    I would suggest trying to do one underexposed shoot in raw instead of using bracketed shots. Then if you have PtGui use built in feature of creating a HDR image from a single exposure raw file. Software like Aurora HDR and Photomatix also can do it. I have tried a few times and there is no much difference between merging -2, 0, +2 brackets with generating HDR from a single exposure raw shoot done at -2EV.
    Some trying to do it wrong creating needed brackets from a raw file in Lightroom and then merging into HDR. This may produce a greater HDR image but it will take much more time comparing to PtGui, Aurora or Photomatix generating extra brackets behind a scene.
    I also use Canon 5DS and Canon 8-15mm lens but I prefer a motorised Mecha head. It eliminates a problem when you start forgetting if you pressed a shutter at a specific rotation or not. It is not that hard to miss if you are distracted by someone around or simply miss it because it is your 10th or 100s set at a place.

      I also don't understand why many use the -2, 0, +2 brackets when there is the option for -3, 0, +3!? I always use the -3, 0, +3 on my 5DsR and let Lightroom automatically stack the images by time and batch convert them to 32bit DNG files. I then develop these 32bit DNG files which is a huge difference and export these as TIFF to PTGUI. This always gives my the cleanest results.

    Mic I used to shoot all my 360 with the DSLR on a full frame Sony A7r. I had a very tall tripod and had great fun taking the photos. Its ideal for GIGA panos but its hard to beat the efficiency of the Panono. I never use my DSLR anymore because there is so little difference between the end result. Particularly if you are viewing the images on a VR head set. I guess the real reason for using the DSLR setup is if you are viewing the image on a screen and you want to zoom in for detail. Great video and another alternative for 360 photographers.

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому

      Thanks Joe! I agree the biggest benefit for DSLR panos is for viewing on a PC where the user can zoom in! Yes if you're comparing to Panono, on a VR headset, it's virtually the same, which is why I'm a fan of the Panono as well. 😁 But we need to remind other people that Panono cannot be used in tight spaces like small bathrooms or car interiors. Best regards, Mic

    • @LittlePlanet
      @LittlePlanet 6 років тому +4

      The Panono does not have a high dynamic range, can't shoot properly in low light, and has plenty of parallax problems in small spaces. It has a great resolution, but a lot of flaws for a convenient high-end professional workflow.

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому

      Hi Peter. Have you used Panono recently? Because now it does take HDR -- 3 shots, I believe around 2ev apart, and it will blend them in the cloud while stitching. It also now has manual exposure option, so you can shoot in low light, although I don't recall what is the slowest shutter speed. But you're right it still has parallax problems in small spaces. Here is a sample from Panono with HDR mode. roundme.com/tour/273673/view/839637 If that's not what you meant, I apologize. :) Best regards, Mic

    • @LittlePlanet
      @LittlePlanet 6 років тому +1

      Yes I used it recently. But the quality difference is huge, compared to a high-end DSLR. It performs ok in overcast exterior locations but you can get quicker and better results with a DSLR. When you are out on a shoot during an event, the wifi connection will also be an issue, and having to wait for a server generated stitch is simply not an option. It will be good for very specific use cases, but it isn't a reliable professional tool imho /Peter

    • @joejacobsen8421
      @joejacobsen8421 6 років тому +1

      Yes Peter the big difference is between professional 360 photos for commercial work vs location photos for viewing on a VR headset.

      Thanks Joao! Actually a 15mm full frame fisheye can work but 3 things to make it work: 1) you need to roll the camera diagonally. 2) you need to take 8 shots and 3) there will be a star-shaped hole in the bottom of the sphere. Will a Samyang 8mm work on a Sony A6000 crop sensor to get a Partial circular fisheye? From what I read up, it only provides a 180 view diagonally, but not on the long edge. How is this different from the Sigma 8mm example given in the video?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому +1

      Hi Emilio! Sigma is a traditional fisheye, while Samyang 8mm uses a stereographic projection, so Samyang 8mm on Sony a6000 is full frame fisheye. It can still work in diagonal mode but there will be a star shaped hole in the bottom. Just wondering, when you tilt your camera to take a vertical shot (nadir or zenith) the way this head works (2:42) doesn't set the camera off the nodal point?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. When you tilt the head for the nadir shot, it is not at the nodal point, so sometimes ptgui can't align the nadir correctly, in which case I use it as a manual patch in affinity or photoshop.

    I'm starting to get into 360 Virtual Tours. Was contemplating buying the Theta Z1 which you and Ben reviewed.
    I do have a Panasonic Lumix G9 and was thinking of buying the Olympus Fisheye 8mm f1.8 Lens and the Nodal Ninja R20 or R1. Would this be a possible set up and would I just have to take 4 photos like Peter demonstrated?

      @360vroomers  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Justin. If you have an unedited sample of the Olympush 8 f/1.8, see if it is either circular or cropped. If it is a diagonal fisheye it is still possible but you will need more shots, and there will be a hole in the bottom of the nadir. Hey there Mind Blowing Videoes! Yes that sigma 8mm on an apsc sensor body would be a good combination for use with the r1. But i am not familiar with Canon's lineup. Just make sure you can do manual exposure, manual focus, manual white balance, shoot in raw, and it should have some type of focus assist that will zoom in to the area you are focusing.

