- I was out on a ride and decided to talk about the tires while out riding with everything fresh on my mind. These DOT knobby tires are not only awesome in the dirt but awesome on the street too. Softer and stickier with a little more rubber on the ground. I think the knobs also offer more cushion than the short hard knobs on the stock IRC's when riding off road.

Nice! I went with the same tire sizes as well. Went with the D606 in the back and the MT21 in the front. Pretty much what everyone else is doing lol. Love it so far.
I love M21s. They have been the go-to dual-purpose tire since the early 90s or so, and I have used them since then. For the last couple of years though I have just been going with full knobs, currently using Michelin Starcross 5 Mediums. My dealer usually stocks them and gives me a good deal. I only ride on asphalt 10 miles each way to get to the forest, and they are OK for that. And my goodness they are great once on the dirt.
Thanks for sharing!
I will be adding those tires! Thanks!
You're welcome. I sure like them!
Thanks for the information. I am looking between these, the Tusk DSports or Dunlop D606's. Just don't know which way to go, I would say I am 70/30 street to dirt riding ratio. Love my 300l though I have to say. Also what state are you located in? I am in the North East, not as many places to ride like you seem to have.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of those tire choices. I am in Washington state.
I run the DSports on the DRZ400 and love them for street, dirt, and for longevity and reasonable price.
The Dunlop D606 is better on the rear and M21 front - perfect combo
I've seen that combination mentioned around the internet, but I don't like to mis-match brands/tread patterns/rubber compounds. The Pirelli MT21 rear tire works excellent and lasts longer than the front one plus they match.
@@cyclerider5652 I’m surprised , I found the M21 rear one ☝️of the worst tires I have ever used and wore the quickest. Their is nothing wrong with using different tires ( it’s not a car we’re you should use the 2 same front or rears ) manufacturers want you to believe this so you buy both their tires . Anyway I’m from Australia and used and mixed most on and off road tyres over my 40 years of riding , most of my riding still is off road on one of my 4 bikes . Anyway just some friendly advice .
@@itsallabouttheridekeepingi4449 Is that tire combination good for rocky areas and mountain climbing? I was thinking of getting both MT21 front and rear as I can't find the original stock IRC in southern Europe where I am from. I am not riding in soil and mud, but on rock and gravel, and of course asphal road on the way to the mountain.
I know it’s a hard question to answer but how loud are they on pavement ?
I had kenda trackmaster 2’s on my KLX 300 and it was LOUD, like louder than the engine noise it seemed, and that was too loud for me. I’m about to get a set of these and they look awesome.
The Pirellis make some noise too, but it doesn't bother me. I never think about it. I only really notice the noise when slowing down from highway speed. I can hear the change in pitch of the tires sound as I slow down. I like the sound the tires make when slowing down from highway speed. It reminds me of a jet engine winding down. When at highway speed, like over 50mph there is so much wind and engine noise, it's hard for me to tell how much noise is from the tires.
@@cyclerider5652 thanks
What size is the rear tire?
120/90/18
Hi,do you think it´s possible mount a 140 rear?
I'm sure a 140 would be too wide. I ran a 130 on my XR250L and it barely fit.
what is size on the rear?
120/90/18
Would these tires work on a Suzuki Hayabusa?
The Hayabusa's 188 HP would sure make it a handful on the street running knobbies as opposed to the CRF300L's 27 HP!
@@cyclerider5652 street? I run the GSX off road.
@@cyclerider5652 🤭🤭
do those hum a lot on the pavement???
Yes, very much.
@@cyclerider5652 thanks for letting me know
@@wlent3481 You're welcome. I like the sound the knobby tires make on the pavement. Especially when slowing down from speed. Sounds wicked!
The Dunlop 605s are horrible , half bald after 2 months, by comparison the stock IRCs I had for 2.5 yrs !
Good to know. The Pirelli MT21's wear out really fast on the street. Probably faster than the 605. The wear seems to slow down however, on the MT21 once its partially gone. The last half seems to last longer.
IRC ‘s ?
@@johnmclaughlin4802 The Pirelli's last longer on the last half. Probably because the knobs are shorter and flexing less would be my guess.
