For those saying playing lessons are not needed for worse players, consider this, I think you would be surprised how much on course training will help. Caddies can be hit or miss on terms of where to aim, green reading, etc. but that's not what a playing lesson is supposed to be. A playing lesson will help you understand the nuance of a round of golf and teach you how to score better. Lou Stagner (one of the top stats guys with Arccos golf) recently revealed with Arccos data that the average 0 handicap golfer makes 2.2 birdies per round while the average 20 handicaper makes 0.3 birdies per round. This tells us is that the main difference between an extremely good AM golfer and a weekend warrior is not birdies and good shots, but the avoidance of mistakes. Now I'm not saying "go out and only take playing lessons" but consider this also, if you take a playing lesson it's not one dimensional. Your coach is not only there to help you score better with strategy but they will also work on your swing in a playing environment. I would suggest to everyone who has the opportunity - take lessons. But also consider going out with a pro on the course to learn how to apply what you're working on. The better you are the more your lessons should be on course. For example, if you're a 20 handicap taking lessons from a pro, consider 2-3 swing lessons for every 1 playing lesson. Where if you are an exceptional AM, you should look to have 2-3 playing lessons for every 1 swing lesson you get. In conclusion, everyone will have their own formula for how to play their best, but if you're a golfer who says "I just keep playing / getting lessons but I never get better" consider that there is a good chance that course management and a playing lesson will make the difference for you.
I've had several priceless on course lessons. Once you have a reasonable swing, that's when you learn to actually play the game of golf - and that happens on the course, not on the range. With a coach, a better player or simply someone who has an opinion on your swing/shot/strategy - for me this is where the improvement comes. Keep rocking Matt! Caddy no good, but coach is fine!
The help of your pro slowing you down just a bit and allowing you to focus on the golf shot and not just your UA-cam obligation obviously made a positive impact 👍 great 9 😊
An actual lesson where you learn a lot is priceless. A lesson where you have to continuously ask for advice on the shot, lie etc. makes it difficult to quantify the value (supplied by the coach). I want a coach that is proactive and takes away the little voices and uncertainty in my head. Guide my thoughts too please... But besides all of this, any lesson is worth gold, even if you get just one thing from it. Where I am living (Namibia) a lesson averages about N$450/hour, which I happily pay. So about $30 USD.
Not ever had an on course lesson before. Clearly you’re at a different level but for me I’d want more swing analysis/coaching rather than course management. A caddy should do that no? Enjoyed the video
Your putting comment on hole #2 is spot on. In the 15 rounds I played this year, I had at least 40 putts at birdie (I'm a 20 handicap) and didn't make a single one. Yet I holed out at least 40 putts for par or bogey from outside of 10 feet. Whaddaplaya ... Whaddaguru!
The value of this lesson comes from having someone confirm your thought process and giving you different ideas of what you could do. We get stuck in see distance, hit this club mentality. When you have to explain to someone what you want to do, you get feedback from thinking “maybe that’s actually a dumb shot” plus confirmation from someone else.
In Quebec a good coach charges around 150 per hour. So a 9 holes would cost 300cad. But please make sure the course you choose is not crowded as it's not fun to be pressured by followers when coach has to explain more than usual. Learning is worth it. Thanks Matt.
Love your comment about trying to make putts. Over the winter I worked on lag putting and improved it significantly. But the downside was I was not converting birdies. After watching your shots saved video I looked at my # of holes to make a birdie and realized I was trying not to 3 putt instead of trying to make the putt. In July it took me 44.2 holes to make a birdie. Through 7 holes in October my YTD rate was 25.3 the highest I had ever been at the end of the year was 21.2 (last 5 years). For the 7 holes in October I was at 32 holes to make a birdie. At that point I was realized what I was doing, plus they aerated the greens and I stopped worrying as much about line and just hit the ball at the hole. I finished October at 14.6 holes to make a birdie. For November I’ve played 11 rounds and am averaging 11 holes to make a birdie. So if you are not trying to make a putt and don’t commit to a line you are not going to make a putt.
@@andrewcanavan3015 I have a WellPutt mat. It has a hole painted on the mat. I put an alignment rod 6” behind the hole. I then put a ball 5’ from hole. The putt must of past the hole but not roll over the rod. If you make you move back 6” and repeat all the way to 10’ the trick is if you miss you start over at 5’. Other drill I do is putt a ball as close to end of mat. Then put tee 6’ from end of mat. Then hit your next putt. It must stop short of 1st putt. Continue until you putt goes past the last putt or comes short of tee. Count how many balls that is. You can do that drill the opposite way and vary the distances. I usually do one drill for 3-6’.
Loved this course, and was really impressive when you first walked in. Came in half an hour earlier to warm up at the driving range (undergoing renovations)
Well well well! Yes for that lesson! Mathew you just got some new perspective on your game. It’s always good to get some new perspective from someone else. ( I usually get mine from you, so thank you!) Loved the new tip on seeing your shot, ball flight and what you want to achieve out of it before you set up behind your ball on the T. Great lesson!
I pay $140 Australian per hour at my local course using a professional studio and Track man. I would expect to pay the same with my green fees added to the price. When I resolve a few more swing issues and can plot my way around the course more accurately I will be getting on course lessons. Love it.
I would pay $69 for the innuendos within course management and club selection. The first tip of if you haven’t hit it in a while just practice a bit first but still hit it ⛳️
