Loneliness is a negative emotion you can control. I try to not invest too much faith in people. Implementing nutritional strategies I learned from Dr. Hyman and many others has actually stressed my longstanding relationships with family and friends. They are not thrilled that, at 60, I lost 25LBS and have no health issues. Choose friends wisely. Family - good luck with that!

      Totally agree.
Choose your friends wisely because you enjoy them and because they are good people. Being around good people makes you feel good and contributes to your overall health in such an amazing way.

It's subjective -- so one cannot say being alone is loneliness. Introverts don't do better they may do worst if they force relationship.

Other people bring stress, I’ve never been happier on my own without any drama. I have my grown up kids and grandchildren. The worst thing is being in a relationship and feeling lonely, I know people like that. They use alcohol to cope.

Random people stress me. Special people for limited amounts of time is optimal.

Mark, I have been watching your podcast on and off for the last three years and have enjoyed and learnt a lot. The way u form the questions (although u already know most of the answers) helps us understand the subject matter more easily. I sincerely wish u a very pleasant life in all your future endeavors.

This is essential information to help us live longer and better. It's not new, however. Dr. James Lynch wrote The Broken Heart- The Medical Consequences of Loneliness back in 1977, and Dr. Dean Ornish wrote Love and Survival in 1998. Both books present research-based evidence showing the relationship between physical health and social connection.

I do like the definition of relationships as plants that must be "cultivated". I think that in our dysfunctional culture, so many people think that meaningful relationships just "happen" like magic. They don't take the time to "cultivate" those relationships. I often invite friends over for dinner and they never return the invite. They are still my friends; it's just strange that they don't feel a responsibility to return the invitation.

I'm thinking about this a lot as I work for the very poor in shelters and foodbanks. These spaces are full of large numbers of people interacting with one another. However, the energy of these spaces is what I would call "desperate hysteria". It generates a kind of craziness. I wonder if it actually creates even more illness for this large community of people in our country who are so often forgotten in our critiques of culture. What about these kinds of relationships so prevalent in the poor communities?

No! Extroverts which is the majority may benefit. But as a functional medicine who understands one size does not fit all, introverts may not benefit the same way.

Many people are happy by themselves. I would rather protect myself from insecure... people. By myself, without distraction, I live a happy life-- in communion with nature, the arts... Sustainable real happiness-- whichever way. I like dr Hyman, but this presentation is BS.

You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health.
Lower stress, reduce obesity and more exercise are key to a healthy life.
Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world.
Fast food and sugary drinks are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity.
Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly.
Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices.
Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.
Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer.
Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game.
A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility.
Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun.
Every city should be a bicycle city.
Speak up for bicycles in your community

Buddhism is NOT about "suffering"!! Buddhism is a complex spirituality that is founded essentially on the lesson of "All is nothing and nothing is all." This lesson tries to capture the absolute subjectivity of the human experience. Buddhism like every other spiritual practice explores many, many sujects around the human condition and experience. What Buddhism teaches about the single subject of "suffering" is that humans often are creating their own suffering. IT IS NOT A RELIGION THAT PROMOTES SUFFERING!! THAT ANALYSIS IS AN INSULT TO EVERY BUDDHIST.

    • @bjkina
      @bjkina Рік тому +1

Nobody said that. Suffering arises from living in the past and future; it is important to understand this to be real, free, happy.

"Buddhists find it neither optimistic nor pessimistic, but realistic. Fortunately the Buddha's teachings do not end with suffering; rather, they go on to tell us what we can do about it and how to end it".
