. 1CP and who cares? Giant is stuck or loses another turn fighting and your swarm just spreads out and covers ground.
Their objective game is about the only thing that makes them competitive really as any of the well tuned 'top' armies should be able to remove the big giants fairly reliably and are used to dealing with an enemy with higher damage output.
From "I want your pity... Please?" to "HA! JOSH DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY WARHAMMER!" and back in 60 seconds flat.
Hey the same things goes on in my head every time I play
As a tip hurled body from the war stomper is anytime in the combat phase, so you could swing let the opponent take models away then do hurled body and potentially cause coherency problems
Nice!
if you want you could try a list llike this for beasts, i have had very much success with it. Farm CP with the artefact and then with your spawn you pump up all of the attacks for you punchy units.

Can you tell us where the rad mancrusher gargant is from? Is it Kitbashed?
For some reason I cannot stand watching 40k games that consist of pure knight lists. I don't find them enjoyable.... but a list of giants. Fun all day
Same
"He's in the bag" that is both the funniest and most ominous attack to ever grace a Warhammer game!
Watching this video saved me a lot of money on staring up this game
What rule states you gain benefits for "idiots with flags"?
I saw the title, the length of the batrep and knew the conclusion. Looking at them Sons, how does one even really compete against them.
SoB are a mid tier competitive army at best. You will not see them winning many tournaments once more big events get up and running again (damn Covid). It's like Knights in 40k. Big and scary, but play the mission, and they lose. Time will tell, but That's my assessment so far.
@@WhyNot-sb9kk maybe you are right it just seems to remind me of when knights turned up in my old play group. But indeed time will tell.
Seems to me like they die against anything with strong ranged options, which is exactly what the tournament meta seems to be right now I think (Kharadron Overlords, Tzeentch flamers, Lumineth Realmlords).
@@jordivermeulen2519 maybe then that's the problem I have, I do not really watch the meta other than the Warhammer Community articles. Like I am thinking of my Snake lady Daughters of Khaine I am making up right now...I think I would just get hard stomped in this. But eh, until COVID goes away that is a problem for future paul
@@paulhudson8725 If a properly buffed unit of snake ladies attacks a megagargant they should kill it in one round with fairly reliable odds. Generally you'd need to block/slow down the other Gargants (they're fast but not THAT fast, 10-12 inches at max bracket).
Plus things like good saves or Feel No Pain style saves (like Hag Narr Daughters, which can include snakes!) cuts thei damage down.
Morathi is also amazing at fighting them. She can only take 3 wounds per turn (i.e.: 6 per battle round) but can charge and tie up two gargants by herself while also dealing damage to them.
Grab some cheap khinerai to body block and screen your hard hitting units, then pick on a gargant at a time and kill them. You can give up an objective or two and often still win.
don't get rid of the goats please! I love seeing them! Maybe try adding tzaangors and slaangors whenever decadence and decay comes out?
Funniest batrap I've seen in a while! Haha!
BoC is my favorite to watch
I would love to start my warhammer collection with beasts of chaos and possibly lizardmen and skaven. The beastmen are my favorite chaos faction in warhammer.
MOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Those cows getting charged with box cars was devastating. Would of liked to of seen what they would of done to a giant with the first swing.
Beasts of chaos need a model update, bring back some classics and expand on their rules, allow them to be more hit and run or to be able to stay in combat better than humans. Make Bestigors tankier...
The battle between gorgon and gate breaker mega gharghant was amazing if cygor was on this battle as well that would be great
Steve, right battalion but max out the ungor raiders and outflank
What was the fancy small giant model that they said cost a bunch of money?
Steve needs to bring one more ghorgon and a cygor to beat those huge powerful giants
Just noticed that the warlord trait for the mega-gargant says dominator instead of old and gnarly.
Real Big Boi hours up in here
Wow steve wins but I feel bad for giants because they are favorite aswell
I've not played AoS so my only understanding of the rules come from watching these battle reports. Can anyone please confirm whether the following is true?
You do not need to determine the target of your charge before you roll your dice. You can roll your charge distance then pick from eligible targets (this is how the minotaurs got charged).
Damage overflows from one model to another in case of overkill: a 3 damage wound will therefore kill 3 1W models.
Correct
@@mwgjosh5161 Intriguing. Thanks for the reply!
BoC are in a sad place right now, I'd understand if you shelve, though if you want any chance I think you need to include Tzaangor and Enlightened
Taker is hands-down the best. 2 Kraken-Eaters and 3/1/1/1 for Mancrushers is the "meta" list.
I really love your channel guys follow you since 2016.
What I don’t understand is why the biggest wargaming company on UA-cam (you) doesn’t improve videomaking. You have an amazing place, you are really funny and good guys, you’re videos are fun and great, your terrains and miniatures are amazing. You technically are the best on UA-cam for battlereports but you still do video with no operator and always with camera shaking. Bad shoots, not functional. I think you have everything to allow players to be players and cameraguys cameraguys.