Did a playing lesson years ago, was worth it at the time. I need to do another one as well but for different reasons and probably in the spring when it greens up. For a lesson on that course, I am guessing it was in the $225 USD range.
13:35 My advice on voodoo holes is to pretend the centre of the fairway is the green on a long par 3. That way even if you miss slightly you are usually still in the fairway.....usually.
Never had an on course lesson yet, but I would pay $100-150. Also, I would like to have the instructor be more hands on and walk me through the shot recommendations, point out what I do well, and what I need to improve on.
did an on course lesson before its really good to have a different perspective and you will definitely get something out of it. Would pay around 100 for a 9 hole session
I would easily pay $100 for that lesson. I'm sure if you had a major swing issue she would have worked on that But she worked on your mental game and I think the mental game is probably 90% of everything. If I can ever get my butt back for a Thailand golf vacation I am definitely gonna get a lesson or three.
They took statistics on every golfer from Pros right on down and we ALL make more putts of same length to save par than make birdie...we try harder to not lose something than we do to win something, you have to be fierce and a bit greedy to get birdies.
"How much would you pay for this lesson" at the 1:32 mark? I'd pay whatever she charges, but would pay double for a lesson with Michele Low and or Eric. The knowledge and patience they have, is what "we" amateurs need. Thanks for bring us these on course lessons playa.
I’ve taken a couple on course lessons and did not help me that much. I was concentrating so much I didn’t hit a really bad shot. Cost was same as normal lesson.
Punch, or hold-off your irons, and release the driver! It seems like she's pretty young and possibly not overly experienced at on-course playing lessons, but still plenty of good nuggets of wisdom. I'd have expected a few second takes to practice a certain shot here and there.
Although this lesson is way above my level of thinking, I could easily pay $200 for a dedicated qualified teacher who actually cares about what I'm doing out there. I'd save that in lost balls quickly..
I would pay $100 max. It would be totally worth it for me to learn the process and the different shots! I would love to hear the insight of a pro and to learn how to score better! I've always wanted to go to Thailand, looks amazing! Waddalife!
Yeah I bet its hot and humid. Money in the U.S. is worth more in Thailand. I have never taken a lesson so it would be beneficial for me, but I haven't brought myself to spend the money on it bc Ii can only play golf like half the year bc of weather. However I have improved with time, practice, and playing.
Goes to show that consist play is just as important as technique and skill. It reminded me of boxing when you have t fought in a while. Your body needs that training camp to get back into form and I guess in golf your body will need those few rounds before you get back to your normal self 😅
I’d probably buy her a new pack of gum as payment for the lesson… I half expected her to start talking on her cell phone to one of her bff’s after the first hole. BFF: You busy girlfriend? Pro: nah it’s ok I’m not busy, just watching some duffer hack it all over the planet. BFF: how much are you charging him? Pro: Nothing. I don’t think I can help him so it wouldn’t be fair to charge him… maybe a pack of gum? 😂
I’m confused… you say these are your own clubs. Where have they come from? I thought you got off the train with just a putter under your arm (not the same one you were playing with)?
I just don’t understand how your voice can so different from when you talk to the camera vs when you do a voice over. Do you purposely change the sound of your voice?
These videos make me want to get out and play even though I’m quite horrendous 😂 this golf lesson is probably worth at least $150, but I can’t afford that 😅
I wouldn’t want to pay for a lesson like this, since I feel like she wasn’t really giving any input a caddy couldn’t give you. If I had to pay I would say 50$ would be a more than fair price.
First hole shows it is a game of misses. Half-top/slice off the drive, thin second, pulls the right club and plays the safe shot…. GIR with a shot at bird babay!
Pretty obvious you were taking her advice with a grain of salt. But, you were wise and gracious to go ahead and take her advice (since you were paying for it) and try some new things. I don't think she realized you are a playa at first, and when she realized it her instruction became less insightful as the round went on. She knew you could teach her a few things about course management. (You were right about the draw on hole 6. Just because the hole is a dogleg right doesn't mean a fade is the best shot.)
I have no idea what anything costs in Thailand, so it's hard to put a price on a lesson, but to get ideas on course management, I'd think $50 in the US would be fair. It doesn't hurt that your coach is beautiful.
$0 Let me tell you why (and all pro’s seem to do this)… they teach the game from the perspective of a pro. Comments like “it’s a long par 4 so we will hit driver” is an example. No, it’s a long par 4 so the pro should hit driver. Also, pro’s want to teach as if they want to turn a 30hc into a scratch golfer. Rather than thinking “how can I get this guy from shooting over 100 to playing bogey golf”. That should be the aim of the pro. But sadly, it’s not.
For those saying playing lessons are not needed for worse players, consider this,

Host I got a hole in 1 on a 200yard hole the caddie picked 4 iron. I've never had a lesson
This channel gave me one goal in my life. Going to thailand, miss a put, and say 'Caddie no goooooooood', 'No birdie ! No tip!'

Agreed!
You don’t miss puts pal. You’re that guy.
Don't forget finding a feather to plant!
Try saying that to a caddie in a white country

Very cool and interesting, her shot vision versus yours. Thanks for sharing Matty!
I paid $40 ($60 with the tip) for a nine hole lesson in North Carolina. Your lesson was definitely worth more than $60!
To be honest it was more of a lesson about the course, which can be very helpful when you are new to the course. Nice company for an afternoon though

Let me tell you why (and all pro’s seem to do this)… they teach the game from the perspective of a pro.
That’s why i made this channel playa!
