Probablement une des meilleures vidéos que j’ai pu voir concernant la composition du pedalboard de David Guilmour! Excellente prestation de Guillaume comme d’habitude!
I put together a pedalboard at home so that it sounded like David Gilmour, and the best, and also relatively cheap, came out of the effects from MXR. Beautiful and solid sound.
@@francescocagnacci Great ... you seem to know a lot regarding David ... wasn't sure about the Echorec ... my Band had a WEM Copycat in the late 70 ... so this was the "easy one" 4 me
Try doing a Hendrix board, only because the old Experience Museum in Seattle had a setup that let you play around with vintage (or at least reissue) pedals like a Vox wah, the Uni-vibe, fuzz face and an Octavia (Roger Mayer changed that thing so much over the years that there’s no definitive circuit for it). (The pedals were inside the box, visitors just sort of remotely manipulated them. I know because I saw them fixing it and there really was a Uni-Vibe (with the speed control pedal) inside the box!)
Well executed gilmour playing! This is definitely a reasonable facsimile of the tone. That tube monster and the muff are hookin you up with plenty of sustain there. Kinda surprised at the tube monster thing there is only a hundred bucks or so. I just picked up the new Flamma FX10 headphone amp, if you throw a good overdrive in front of it, it covers most of this ground also pretty well, but obviously with less knobs, less features and a smaller footprint. Not sure if Thomann sells that unit but I expect you would/will. It has fantastic amp models from fender clean to chunky and crunchy British, and even nails really high gain amps too. Really does work best with a boost in front of it. Maybe the next version they'll add in a boost button or a gain control.
David Gilmour pedalboard on a budget to get an authentic sound : - Boss bd-2 overdrive - Electro harmonix crayon overdrive - Electro harmonix ram's head reissue big muff - Mooer E-lady flanger - Mooer ensemble king chorus - Boss cs-3/mxr dynacomp compressor Tc Electronic flashback II delay.
I think he should have the volume on the tube pedal much higher and the eq on that pedal is brilliant I have one that I modded, and once he turned on the muff it turned to mush s you say needs to be more crisp ,rat sounded great
Oh, man, not being able to get "That Classic Gilmour Tone" has been an inside joke between my friends and me for like 25 years. This may end it once and for all.
Cool ! How about doing that sounds only using Harley Benton stuff? From guitar, and pedals to the 15 W tube combo? Can you do this as close as possible with a big board to have the space for stacking pedals? I'm so curious and will wait for it as long as i can (I'm not known for having much patience 😂) Go on with your stuff, like to see / hear more of you
I know that Gilmour is using Switching Systems to turn parts of his effect chain on and off. I saw pictures of his rig of pulse tour and I saw pictures of Mark Knopflers Rack during his US tour with Clapton in 88 and they were quiet the same ...
You forgot the amazing Keeley Dark Side , granted , it has limitations as it can’t modulate a delay , but , for about £200 second hand now you could buy two and be totally sorted , it’s worth it for the tape head delay sounds alone .. alone ... alone .... alone .... 🤣👍 .. ps you can’t buy Gilmour’s fingers / touch and feel so it’s all a hit and a hope with his sound but in a loud band mix no one would really know
Probably worth mentioning most of the gilmour tone is in the fingers, you set your amp on the edge so it breaks up nicely when you play loud, and cleans up when you back off. But you still have to saturate the preamp and power amp enough to get the sustain, therefore overdrive pedals are a must.
Yeah I love those series! This focuses more on the assembly of the board, some best practices and so on, so I hope there's something to take away from here as well ;)
Great video ! Thanks ! I see lots of debates about THE Gilmour sound(s) everyone is sharing its opinion on ... that's amazing how passionate (and great to be), people are about him and his music ... but I guess, most of the "home" guitar players (who represent 99,9% of the guitar players 😁) are just trying to get "closer" to Gilmour's sound without really wanting to sound exactly like him (which, as we all know, is not possible unless you are Gilmour ...) or, most importantly, without having the right budget to invest in all the gears he uses. Now if you want Gilmourish' sounds (and any other guitar hero) for less than 300 € , take a look and a try at the Nux MG-30 (or Valeton 200, or Mooer GE200) ... and there you are ... add a quality reverb maybe (Strymon's BigSky) and a great looper (Boss RC 500) ... plug all this in front and on the fx loop of a Boss Nextone Artist 80w amp (not a Katana, no ...) and ... you've got the perfect rig for the next 30 years ... But hey, we won't be guitar geeks if we were not spending thousands of $$ in gears we do not really need nor we do really use, right ? ... 😁😉🤘
Strange comments- Gilmour has NEVER used reverb or tape delay at all live. In fact most of his delays are pure digital or Echoplex. And he certainly didn't use reverb or chorus on Shine On! It's a delayed super compressed sound. And there's NO Reverb on Time, but loads of Univibe
tube monster is an amazing pedal...if it works. in most videos on that it does not and the reviewer does not realize it as he is hearing the diode clipping and not tube and it sounds crappy. if its working the tube will light up as a tube should. I have a few videos of that in my channel...
Thanks Mr. G for assembling this lovely battery of pedals to sound like the other Mr. G. When I tried to sound like the other Mr. G, I ended up buying the JHS Muffuletta. Funny thing is that the 73 rams head mode on it didn't really nail it for me, but it should. It was weird. I ended up using the JHS mode, don't judge me :| Bonus question: which compressor would you recommend that sits in between the Forcefield and all the high end compressors like the Cali76 or the new UAFX dual comp?
Gilmour used the DynaComp for many years pre-muff, and had a Boss compressor post-gain. Either one can get you there. Currently, he’s been using the Pc2a from Effectrode… one pre and one post.
I would argue that I would put together better board with given prompts :D Keeley Dark Side V2 - Gilmour in the box pedal. It has Big Muff style Fuzz, Delay and Modulations used by him - 370,37 € VHT AV-DB1 Dyna-Boost Pedal - Compressor and Boost - 2 pedals in 1. David also used ColourSound PowerBooster - 115,35 € Harley Benton MiniStomp Fuzzy Logic - Ge FuzzFace style - 19,87 € TC electronic Tube Pilot Overdrive - Tube Drive style - 59,41 € TC Electronic Magus Pro Distortion - Rat style - 79,75 € Catalinbread Echorec - Binson Echorec was famously used by Gilmour - 264,93 € Mooer ModVerb - trick used by Gilmour in studio... reverb into the phaser - 70,05 € There would be other options within given budget according what one prefer. Gilmour used two compressors at once. So ModVerb could be ditched for another one ie. with different styl of processing. FuzzFace style fuzz could be considered redundant. So it could be changed for flanger like Mooer E-Lady (modeled after EHX Electric Mistress also used by Gilmour). This would be better for live situation because it eliminates need for setting up the Dark Side for every song. Guillaume's pedalboard is 7/10 My pedalboard is 10/10 and I'm not even Gilmour stan :D
It'd be great to have a grunge sound on a budget, aiming at the sounds of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Silverchair and Pearljam. A MIKE EINZIGER from Incubus sound on a budget would be great too! Amazing video

Great point about where you get the most bang for your buck. Extra budget on modulation is smart.

curious about the tube monster. nice walkthrough and fun video format
