    Hey Shan i have never had a problem with Grab or Bolt from the hotel to the course. I have played quite a lot of golf in Bangkok and I can get fares for usually between 250 and 400 baht from Sukhumvit or Silom depending where I am staying. I have only had an issue twice of getting the Grab back from the course, Lam Luk Ka was one, I can't remember the other but I just remember waiting a bit. Good info, and spot on with caddies, be nice and don't be creepy with young ones.

    Great videos and insight into golf in Thailand. I've played most of the courses in your videos several times. Cost wise, you probably played in the most expensive areas (tourist) Phuket, Hua Hin, Bangkok. There are many other courses in Thailand, which are every bit as good and a lot cheaper. However, to access these areas, you would need to rent a car and stay away from the cities. When I started playing golf in Thailand I used have to print maps and routes in advance, long before before the smartphone and google maps ! I even got used to driving in Bangkok. Nowadays, with gps and google maps it's a lot easier (provided to look at the cars around you and not the phone !). It really depends on what you want to do after golf. If you're travelling with your boyfriend, the whole country is great, food is great and a car is ideal. However, as was the case with me sometimes, I had to keep a group of up to 30 middle aged, whining, beer guzzling, wannabe golfers entertained. That's when it becomes costly and restrictive ! Next time rent a car and get away from the tourist areas - I might even drive you !

    Well presented honest review . You basically outlined the most you are ging to pay ( outrageously priced courses aside) so people can decide whether or not they would find value in golfing in Thailand . If $250 cdn for one round doesn't phase you then with a little research you can be pleasantly surprised by greatly reducing that cost through a unique feature that Thailand has "the golf bar/association " . Pattaya , Huan Hin and Kanchanaburi are places that I have personal knowledge of welcoming golf bars that will drive you to the course for 300 baht a person , arrange playing partners if needed , often get a reduced green fee and get you back to the bar for that wonderful first ice cold beer .
    It is still high season in Pattaya but the prices will be dropping soon . Right now an expensive course like Phoenix cost 2200 baht (green fee, caddie fee , buggy all included) so you are left with 400 baht caddy tip , 300 baht transportation and if the bar plays compettion then a 250 baht comp fee . So 3150 baht all in or $125 cdn .
    For those interested in going to Thailand just google Thailand golf and be amazed at the options .

    The main thing I'd add is in regard to transport. Check how far the course is from the BTS line, then het a taxi. In Bangkok if you use a taxi and the driver is polite and friendly, ask them fot a quote for a trip to the course. Make it clear to pay a little extra, and pay the tolls, and not use the meter. Sometimes the driver will offer a rediculous quote, but in my experience this isn't the norm. When I've played courses in Chonburi, which is close to Pattaya the price has been reasonable. As there are some excellent courses in that area staying in Pattaya is an option, if you can put up with the seedy side.
    Another excellent area for golf in Thailand is Hua Hin. Its accessible from Bangkok by train. Its much more laid back, its by the coast and has some great courses, and accomadation is plentiful and reasonably priced.
    The standard of most of the courses are excellent, there's even one thats a copy of Augusta National. There's also a few that resemble an ocean with 18 islands, so be prepared to lose plenty of balls if you choose one of those. Most of all enjoy Thailand😊

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  7 місяців тому

    Ive played in Bangkok before, one of the course employs aunties as caddies. They're the sweetest. Probably too sweet - they took photos of us put in on their facebook and insist to share their snacks around the course. Felt like golfing with your mom. For me one thing is we normally use metric measurement from where I used to, just ask them if its yards to meters and some of the caddies not sure on meters conversion so safe is you work out the yardage on yr own based on their advice. The caddies are well trained on golf so they are professional caddies.

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  Рік тому +2

      There are a couple courses where the caddies seemed a little older, but yes, very friendly and knowledgeable about golf. The yards to meters conversation can be a bit confusing 😂 Here in Canada we use "yards" so it wasn't an issue for us.

    If you don't mind roughing it there are many golf societies (bars) in Pattaya that organise golf trips. They provide transport for B300 per person. This might be sharing in a van or one of the long-standing members who is driving there. Most courses are B1000 with the top one's going to B3000 and more. Golf carts are B600 with caddie tips from B300 to B400-500 for the best courses.

    If you are a solo traveller who wants to experience golf in Thailand, there are many sports bars in Pattaya who organise and facilitate golf and it includes transport via mini buses with a shared cost..They get good deals and promotions with the many courses they take groups to..But your still looking at appropriately 5000 Thai baht for Green fees, Golf cart Caddy fees Caddy tip and transport..
    But it's a fantastic experience if your a golf lover...ps..if you need to hire clubs, add at least another 1000 baht( thru the sport bar, not the golf club)

    Played three courses in Chiang Mai including Alpine. As a 15 index, that one was very challenging. Alpine was as expensive as back home. Caddies were a bargain at 400 baht and I gave an extra tip of 200 for every birdie. If you don’t like holes where you carry the water hazards, you won’t like golf there. I played one course with water in play on all 18 holes. Overall, I had an awesome time on the golf courses there.

