    Really enjoyed it.

ONLY because of you doing this; I went to Tesco today and I bought a Tsingtao Lager together with a Singha and I also bought a Tyskie to find out why so many Polish anglers leave their bottles at our fisheries. (BAH!) So tonight I opened the Tsingtao and . . . it certainly is a beautiful lager. Love it! And that despite I don't like buying stuff from China, but I promise, this is an exceptional lager. Well worth the money and I got the 3 bottles for £5.50. I will drink the Singha and Tyskie on other nights (because I'm diabetic and have to limit my intake), but I do love this Tsingtao. SURPRISED! 😲

If you're interested in getting 4 or 5 of the same type of glass (since you always bring it up with these beer tests), you could head up to Wilko's. They sell pilsner and ale pint glasses forunder £2 a piece. I like to have the same type of glassware so it all looks consistent and I don't personally like logos on my glasses.
You've got some great glassware though, I don't think having different glasses influences perception of the beer *that* much...

Good choice - Krombacher takes some beating. Probably my favourite - full of flavour but not too malty and not over strong. Lowenbrau is lovely but at 5.2% is bit too strong for any sort of session. Different type - but Whistable Bay pale ale is a current favourite and well with checking out.

Singha is not the beer that it was when originally imported from Thailand and it's also down in strength from the original 6%ABV. The Shephed Neame version isn't bad, but it's not a patch on the original.
Tsingtao is still the great beer it always was.
I originally came across Tsingtao in Hong Kong in 1993 and couldn't understand why all the expats never drank it, but preferred Carlsberg and Heineken, which to me were awful. When I discovered that the port of Tsingtao (Qingdao) was built up by the Germans back in colonial days and that after building their trading facilities, the first thing they did was build a brewery, it became obvious why the beer was so good. It's brewed under the same beer purity standards that the Germans brought with them. It's great that it's easily available in the UK and every time I drink it, I pray that they don't ever allow it to be brewed under licence in the UK. It's only £5.50p for three large bottles in Tesco and although I'm a draught beer drinker in the pub, I always have some Tsingtao in the fridge..

I first went out to Hong Kong in 1980 and drank Tsingtao at seafood restaurants in Lamma and Po Toi (my Dad, an expat, was preparing me for a long life of beer drinking). I worked in Hong Kong from 1994 to 2014 and at some point Tsingtao became an inferior drink as they added rice to the mix whereas previously they had followed strict German purity laws. I had many trips to Thailand and Singha went down hill in 2005 when they reduced the alcohol content from 6% down to 5%. Most expats preferred to drink Philippines-brewed San Miguel rather than the Hong Kong-brewed San Miguel, imported Carlsberg and Heineken.

I'm surprised that TsingTao made it this so far. I was thinking at the beginning "oh I personally like that beer very much, but he might put it off the shelf soon"... Guess not 😄
A local chinese restaurant with a very good reputation and high quality standards "De Nieuwe Chinese Muur" near my place at the Bergse Dorpsstraat sells the TsingTao (bottled).
I was a bit sceptical the last time I was there ordering it and saw the "green" bottle and thought "it might get skunked" but It didn't and after that I ordered 4 more and none of 'm skunked.
I knew from my father that the restaurant owner (James Wang) always wanted high quality standards for their fresh food, food for delivery and also these green bottled beers I guess.

Thanks Simon for this Top 10 Supermarket Bottled Lager review. I think it was a very good comparison for the majority who might be going to pick up their usual and either can't find it or want to try something better. From experience whilst I was simply someone who enjoyed a lager but wanted something new it's not really any different these days than back in the 80s /90s (?) when a number of US and Canadian brands were introduced. By and large I loved most more than Carling and Tennents that were typical of the day. All went to pot once they were brewed here 🙁. Good to see you gave Tsingtao a fair crack as it's one great beer that no matter where you are, it is always the same. 🍻

I appreciate how the pronunciation of Tsingtao becomes more difficult over time. 😆 Although it's spelt Tsingtao on the bottle it sounds more like Ching-dao (青島). That was all over the place Simon, had to watch it over 6 sessions, even The Ice Cream Van was hinting you missed the Ice Cream Concentrate.
I guessed wrong on the outcome when I seen the Thumbnail.
    Have tried them all.
Here's an idea, you could do a sequel, there's easy another 10 you didn't include you could do the same again. Leave in the mispronunciation, farts, burps, wrong names the lot!
What's those folded up bits of branded cardboard on the bar?....let me think........Beer Mats, they're Beer Mats! (London Beer Festival) gaff😂
    Cheers Simon. 💥

Just natural, the burps make me laugh though. I love this channel, proper beer drinking community. We should all meet up for a beer one day. It is great, I'm having a 538ml Draught Guinness from LIDL, can't get them anywhere else. Gorgeous widget can. Love you all, Jon

If I was running a beer UA-cam channel, I would have ten of the same glass. I would buy the best general beer glass, maybe a fluted goblet, from a discounter, and use them for all my videos

have to say I am not surprised by the Tsingtao as have drunk it a few times and it really is very good, having said that I wish you had included the Aldi Rossini Gran Riserva as I think that would have been up there with the best as well

I was over in the UK recently and tried a number of these supermarket beers. I was pleasantly surprised by the Stella Artois Unfiltered, but agree with you wrt that slight tinniness. I also sampled Madri (both bottle and from tap) and quite enjoyed it.
Tsingtao is an absolute classic - I've always loved that stuff. As I live in Germany, I tend to avoid Krombacher, Paulaner, Warsteiner and co. I've never tried Steinhauser, but will seek it out next time I'm in the UK.
Cheers for the entertaining and informative review!

More tea vicar? Great video! Tonight I did my own tasting with fewer beers than you tho. I had Paulaner Munchen Hell, Hofbrau, Orgininal, Bitburg and my wife got me a couple of bottles of Ikea Dark Lager which was quite good really. I wasn't able to pick a winner but at least with much less burping and farting 🙄

Tried a warsteiner last night as I'd not had one for years because I didn't like it. Thought I'd try it again and didn't finish it. Really not for me. The rest on the list are great to ok for me.
Quite like the porreti and surprised you didn't have a posh Carling (Madri) in there😂
If i was looking at the shelf you did I'd take the Budvar or paulaner first though🍻

Was going to suggest you tried Victoria Malaga lager but just seen your review a year ago. Glad you like it. It's one of the three 660ml bottles for £5.50 in Tesco. Also managed to recently find it at my local Heron Foods for just £1.35 a bottle. Bargain.

I love the pilsner urquell and always grab a fresh tank beer when it's on offer. Budvar is good, staropromen is also decent. The bottle of staropromen you have there is the import, not the UK version. You can tell by the cream cap. The UK brewed version is different

I'm glad you didn't do Corona because for a premium lager, the quality is pretty poor and all I got off it was a weak taste and a banging headache. I used to drink it quite a bit, took me a while to notice how bad it really was, and now I'll never go back to it. I'd rather have a can of McEwans. No actually, now I think about it, that's rhetorical. Nothing is that bad, but you get my point..