      Hi Won Kee. I did some research, and if you don't have any DSLR or mirrorless camera right now, I was able to put together a kit that should produce good results, and the total would be $952 excluding tripod and excluding memory card (you can use the micro sd adapter to use the micro SD cards that you have). 360rumors.com/2018/06/nodal-ninja-r-series-tutorial.html
      Or if you have almost any camera, preferably a camera with wide angle mode, you can use it with the Nodal Ninja 3: ua-cam.com/video/uBXWgrUgfKI/v-deo.html It will cost less.
      Another possibility is to use a GoPro Hero 5 or Hero 6 and a Pano5+1 mk ii. That will get very nice results too (65mp). 360rumors.com/2017/07/pano51-mk-ii-review-demo-take-65mp-360-photos-raw.html

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Marc! Yes you can use the r1 with the 8-15 fisheye! On aps-c you would use 10mm and it will be a diagonal fisheye. It will take 8 shots and there will be a star shaped hole in the nadir.
      On full frame, you can use 12mm and it will be a cropped partial circular fisheye (4 shots). Or for more detail you can use 15mm and it will be a full frame diagonal fisheye that will require 8 shots, and there will be a star shaped hole in the nadir.

    How well does 15mm work if you rotate the camera 45° in the ring to cover 180° from top to bottom? Does it cover the full sphere if you shoot 6 or 8 images in one row?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому

      Hi Aaron. It's an honor to 'meet' you! Thank you very much for watching the video that Peter and I made! To your question, AFAIK 15mm would not cover 180 degrees on the long side at full frame. To cover 180 on the long side at full frame, the widest lens is 12mm i believe. However, with a ring mount adapter, It is possible to use a full frame fisheye rotated so that its diagonal covers the top and bottom barely, then tilt it a bit to cover the zenith, but there will be a gap in the nadir -- how large the tilt is will depend on the lens, sensor size etc. Please note I haven't tried this myself yet, but this is the approach used by the tomshot 360 for some lenses, such as the samyang 8mm 2.8 on aps-c. with 6 or 8 shots. Their website has been down for a while but here is an archived page web.archive.org/web/20170811013659/www.tomshot360.com:80/supported-lenses

      I think Thomas Bredenfeld shoots this way, rotated 30° or something in a lens ring, and tilted up 7.5° at 15mm with the R1 for higher resolution, and just patching the small nadir where the tripod is anyway. I'll give it a try when I get around to ordering a lens ring. ;-)

What you have to choose is to take the 8 shots with a multi-row panohead (6 horizontal + 1 zenith + 1 nadir) or to take them diagonally with a single-row panohead (8 shots single row). Multi-row takes more time but is easier to stitch. Single row is faster but there will be a star-shaped hole in the bottom. See my updated post 360rumors.com/2018/06/nodal-ninja-r-series-tutorial.html
      Best regards,
      Mic

      @vag878 4 роки тому

      I think you can also set the pano head about 5° towards the zenith and just put a little planet version of the whole photo on the ground? Then you would only need 4 positions and if you use bracketing, you Will save some time and space on your memorycard.

    Hi Mike,
    A little bit confused on how to check the nodal point with a Samyang 12 mm f 2.8 manual lens. Since this lens does not have auto focus, it becomes difficult to judge middle of the lens, like when you turn the lens downwards to the bubble where you can focus the center of the lens with any other lens having the auto focus. I hope you understood what I mean. How do I achieve this? I have a Canon EOSR. Use a Nodal Ninja 3 mk 3.

    Will a Laowa Venus Optics 12mm F2.8 lens on a7R2 achieve a high res 360 using the Nodal ninja R1?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  5 років тому +1

      Hi Ry Clark. No, for spherical photos, it cannot. NN R1 can only create 360 photos with fisheye lenses. You can use the Venus 12 2.8 and a7R II with the Nodal Ninja 6 or possibly Nodal Ninja 3. See my tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/uBXWgrUgfKI/v-deo.html . I haven't shot a 360 with a rectilinear ultrawide, but believe for the Venus 12 2.8 with 111 degrees HFOV, it will take 12 shots to do a sphere (2 rows of 5 shots each, plus zenith and nadir). Alternatively, if you use the Samyang 12 2.8 with the a7R II, it can be done with 1 row of 8 shots (the samyang 12 2.8 must be rolled around 30 degrees) although there will be a star-shaped hole in the nadir. amzn.to/2MFGUgr .

    What is the equivalent of partial circular fisheye ‘Canon 8-15L’ for Nikon full frame please ?