Hua Hin is much the same with the quality and proximity of the courses. Hopefully, they bring back the high-speed ferry between Hua Hin and Pattaya, which makes it that much easier to enjoy both. Oddly enough, golf in Thailand is good value for holidays but expensive for residents, because there are no real golf clubs, they are all commercial companies milking golf players. Many courses peddle "memberships" (charged yearly), but what you get is a discount (about 50 to 60%) on the green fee and still have to pay the mandatory caddie (caddie fee about 300-450 baht /round and mandatory tip about 300-500 baht minimum) and sometimes the mandatory cart (500 to 850 baht/round). That quickly adds up, one must have quite deep pockets to play 3 times a week on a standard course.
    Compared to Europe where you pay between 1000 to 1500 EUR on rural courses (of normal quality) for a yearly membership with no additional costs, golf in Thailand is ten times more expensive.

  • @vincentgolfeur2549
    @vincentgolfeur2549 Рік тому +1

    Of course, the costs are depending on the course you are playing but your average prices for green fees are way too high...green+caddie+card are mostly around 2000 baht during the high season (December to March) and 1200 to 1500 during the low season (rainy season) except on private expensive courses...I am playing around Bangkok twice a week over the last 5 years and played more than 40 different courses, never spent 2000 per round including tip for caddie (400 baht are usual in most of the courses). Huahin, Pattaya and Pukhet have some very expensive courses but you can really avoid those places and enjoy championship courses for the prices I indicated above.

    Sounds like expensive golf considering you have to add flights and accommodate, plus transport.
    I think I'll invest in a round at a quality course closer to home.
    Thank you for the info.

    Now that I am retired and no longer having that great income... I cry whenever I think about how much money I threw away foolishly. Experiences are the essence of life but throwing money away will bite you in the butt later on.

    Golfing in Thailand and Indonesia is never cheap and courses maintenance are not that up to speed. Malaysia had many good golf courses for all player handicapped and the best part is it is very affordable. The most value for money in south east Asia. Vietnam golf courses are slightly better and cheaper than Thailand and Indonesia. Cambodia there are high end golf courses as well as fairly moderate price courses. Myanmar there are only 2 international standard golf courses all located around the capital Yangon. They are affordable. Overall the most value for money and golf courses conditions is still Malaysia.

    Hi, No You find a Sportsbar that have Golf tours. You get half the price. So forget online booking. I paid around 2000-2500 Tbh all included....And Then You vent to the most expensive area to play golf in, Phuket and Bangkok. Really don't know why people go to Phuket for golf. Hua Hin or Pattaya is much better . In Hua Hin You got Black Mountain that is ranked nr 56 in the World.

      Online booking is often the first thing we think about. Phuket does have beautiful golf courses and beaches, but in terms of cost it's higher than the rest of Thailand haha

      You go off course rankings? having actually played a lot of courses in Thailand. Thai country club, Blue Canyon, Red Mountain and Stonehill are all better courses than Black Mountain. For a challenge Red Mountain is hard to beat.

    Blaming the caddie is usually a joke. No one actually thinks it's the caddie's fault.

    how hot does it get there? I always see the caddies fully covered in pants and long sleeves plus mask so the sun must be brutal

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  Рік тому

      It gets really hot.. like high 30s to low 40s in the afternoon. The caddies wear long sleeves to prevent from tanning and to protect themselves from sun exposure. I guess they're used to it? 😂 It is a trend all across Asia, they are out every day and it's also beauty standards to not be tanned.

    That's really lousy that people will miss a shot and blame the caddy. The best thing about golf is the complete personal accountability. Noone can get in your way, make noise or mess up your shot, it's all you. I can accept the occasional rage, but blaming others for your bad shots is low behavior.

      We've tried Grab quite a few times (both pre-schedule and ordering on the spot). They always cancel or no one accepts...
      Taxis you have to negotiate, but are more likely to accept the ride if you pay enough

    Golf in Asia is stupidly expensive. They cater for the rich Koreans which is still cheaper for them.

      This is true!
      However, if someone was "traveling" for golf, Thailand is overall pretty affordable given that your hotel and food are going to be much cheaper than a lot of the world. It is definitely still expensive for sure!

    Quick answer to the question, How expensive is golf in Thailand? Too expensive. I am now to the point that I do not want to hassle with it anymore. I lived in Southern Cal. for 40+ years and know what expensive golf is. If you plan to go. Bring a box or 2 of your favorite balls in your bags. Thai golf ball options are horrendous. Lots of used balls for sale. That Mall in Bangkok is Very expensive, bring your wallet. It's too bad But golf in Thailand is not a good option for me. I know you think I am a cheap Charlie. But I can play a 4-5 star course in So Cal for 60 bucks with a cart. Thailand will clip you for $100 a round. Remember, Your wallet is the target. The SMOG is off the charts bad in Bangkok and Pattaya as well. So if you have trouble with that.

    Golf in Thailand is expensive,you have to have caddie,why can't you pull buggy like 100 of other countries, basic pay for Thai is 350 baht why caddies get 300 baht+ for 4 hours work,it rip off,even golf gear in Thailand is over priced to shit house,plus lots knock off club sold as real item, yes golf in Thailand is bit fast,to expensive,it like for elite, game not a working man game.

    Golf has become expensive in thailand. When I started to visit 15 years ago I remember I payed 500 bath for greenfee at a course in my area, today 1250. Caddy fee has been abaut the same 300 b. Above this car 500-700 and around 300 tip... Today a round of golf is about 2500bath. About the same as in sweden.

      Golf in Thailand is getting more and more popular! Unfortunately that means prices will keep going up... Thanks for sharing! It's almost unbelievable how much more affordable it was 15 years ago haha
