This coffee has been viral in Korea during quarantine time, then it got viral on TikTok and now it is very trendy all over the internet.
Dalgona Coffee is a cold latte drink that comes with a velvety smooth and sweet coffee foam on top. The combination of cold milk and the bittersweet coffee is absolutely delicious. Dalgona coffee is inspired by the South Korean dalgona candy, a toffee sponge that resembles the creamy dollop that tops the ice coffee.

This recipe makes 2 medium servings
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons Instant coffee
2 tablespoons Sugar
2 tablespoons Hot water
1/2 cup (120ml) Milk of your choice
2-3 Ice cubes
Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl place coffee, sugar and hot water (1:1:1 ratio).
2. Using a hand mixer or electric mixer, whisk until thick and creamy.
3. Fill only 3/4 of a cup with cold milk and add ice cubes.
4. Top it up with foamy whipped coffee. Mix well before drink. Enjoy!
Notes:
• Do I have to use sugar? The sugar helps the coffee whip to a fluffy and stable texture that holds its shape for a while. You can reduce sugar amount, but I’m not sure it will be so fluffy. If you’re really sensitive to sugar, you can reduce it down, just know that your coffee won’t be as fluffy.
• What kind of milk to use: You can use cow’s milk, dairy free milk such as almond milk, oat milk or any other kind of milk that you prefer.
• Can I make Dalgona coffee without electric mixer? Yes, you can whip the coffee using a regular whisk, it may take a little bit more time, but it absolutely possible.

Man... When covid first hit in march 2020, i remember lots of people were making this and sharing it online. Although i never interacted with the community, I did follow the directions like this video. seeing everyone making this and posting it online made it feel like we were all in the same boat and that we'd get out of the lockdown together. Lol idk how else to explain it but it was kinda nice
Tip: instead of hand whisking, combine the ingredients in a little container, close the lid and shake. It takes much less time to reach the foamy state like that :)

Happy memories :). I remember i used to make this all the time last year. :) i used to wake up at 4:30, whisk for like 1-2 hours, and by the time it was done, I wasn’t tired anymore 🥲
As soon as I finished watching this I headed to the kitchen. Easy to whip, heavenly foamy. A big thank you for this recipe
I'm not ashamed of how this took me 30 minutes to whisk by hand. The result was amazing.
when you do it manually, put less water to make it faster. The trick is gradually adding sugar to wet coffee. Sugar will instantly make it harder to whisk with less water. Add more after the sugar in the container gets dissolved. This way, you'll also use less sugar, if you're concerned about that. We used to have 15minute breaks at work and it would usually be enough time to make, vigorously whisk between chatting, and enjoy a good cup of hot coffee around the lobby table. When you use hot milk or water, just dump it fast over the mix. You can mix in the cup itself.

It's like the Greek frappe. Very similar. The difference is you blend the coffee with water (and sugar depending on your preferences) and then you add ice, milk and/or cold water. You can use a frappe mixer (hand or electric)
I just made this recipe and it was sooooooo good. Totally recommend it
Try this is you want to make it into a frothy mocha:
- *1 Tbsp cocoa powder*
- *1 Tbsp instant coffee*
- *2 Tbsp sugar*
- *2 Tbsp water*
*Mix with a handmixer until fluffy unless you have a really strong wrist lol
- *serve over whole milk* (you could add cream to make it more tasty)

For those who have trouble getting it with the mixer, I recommend doing this in a mug or glass and removing 1 mixer from the mixer (If it has 2). In a few minutes, you will have it. I say this because I still struggled for about 15 minutes if I did it on a bowl.
I had these in Korea and they're so good I had to try it at home and it's a succes! I'm going to have to experiment with some different instant coffees but the whipping went surprisinly well (with an electric mixer)

This was really good!!!! For the people not liking the bitterness, I made it with 4 table spoons of sugar instead of 2. Then instead of regular milk, I used vanilla almond milk. The drink was sweet and delicious:) only took about 5 minutes to make with an electric mixer

I made this 3 hours ago from the time this comment comes out, and this is amazing. I didnt think the amount of water or coffee was enough in the bowl but it slowly expanded into a nice big thick paste. I might consider making this every morning, this coffee is amazing and every should try this out. The ingredients needed to make this are slim. Great video.

If I can recall correctly, back in depression era of 20s and 30s, people used to make frosting on their cakes with sugar and cold water, much like what is seen in this video. Interesting how trends just come back, but used in a different way :)

I think a lot of things are going to come back into style from the depression-era; food, saving on money, resources, stuff like that. I'm not saying quarantine and the depression are the same thing, which they're clearly not, but things have a way to come back into fashion or common use.

If you put the froth in first and add water instead of milk you've made frappé which is very popular in Greece during the summer. You don't even really need hot water or a whisk.
Hellene_On_Caffeine yes!!!! I’m from ohio but lived in Greece for a few years and fell in love with Frappes and hanging out at outdoor cafes. I make frappes all the time in the warm weather and add a little milk too and less sugar. They are delicious.

tip: if you have the luxury of owning a hand mixer use it with one prong and whip the instant coffee in the cup you’re going to drink out of! it whips up a lot faster and uses less dishes! the whipped portion will still float to the top after you pour in your milk, and i also find that it mixes a lot better this way vs with the coffee whip at the top :)
I've been making something similar for years - Greek frappé! Use a handheld milk frothing wand and build the drink right in your glass. Its cool watching the layers seperate when you add cold water and milk/cream to top it up.
Trying this today with vanilla flavored almond milk.

My notes about it; ppl who will try this, if you are a sweet tooth this is little bitter so I would add more sugar, less coffee. And you need to mix a lot to get into cream like texture. But you get really great creamy texture.

i found a GREAT way to make this even better. either before you put the milk in the cup or after you have everything in the cup, put some golden syrup in! it tastes EXACTLY like a Starbucks caramel frappuccino! you could also substitute the syrup for chocolate, rasberry or strawberry sauce or vanilla extract or crumble cookies into it if you want. but this makes jt taste EVEN BETTER. its literally just like homemade starbucks.