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому

      Hi Coline. For full frame, you can use the Nikon 10.5 fisheye for APS-C and shave the hood off. If you do that, it becomes a cropped / partial circular fisheye. If you want an option where you don't have to shave the hood, you can use the Nikon 8-15 (the hood is removable) or the Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 which also has a removable hood. Finally, it is also possible to use a diagonal fisheye with the R series. You'll need to tilt the camera diagonally, take 8 shots, and there will be a star-shaped hole in the nadir. Hi Cleopatra, I just found your email. I hope you don't mind if I respond here so the community can benefit from the answer. *If you prefer to discuss privately just let me know and i'll delete this comment.*
      First of all, wow that sounds like an awesome project! If you are new to 360, I would NOT recommend shooting a DSLR panorama, unless you *really* want very high image quality . It is more difficult compared to shooting with a 360 camera, and since you will be traveling a lot, you'll probably be taking a lot of photos. Also, a 360 camera can take 360 videos, whereas a DSLR cannot be used for 360 videos (unless you want to use a 360 dslr rig which is very expensive and hard to use).
      So, for a camera, I would recommend one of these:
      1. Xiaomi Mi Sphere - easy to use, good image quality, ok stabilization. Review: ua-cam.com/video/9I1foCuP0YI/v-deo.html
      2. Insta360 One - easy to use, GREAT stabilization. ok image quality. ua-cam.com/video/6weD4EeyLVs/v-deo.html
      3. Ricoh Theta V - easy to use, ok stabilization, good image quality. But you can only record around 30 mins at a time. The memory is not expandable. After that you need to transfer to your computer. ua-cam.com/video/U4yUTKr4Sr8/v-deo.html
      4. GoPro Fusion - easy to use, GREAT image quality, great stabilization, waterproof. but to stitch the 360 videos, you need a computer with a dedicated graphics card such as GTX 1050ti. If you have iOS it can stitch 360 videos on the phone. My review: ua-cam.com/video/3IB_WZurcls/v-deo.html
      5. Garmin Virb 360 ($799) - easy to use, good image quality, waterproof. but more expensive than the others. ua-cam.com/video/syDrnktJ2xA/v-deo.html
      6. Samsung Gear 360 2017 ($100) - easy to use, good image quality, ok stabilization but takes a very long time to stitch. here is my review ua-cam.com/video/STV9rkvWvBk/v-deo.html&index=6&list=PLtGqGHDrZeFjY3-OBvHwBCdieFhL-yQEh
      Second, you asked what virtual tour software to use. DON'T use cupix. cupix is not cheap and requires many photos to create a virtual tour. Instead i recommend veer. It's free and has all the features that most people need. here is a tutorial ua-cam.com/video/wSTy_MNXln8/v-deo.html you can try it out here bit.ly/freevirtualtour

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому +1

      Chris71319 hey there Chris! For full frame fisheyes like yours, it is easier to get a clean pano with a multi-row pano like Nodal Ninja 3. This is the most basic one: partners.nodalninja.com/91715/7391/url_4266
      If you use the R series, there will be a star shaped hole in the nadir. If you will patch it anyway then it's ok. But it's probably about the same as the tomshot you have.

    • @ChristiaanRoest79
      @ChristiaanRoest79 6 років тому +1

      Thanks Mic, yes i need a panohead so i can face the camera upwards and downwards to make a full 360 panorama (with nadir and zenith). I just tested my new samyang 7,5 mm lens and this is the result kuula.co/post/7P9X0. Not bad but i miss the zenith and nadir. I know how to fix the zenith in photoshop but it takes too much time to do this for multiple photo's. I stiched the images with panorama studio pro. According to this programme the output size of the panorama is arround 80/90 mb but after saving the image to my computer its arround 40 mb. Dunno why because i saved it with the highest file size. I made a handheld picture from the nadir just like you did in this tutorial but i saw my shoes and the stiching wasnt optimal haha

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому

      Hi Chris! Just saw your photo. Did you orient your camera diagonally? Since you were using a full frame fisheye, the diagnonal should be vertical.
      Re file size do you mean the actual file size or the resolution (megapixels)? if you right click on it and check properties, what is the resolution?
      Re patching nadir, i will make a tutorial. It should be automatic in panorama studio 3 pro. if not, you can mask out your shoes. then stitch as normal.

    • @ChristiaanRoest79
      @ChristiaanRoest79 6 років тому +1

      360Rumors.com hey Mic, the file size is 41.8 mb. 13040x6520 pixels and horizontal and vertical resolution is 96 dpi. Bitdeph 24. I dont know about the orientation of the camera. I placed the lens in the tomshot and after that i attached them to the camera. The camera was vertically placed on the tripod. I dont mind removing a tripod afterwards in the nadir but dont like shooting handheld. I really need a nodal ninja. I still have to experiment with the camera settings. This was my first 360 photo made with the panasonic and samyang lens. Just uploaded it so see how it looks like. The image quality aint bad but i need to work on the settings to improve it. I didnt edit the 360 photo. Was straight out of the camera. I know how to patch the nadir but i dont like a logo. Just want the actual floor underneath the camera. Regards, Chris

    • @360vroomers
      @360vroomers  6 років тому +1

      Hi Chris! For tomshot, I believe your camera needs to be diagonal, not vertical, but i'm not sure bec i never had one. For precise captures of the nadir,Nodal Ninja has a nadir adapter for the Nodal Ninja 3, which will let you rotate the panohead outward and shoot a clean nadir. Here is the NN3 with nadir adapter. partners.nodalninja.com/91715/7391/url_4269