2 hours a video with shaking camera is impossible to follow. Just improve this and you I’ll be the best.
Might just be me, however I find the static camera mounts to be less interesting to watch. The mobile camera system MWG uses seems more "in the moment" which I enjoy watching. Again, might just be me.
@@dr.v645 yes of course that was my Personal opinion, surely not the absolute truth! Btw “no shaking camera” doesn’t mean necessarily static camera, it means professional shooting (possibly with a Camera stabilizer or not flickering crazy hands all over the table) without breaking the “reality” of the moment.
No change of format, no changes of mood, just a third guy with a good camera taking shots about: the guys playing/talking, the gamingtable when it comes to do movements or focus on specific zones, the dice when they are rolled (if necessary 😂) and then often take the prospective of the miniatures involved going inside/trough the amazing terrain they have.
@@emmanuelgalli6760 That is fair and you make a good point.
The sheer unbalance of this battle report reflects what 6 gargants would actually look like fighting an army, something that large would realistically be immovable without siege machines or strong magic
Mega Gargants roll Impact hits for ALL enemy units within 1". 36:40 should probably have rolled for the dogs as well.
Bloody love these two! 😂
Not to be negative and all, but I think the insistence on playing Allherd instead of Gavespawn may also be hurting the overall chance of BoC winning. When we're stuck with one of the worst tomes we kind of have to rely on the few at least decently powerful things the Beastmen have to compete even in more casual games.
Josh and Steve? The Yin and the Yang. Autowatch.
U also cheated yourself steve. Ghorgon does d3 mws on 6s to wound and beastlord rerolls wounds vs heroes. also there is a good spell that cast on a 5 u cast on a monster u can roll their round characteristic and ever 4 plus is a mw. Still love seeing the beast

I love the BoC but they are possibly the worst army with a Battletome. They're basically 9th Edition Genestealer Cult, only worse.
little guy look at a giant theey are giants
Just let the Beastmen go. So many other armies that are not top tier but have a realistic chance to win.
these battle reports are so frustrating to watch now, Josh is good and love him, but Steve just complains all the time about the game, and spends the whole game saying oh I've lost and this won't work, just play the game and have fun, if you don't want to play BOC don't play them because it's such a negative view experience, you guys are so lucky to be playing games all the time, at least make it look like you are enjoying yourself and drop the defeatist attitude it's so boring to watch, caveat, i love your videos but Steve is so negative at the moment, you guys don't even play competitively so stop worrying about what's good and what isn't
It may be because I was in the room but Steve didn't come across as negative to me but maybe a bit bummed. He has stuck with an army that is subpar but he enjoys playing and we thought this would be a fun goofy match that gave him a chance to play them. Turns out the giants are a hilariously good counter to the moo men and that was a bit disappointing but I think it's pretty obvious we are goofing off and having fun. Everyone is of course entitled to their opinions but I am trying to offer some insight
@@mwgjosh5161 thanks for the reply, I’m sure that for it didn’t come across that way but for the viewer it certainly does, there are comments on most of your newer videos about people giving up half way or 20 minutes in because of it. It’s clear Steve may love the army but if he doesn’t like playing them then he shouldn’t just because some people want to see them really, yourself and Luka would be my favourite combo
I saw the army lists and knew SoB would crush the goats. No need to watch any further than the army lists. Like your bat reps but MWG needs to ratchet up the competitiveness some.
I feel like I know who won but the ending is confusing af lol
Did you watch till the very end of the video?
..
I know lots of people have been and will continue to tell you not to shelve the army, but. . .
I gotta be honest I think they're pretty uninteresting to watch.
Agrees, they're old and boring. Being a underdog isn't fun if you don't do anything interesting.
He needs to stop picking terrible allherd. Play gavespawn, paint some more bestigor, probably add a unit of enlightened. It feels like he always just takes chaff, but no actual hammers
@@deerspirit7560 12" Charge on the Minotaurs didn't help Steve a whole lot
I just noticed something about MWG bat reps compared to other batrep channels. The guys from MWG use waaaay too many overly animated hand gestures, I get that their hands are all that you can see form the camera mans perspective, but they are overly animated with them, and it just feels weird to watch. Maybe its just me, but I notice all of the guys do it, and it bugs me. LOL.
Mwg is objectively the best channel for batreps on youtube.
@@Collinpawns They are pretty good (as its a full on profession) but I like the style of GMG more.
@@Collinpawns I like MWG, but my point was only a minor annoyance (to me specifically) As fas as the best... maybe the most frequent, good level of quality videos, but far from the best in regards to rules, tactics, balance or competitive game play.
@@Collinpawns for beginners yes! Depends on the audience. The camera and table quality is def the best but lists and a higher quality of play can be found elsewhere.
I still enjoy these though as the game is about having fun above all else.
