    I'm not a plumber, but I am an HVAC technician and I have found I get the most leverage by pushing rather than pulling. (just a little tech tip).

    When Steve says “ glad the shutoff valve worked” you only know what he means when an old valve fails on you. These older valve specially the ones that don’t get use often get build up and when you close them they fail . I had to change my heater recently and all the valves including the main shut off valve failed and what a mess.

    i finally got around to making my 5 gallon jug pan, and it went immediately under the rear axle of my truck so i could change the seal without decorating my driveway like i usually do. that was a great tech tip mama.

    I have never put pipe dope on my compression fittings and never had an issue, them again I clean the pipe with sand cloth before installing one so my ferrule doesn’t sit on any grooves

    If leak was on cistern why not change that or the flanges around the cistern

    I notice in the US the trap connecting to soil stack always below toilet base in floor. Here in UK we usually connect stack directly to rear of porcelain.

    part 2? oh oh. pouring lead maybe? flange looked pretty good. floor wasnt rotted. i sure like those flange bolts. i never saw those before.
    i dont care for the mansfield tank to bowl rubber coated bolts. They leak after a short time. i have changed a few to flat washers and bolts.
    i sometimes will cram a little plumbers putty in the holes those old bowl to floor screws make just to keep the floor water tite.

    You are so correct on not trying to fix it. If shits been left that long it's so much easier to replace with a functional cheap toilet.

    All I have to say is bless plumbers! As a carpenter I've done enough renos to know just how valuable it is having people that are willing to do this sort of stuff. My stomach isn't strong enough to do it myself unless it's my own toilet and pipes. Other people's funk is too much for me.

      It has something to do with water flush hitting the funnel and splashing back causing a potential leak over time... I think I saw him explain it a few years ago.

    I'm curious about final bill. I'm guessing about 350? I do the same jobs as you. I like your suction tube. Did you make that? I tip mine from side to side in a fire gallon bucket get almost all the water out , then I slide the old toilet out in new toilet box.

    Yeah, “from hell” tells me we are probably going to see that lead closet elbow with the right hand inlet from the tub get switched out. What do you think?

      I was thinking the same thing , except I was waiting for him to sand the pipe in case there was some copper that became sharp like if a burr formed and mucked up the plumbing.

      i needed a compression shutoff ,for this job thats all they had at the supply house i went to so i had no choice but to use a 1/4 turn style

    I always put a little bit of silicone on the tank to bowl gasket

      Plumbers silicone not caulking. The silicone ensures a good seal when joining the tank to the bowl.

      Yo, I get your point and yes why not but... I just re-did a toilet and what you see is really a wax ring. Even when you install a new one, it looks disgusting but really it is only aged wax.

    You have to add shims under the bowl or this will leak in a year. And don't say it didn't need it..... you have to check....very rare do I set a toilet without shims....one of the most important steps in setting a toilet.

      Just watched part 2....lol...Wood for leveling? Wood? ...and in the front of the bowl? nothing to prop up the rear?....where the closet ring is??? Guaranteed to be a total mess in a couple years.....if you can't figure out why...don't be telling me to "pay atten." lol...

      @@stevee7774 Hahahahah.....He tightens the closet bolts in part 1.....that's all I needed to see. 35 yrs in the Plumbers Union and 1,000's of brand new toilets (in brand new buildings) later I think I have a clue.... I plumbed complete custom houses by myself (from groundwork to finish) on the weekends before they stopped building houses in 08. Now I do a LOT of remodel.
      You sure get butt hurt easy for a lady.

      If you do that, then it adds so much weight, when you go to lift it over the closet bolts, it’s a real bitch to line up the holes.

      Probably the shower, looks to be a closet bend with a side outlet for the shower.

    Waiting for part 2. About 15 years ago changed the toilet at my grandma's house. The cast iron line was so rusted that the top ring broke when tightening up the bolt. Sealed it up best I could and to this day the toilet is held on by one bolt. Grandma left us 10 years ago and my cousin now owns the house.

    I hate tank to bowl unions. one-piece toilets are cheap enough now even for a crappy rental unit. save yourself an extra step and possible leak point. A 20-minute install. easy
